Amy Johnson
Amy Johnson (born 1 July 1903, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, Eng.— vanished 5 January 1941, over the Thames estuary), was a pioneering female pilot who came to prominence through her endeavour to set a record for a solo flight from London to Darwin, Australia. Flying solo or with her husband, Jim Mollison, she set many long-distance records during the 1930s. She flew in the Second World War as a part of the Air Transport Auxiliary and died during a ferry flight.
