
Lawrence MacAulay
Lawrence A. MacAulay (born September 9, 1946) is a Canadian politician, who has represented the riding of Cardigan, Prince Edward Island in the House of Commons since 1988. On November 4, 2015, he was appointed the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food by Justin Trudeau. On March 1st, 2019, Prime Minister Trudeau shuffled his cabinet, appointing Mr. MacAulay Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence. As a senior cabinet minister, MacAulay is second in the order of succession, after Trudeau and Ralph Goodale.Born in St. Peters Bay, Prince Edward Island, MacAulay is a current member of the Liberal Party of Canada in the House of Commons of Canada. He has represented the riding of Cardigan, Prince Edward Island since 1988. He is the former Minister of Labour, Solicitor General of Canada, Secretary of State (Veterans) and Secretary of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). He was also the Official Opposition Critic for Seniors. On 20 March 2014, MacAulay became the longest-serving MP in the history of Prince Edward Island, surpassing the record previously set by Angus MacLean.MacAulay lives on PEI with his wife, Frances.
