Angela HammondAngela Hammond was four months pregnant when she was abducted on April 4, 1991. She spoke to her fiancé, Rob Shafer, using a telephone booth outside the Food Barn Store in Clinton, MO. She told Shafer about a "filthy, bearded man" who left his truck with a flashlight just before Rob heard her scream and the line cut.
He ran to the phone booth. On his way, he saw a truck and heard Angela scream his name. He started chasing the pickup truck right away, but a transmission problem stopped him from going more than a couple of miles. Shafer gave a detailed description of the vehicle he chased, but police never found the man or his truck.
Authorities first questioned Shafer as a suspect in the disappearance. A polygraph test cleared him. Several unconfirmed sightings of Angela Hammond have occurred over the years, but the case stays open.
