Imagine Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise before their Hollywood fame. Like us, they navigated awkward school years, even while pursuing acting. Who was the cool kid, the class clown, or the loner? Internet users shared unverified stories about what these actors were like in school. Take these tales with a grain of salt and remember: people change. We wouldn't want to be judged solely on a childhood memory.

From Redditor u/davedoug3:
I share a town with Jason Momoa and attended the same high school. Though I don't know him, he visits the school and teachers, including the vice principal, often. They have many happy photos with him. A long-standing school breakfast spot features him; the staff loves him, and there is a wall of his photos with the staff over many years. Jason seems very lovable, outgoing, and loyal.

From a DeuxMoi reader:
My aunt went to high school with Keanu Reeves. He possessed talent and was quiet. He asked her out; she said no. That was a big regret!

From a DeuxMoi reader:
I went to high school with Zac Efron. He took many AP classes and was friends with everyone.

From Redditor u/ElectronicEcho6756:
I grew up in the same town Nick Offerman grew up in. I have seen him a couple of times here for book signings. He visited the high school and their band because he played the saxophone, just like Duke Silver. He appeared on Stephen Colbert once, doing a bit about one of our local restaurants. His family is deeply involved in the community. His dad is the village president. He taught here, and his mom worked as a nurse at the hospital. His sister is an executive director at the library. They are a very nice family and good people.

From Redditor u/Ok_Detective5690:
I attended high school with Tom Hanks. Our senior class had about 400 students, and everyone loved Tom. He was funny, sweet, and kind without being cheesy. Years later, he and I (with our kids) met at a dinosaur exhibit. We waved and exchanged confused looks, like saying, ‘We’re grown-ups with little humans.’ It was a fun moment that ended quickly, but Tom was gracious and kind to everyone, just like he always is.

From a DeuxMoi reader:
I went to high school with Pedro Pascal, who used to go by Peter Balmaceda. He was a likable, nice theater kid!
119 - 7

From Redditor u/Perfect_Razzmatazz:
My dad went to high school with Dan Castellaneta (voice of Homer Simpson). My dad was a year ahead, and they ran track together. My dad says he was very nice but painfully shy and quiet. He was not the expected star of the graduating class, so his sudden fame surprised everyone (a good surprise!).
112 - 8

From Redditor u/sleepless-sleuth:
My ex’s mom went to high school with Tom Cruise and they shared many social circles. She said he was unbearable. He came to her house party and tried to get one of her friends to sleep with him. When she turned him down, he said, ‘You’re gonna regret this when I’m famous some day.’ She never regretted it.
From a former Redditor:
My dad briefly dated a girl Tom Cruise took to prom. She told my dad Cruise sent a dance instructor to her house first to teach her to dance. (Consider this with caution regarding the distance.)
From Redditor u/ChanelOberlin17:
My sister's best friend's mom attended high school with Tom Cruise in New Jersey. She said Cruise was poor, weird, and lied often. She stated, "A short, little chubby thing followed me around." She said his teeth were all messed up. When he mentioned acting classes, everyone thought he was lying because he lied constantly. She added, "If I knew he would become famous, I would have been nicer."pauseNah, he was a weirdo then and a weirdo now.

From a DeuxMoi reader:
I went to school with the Wilson brothers. Owen got kicked out for cheating. Luke still sometimes goes to the drama class.

From Redditor u/greatdominions:
In the early 2000s, a teenage dance club at Hollywood and Highland existed for ages 14 to 18. It served no alcohol. I went with friends a few times around age 16. Disney Channel stars and other child celebrities filled the place. People like Hilary Duff and David Gallagher of7th Heaven (who I remember wore a matching tracksuit with his friend), etc. But the best sighting was Shia Lebeouf. This marked the peak of Even StevensHe thought he was Brad Pitt or something. A group of girls approached him to dance. He pretended to sign autographs on an imaginary paper pad and threw them to the crowd. Then he mimed using an old film camera, turning around to look at girls until he found one he liked, then "zoomed" in on her (I specify an old camera because he actually mimed turning a wheel when he zoomed.). I remember when he started getting more mature roles and appeared on the cover of Vanity Faircalling him ‘the next Tom Hanks.’ That is totally right. It took a few years, but the real jerk finally showed up to the public.
92 - 11

From a DeuxMoi reader:
Jason Segel was very friendly in high school. He played varsity basketball. He won a slam dunk contest called ‘Dr. Dunk.’
85 - 12

From Redditor u/LieutenantLimes:
My dad went to high school with the voice of Patrick Star. He was actually a smart, popular, nice guy. He was also naturally goofy, as you would expect.
83 - 13

From Redditor u/DanScnheider:
My friend grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky, Johnny Depp’s hometown. He said no one really likes him there because he does not acknowledge them or claim to be from there.
52 - 14

From a DeuxMoi reader:
My dad went to high school with Alec Baldwin. He lost a bet and had to audition for the school play. He got the part, which led him to become an actor.
48 - 15

From Redditor u/captyoyogirl:
He attended the same high school as Ian Somerhalder. Everyone said he was very relaxed, and no one believed him when he claimed to have a modeling contract.
47 - 16

From Redditor u/funkyacidtrip:
James Franco was the professor for an English class at UCLA, taught by my high school Spanish teacher. She facetimed him during class one day; that was the coolest thing ever. He is super smart and really down to earth.
45 - 17

From Redditor u/JeepersGypsy:
My older sister attended school with Brad Pitt. He asked her out once, and she agreed to go. The night before their date, her ex called, they made up, and she canceled the date with Brad.
40 - 18

From Redditor u/Visible_Fox3108:
A close friend of mine went to the same high school as Adam DeVine. He graduated before she started, but everyone called him a massive d*ck and extremely obnoxious. People who kept in touch said he became completely insufferable after getting some acting success. He plays douchebags well because he just plays himself.
40 - 19

From Redditor u/leaffeon:
Taylor Lautner went to my high school; he was a year ahead. He was also a weird kid. I recall him rolling on the floor in his video production class.
The Elephant Bar got mobbed by paparazzi in town because he went there with his then-girlfriend Taylor Swift.
37 - 20

From Redditor u/bfields2:
Someone said Ben Stiller has no talent. He talked about this in an interview, and she told students it was her.
36 - 21

From Redditor u/aimino:
I knew someone who did high school theater with Ansel Elgort. She was a lovely lady who never said anything bad about anyone. When she mentioned it and I asked what he was like, she paused, grimaced, and said, ‘He was… fine. He knew he was talented,’ which I took to mean she was not a fan and he had a big ego.
33 - 22

From Redditor u/kcchasez:
My dad went to high school with Jeffery Dean Morgan. Whenever we see him in anything, he always says, "That guy is such a douchebag."
