Who Should Play Anna Delvey?

Who should play Anna Delvey in Netflix's upcoming series about her life? Born in Russia, Delvey attended modest schools and lived in a rural German community. But she told a different story to New York's elite: she was a German heiress with a trust fund, building a startup in the US. This lie worked because it looked real - she tipped with $100 bills, dined at swanky restaurants, wore Balenciaga, and took classes with Dakota Johnson's fitness trainer. Her parties included Macaulay Culkin and Martin Shkreli. However, her deceit caught up with her when she couldn't pay a $30,000 hotel bill, and she sent the staff a case of 1975 Dom Pérignon instead. She left a friend with a $62,000 vacation bill, more than the friend's yearly income. Soon, it became clear her loans would never be paid back, and her hotel bills would always be outstanding. In August 2017, the New York State Supreme Court charged Delvey with larceny and theft of $275,000. She awaited trial at Rikers Island without bail until May 2019, when she was found guilty of four counts of theft of services, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of attempted grand larceny. She was sentenced to four to 12 years, with credit for time served, fined $24,000, and ordered to pay $199,000 in restitution. Delvey has become a millennial icon, representing entitlement and disrespect for institutions to some, but her disregard for the establishment has drawn millennials to her. As Neff Davis, a hotel concierge and close friend, tweeted, 'Screw the higher-ups, dumb hotels, and idiotic banks. Anna is a genius.' Will the Netflix series become one of the greatest crime shows of our generation? And who should play this legendary grifter? Delvey suggests Jennifer Lawrence or Margot Robbie, but other actresses may also be able to capture her bombastic energy, bold brows, strawberry hair, and disregard for the social elite.
