Professional baseball teams have been moving cities since the late 19th century. As early as 1902, teams swapped cities for new stadiums and riches. Many teams that left their original cities have returned, either through expansion or another team adopting their name, colors, and logo. The list includes some of Major League Baseball's biggest teams. The most notorious relocations occurred in 1958, when the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants became the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. The original Baltimore Orioles eventually became the New York Yankees, with a brief stint as the New York Highlanders. Washington D.C. lost its baseball team, the Senators, twice before landing the Nationals in 2005. This list includes baseball teams that have moved cities. In the future, more teams will likely join this list, lured by new stadiums or fleeing rundown ones that no longer make financial sense.
