About this list

What's your favorite non-plot-centric MCU scene? Marvel Studios films are known for their lighthearted quips amidst world-ending action. Luis's complicated story in Ant-Man, Loki (disguised as Odin) watching a comically bad play about his own death in Thor: Ragnarok, and the Avengers trying to lift Mjolnir in Avengers: Age of Ultron are just a few examples. Then there's Tony Stark and Nebula playing finger football in space during Avengers: Endgame's opening. Here are the MCU scenes that will make you laugh, with less focus on heroics and more on humor.

The Party Scene ('Avengers: Age of Ultron')

Say what you will about Avengers: Age of Ultron.Avengers: Age of UltronUltron. The film has a bloated runtime, yet you struggle to get enough of it.The party sceneThe after party shows the Avengers trying to lift Mjolnir. This moment sticks in memory as one of the best MCU scenes. It humanizes these larger-than-life characters. Try lifting Mjolnir if you had the chance.

This film series lets favorite superheroes rest. Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye has drum sticks in a scene. Renner's musical tastes matter more than Clint Barton here. Steve Rogers seems dreamy.Dreamy Steve Rogers couldactually lift Mjolnir if he tried hard enough.

All Of Luis's Detailed Stories (The 'Ant-Man' Films)

"Breathe. Focus. Keep it simple." Scott Lang tells Luis this before his first rapid-fire, detailed story.Ant-Man.How does it go? Did Luis keep it simple? Would we talk about it if he hadn't? If there is a scene-stealer in Ant-Man films, it is Michael Peña's Luis.Ant-Man.Michael Peña's Luis is a must-watch. Everyone watches a Disney+ MCU show about him.

Luis's hyperactive storytelling style is one of his best traits. He speaks like this:Ant-Man.This line appears in Ant-Man.This line appears in Ant-Man and the Wasp.He gets truth serum. He summarizes Scott and Hope's entire relationship in thirty seconds. That scene is the best. Luis is the best. More Luis!

Steve Rogers Embarrassing Sam Wilson During A Run ('Captain America: The Winter Soldier')

The opening of.Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The opening of Captain America: The Winter Soldier reintroduces Marvel's star-spangled man with a plan. It also gives MCU fans their first look at Sam Wilson. The two Captain Americas race in downtown Washington, DC. Steve Rogers beats Sam easily. He has the Super-Soldier Serum! It is not a fair fight!

The pair share a natural bond. "On your left" becomes a signature line. That line gets a callback after the Hulk snaps everyone back in Avengers: Endgame.Avengers: Endgame. After getting to know each other, Cap finds a new best friend. We get a new favorite sidekick until he becomes Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Thor Versus Hulk In The Grand Arena ('Thor: Ragnarok')

"We know each other! He's a friend from work!"This moment ended the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok back in 2017.Back in 2017, Marvel fans knew the God of Thunder offered something different this time around. The teaser trailerLed Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" plays straight, promising another action romp through Asgard. Taika Waititi directing and Jeff Goldblum playing the Grandmaster hinted at a lighter tone, but this scene confirmed that for viewers.

The moment plays well in the movie, just like in the trailer. We see Loki's real reaction to learning the Hulk is on Sakaar ("I have to get off this planet"), and Thor tries to catch up on what happened since.Avengers: Age of UltronThis is also pretty great. Hulk just wants to beat Thor up anyway, so a fight starts. But we always have Thor's excited reaction to keep us warm.

Dr. Strange Messes With Thor And Loki At The Sanctum Sanctorum ('Thor: Ragnarok')

See Doctor Strange wear his orange gloves. See him serve Thor a self-refilling beer mug. See Loki fall through a portal for thirty minutes. Benedict Cumberbatch has a short cameo in.Thor: RagnarokThis scene makes the MCU feel more real. A common complaint about the MCU is that heroes rarely appear in each other's movies. Why didn't Iron Man show up inCaptain America: The Winter SoldierFor instance? This scene feels real and is hilarious.

If you don't laugh when Thor gets disoriented teleporting around the Sanctum Sanctorum, your sense of humor is off. Did the moviehaveto have Doctor Strange lead Thor and Loki to Odin on Earth? No, but aren't we all better off for it?

The Fake Play On Asgard ('Thor: Ragnarok')

Thor: RagnarokThis film first figured out the God of Thunder. Gone were the fake Shakespeare theatrics; the tone became lighthearted and included some touching moments. Taika Waititi's vision for the character worked.Thor: RagnarokThis film became a box-office hit and made the character a fan favorite. The movie also subtly mocks the series' prior entry.Thor: The Dark WorldThis includes the fake play scene.

After the opening, where Thor takes the crown of Surtur, the Asgardian hero returns to Asgard. He finds his father Odin watching an amateur play about Loki's supposed death inThor: The Dark WorldThis is Loki watching a stage performance. The show makes the God of Mischief look more heroic than he is. Casting Matt Damon, Sam Neill, and Chris Hemsworth's brother Luke as Loki, Odin, and Thor was a genius move. It ranks as one of the funniest and most self-aware scenes in the MCU.

Thor Eats An American Diner Breakfast Like A Viking ('Thor')

Thormay not be the best MCU effort in Phase One, but it does have some fantastic moments. And the top of the pile has to be Thor's first American breakfast. Because, like all Asgardians, Thor doesn't know the ways of Earth - and especially the ways of America. He delights in revels and, being the future king of Asgard, generally gets what he wants without any challenge at all. This makes for some solid "fish out of water" comedy.

When the God of Thunder joins Jane, Darcy, and Erik for a good, old-fashioned diner breakfast, he is very much bemused by the taste of coffee. "This drink, I like it," he exclaims. "Another!" And like he's smashing down beers in the halls of Valhalla, Thor smashes his coffee mug on the ground. When Jane asks him what that was all about, he responds, "It was delicious. I want another." And now we want to treat all coffee mugs in this manner, forever.

The 'Star-Spangled Man' Montage ('Captain America: The First Avenger')

As Scott Lang once put it so eloquently, Steve Rogers has "America's A**," and when you've got a rump like that, you don't just waste your days away sitting around on it. After enhancing Steve with the Super-Soldier Serum, you'd figure the government would want to put him into the field to kick some Nazi butt. Alas, instead he becomes the "Star-Spangled Man With A Plan" who tours the country with a cadre of dancing girls in order to sell war bonds. It's better than sitting at home and doing nothing, right?

We get to see Steve kiss babies, give speeches, and punch out Hitler on stage. Captain America also gets his own comic book and some classic, black-and-white film reels to go with them. The whole thing ends with Steve lifting three women atop a motorcycle above his head on stage. Why? Well, why not? Can you lift a motorcycle above your head? Didn't think so.

Shuri Showing T'Challa All Of His New Toys ('Black Panther')

While the entirety of Black Pantheris pretty great, we have a soft spot in our hearts for this scene that reminds us of every Q/007 back-and-forth ever put to film in the James Bond series. T'Challa gets communication devices. T'Challa gets Remote Access Kimoyo Beads. T'Challa gets fully automated, sound-absorbing shoes. T'Challa gets a whole new Black Panther suit. All in all, a pretty good day at the lab for the Wakandan hero.

But it's the back-and-forth between T'Challa and Shuri that makes this scene special. These two feel like actual siblings. The moment where she looks at T'Challa's sandals and shouts, "What are those!" is pure comedy. And when she tricks him into getting thrown on his butt by his new Black Panther suit? Superhero comedy gold.

Thor And Star-Lord's Battle Of Alpha Male Egos ('Avengers: Infinity War')

Outside of Tony Stark and Stephen Strange, the two biggest egos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have to be Thor and Peter Quill. Well, as far as heroes go. Supervillains are another conversation entirely, of course. But in the realm of heroes, the God of Thunder and Star-Lord are pretty high up there. So, when the two butt heads as Avengers: Infinity Warswings into full gear, fans are in for a show.

Chris Pratt's Star-Lord feels self-conscious seeing Chris Hemsworth at his best. Drax gives him his honest take: "He is not a dude. You're a dude. This... this is a man. A handsome, muscular man."

Quill tries to sound more manly when Thor is around by deepening his voice during the pissing contest. It fails.

The 'Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' Montage ('Spider-Man: Homecoming')

After the events ofCaptain America: Civil War, Peter Parker wants to show he is ready for the superhero life inSpider-Man: HomecomingTony Stark and Happy Hogan want Peter to stay a "friendly neighborhood Spider-Man" and act like a kid while he learns. This causes a montage early in the movie where Pete explores NYC and helps people.

We see a backflip. He gives directions. He stops a bike robbery. He rides on a train. He stops a man from stealing his car because he thinks the man is stealing it. The Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop" plays, and things bump. This is the classic Spider-Man from the comics brought to life. We like it.

    The Shawarma Scene ('The Avengers')

Have you ever had a workday that just won't end? A day where no matter how hard you fight, it never feels enough? The Avengers had one of those days in New York City during the climax of their 2012 movie. They used everything to stop Loki and the Chitauri and save all of humanity from the God of Mischief.

After a day like that, you want to relax and eat. Tony Stark craves shawarma after crashing back to Earth from a wormhole trip through space. The rest of the Avengers join him to try the food in the post-credits scene ofThe Avengers. Six friends eat after a tough day.

The Therapy Scene With Mantis ('Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2')

We met Mantis before this scene inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but this moment shows fans what this character is about. After she puts Ego to sleep, Mantis hangs out with our favorite space weirdos. This is expected with theGuardians films, laughter happens.

Using her empathic power, Mantis shows Peter Quill loves Gamora. Quill didnotwant anyone to know that and gets embarrassed his secret is shared. Drax finds it funny and laughs, as only he can. Mantis uses her empathic skills to feel Drax's humor and starts chuckling. Mantis then puts Drax to sleep with a big thud. Thanks, James Gunn, for being awesome.

Tony And Nebula Play Finger Football ('Avengers: Endgame')

Avengers: EndgameThis dark movie shows the Marvel Cinematic Universe learning to handle losing half of all existence when Thanos wipes it out at the end ofInfinity War.This is a Marvel Studios movie. That means quips matter. The MCU needs jokes and levity.

The opening ofAvengers: Endgame.Nebula, played by Karen Gillan, gets a look at being human when Tony Stark introduces her to finger football. This is an intimate moment between two characters whose worlds collided at the end ofInfinity War.If you cannot enjoy two Marvel characters playing finger football, you take your superhero movies too seriously.

Thor Gets Welcomed To Sakaar ('Thor: Ragnarok')

Thor is one of the strongest beings on screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you can match the Hulk, you are a mighty hero. When a Bifrost accident crashes him on Sakaar, he should handle whatever happens.

First, scrappers trap him. Then, Valkyrie captures and shocks him. Finally, the Grandmaster treats him to the wonder of "Pure Imagination" fromWilly Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.Thor's meeting Jeff Goldblum's weirdo is a standout moment. He also sees Sakaar's flesh-melting justice system. It is quite nice.

Justin Hammer Explaining His Weaponry ('Iron Man 2')

Justin Hammer described his most advanced weapon here.

If something were smarter, it would write a book. A book that would makeUlysses.look like it was written in crayon. It reads it to you. This is my Eiffel Tower. This is my Rachmaninoff's Third. MyPieta. This is elegant. It is bafflingly beautiful. It can reduce any standing structure to zero. I call it "The Ex-Wife."

We like Sam Rockwell. We like Justin Hammer. We want him back for Disney+'sArmor Wars.series.
