Atlas Comics first published Journey into Mystery. Marvel Comics took over later. This started as a horror comics anthology. Late in the 1950s, it shifted to giant-monster and science fiction stories. Issue #83 began the superhero feature, "The Mighty Thor." Stan Lee and Larry Lieber wrote it. Jack Kirby drew it. The story drew from the Norse thunder god mythology. Issue #126 renamed the series for its superhero star. Three revivals followed: a horror anthology in the 1970s, and in the 1990s and 2010s.
