You're watching a movie, enjoying it, when someone points out a glaring plot hole years later. It might be faulty physics in a sci-fi film or a main character overlooking something to keep the plot moving. These holes don't ruin the experience, but they change how you view the movie next time. Here are some plot holes we found in old favorites and new releases from the past year. Vote up the ones that bother you most - but beware, major spoilers ahead.

Top Gun: MaverickSet 30 years after the originalTop Gun, the sequel shows Maverick (Tom Cruise) catching up as he pushes his flight career and teaches a new group of pilots.
Plot Hole: Neil DeGrasse Tyson explained how a key film scene could not happen in real life. Early in the movie, Maverick flies a prototype Darkstar hypersonic jet. When Maverick pushes the jet past Mach 10, the aircraft breaks apart, forcing Maverick to eject.
Tyson says ejecting from an aircraft at this speed wouldliterally rip a human being apart:
At that air speed, his body would splatter like a chainmail glove hitting a worm. Maverick ejected at Mach 10.5, traveling 7,000 mph, giving him 400 million joules of kinetic energy—the explosive power of 100 kg of TNT. Human bodies are not built to survive that.
So, no. Maverick does not leave this. He will die. Very dead.

Gravity: Astronauts Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) become stranded in space after their shuttle has an accident.
Plot Hole: The physicists enjoyed this movie. There arecountless problems with the sciencethe movie uses to explain the astronauts' movements. Actual astronaut Michael Massimino brought one issue to light.
In the movie, the astronaut's plan is to use their small Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) to reach safety on the International Space Station, 900 miles away.
The Hubble and the space station orbit vastly different places. Moving between them demands huge energy; even space shuttles lack the fuel. The telescope sits 353 miles up, near the Equator. The space station is about 100 miles lower, orbiting far north over Russia.
Having astronauts Matt Kowalski (Mr. Clooney) and Ryan Stone (Ms. Bullock) travel to the space station is like a pirate swimming from the Caribbean to London.

Plot: Our first meeting with Michael Myers happens on Halloween. He escapes a mental institution and seeks to cause chaos in Haddonfield.
Plot Hole: Many plot holes involve the authoritiesnot noticing Myers's stolen car. They know Myers stole a nurse's station wagon, but the car passes Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) in the middle of the day, and he misses it. Another time, it parks just feet away, and Loomis still fails to see it.
The bigger plot hole is how Myers learned to drive. The film states he was institutionalized at age six, then went 15 years without speaking. How did he learn to drive?
540 - 7

Plot: On Christmas Eve, businessman Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) checks his roof for noise, scaring Santa Claus and making him fall. Scott then takes over as Santa.
Plot Hole: This seems like a major plot hole in Christmas movies with a real Santa. How do the parents not know Santa is real? Where do they get the gifts under the tree?
420 - 8

Plot: A former police officer (Will Smith) joins a secret group that watches alien movements.

409 - 9

Plot: A 1950s housewife (Florence Pugh) leads a seemingly perfect life, but she discovers her life might not be that.
Plot HoleSerious questions exist about the simulation versus real life in the plot. If Alice Chambers (Pugh) was a real surgeon, co-workers and family would search for her. If she is trapped in bed during the simulation, how does she avoid severe malnutrition or infection (her husband does the bare minimum to care for her)? What caused the crashed airplane? Were the yolk-less eggs a simulation glitch or Chambers's rebellion against the program? What was the goal of the Victory Project, putting all women in the simulation? The list continues...

Anakin did not know his wife gave birth before her death, and even if he did not plan to return to his home planet, why did Obi-Wan not change Luke's last namechange Luke's last nameHe did this for his sister Leia.
