About this list

In a world of iconic characters, half of whom are villains, memorable prisons are a must. Some comic book prisons are just pit stops between heists, while others drive influential storylines. Designs range from outrageous to based on real prisons. With frequent escape attempts, riots, superpowers, and danger, comic book prisons are especially harsh. You're more likely to see a coffin than complete your sentence. Here are the most nightmarish comic book prisons - vote up the ones where you'd least like to serve time.

    Arkham Asylum

Arkham acts like a prison, not just a mental hospital. It rarely cures anyone; inmates are mostly murderous psychopaths. Frequent breakouts and bad security might attract new inmates. You will likely get a straightjacket. You will only watch the Joker escape again. Batman will probably punch you if you try anything.

    Genosha

Being tracked, beaten, and genetically altered by the evil mutant Magistrates is rough. Mutates—non-mutants with powers—suck because they never gain enough fan appeal for the X-Men. It is totally racist.
