Moviegoers hate it when a plot doesn't make sense. A glaringly obvious solution to the hero's problem might be overlooked, or the setting's location might not be researched enough, making the film implausible. Unintentional plot holes can ruin a movie. Film fans shared some cinematic missed opportunities that stuck with them.

'A Quiet Place'MoviesFrom Redditor u/INeverSaidIWasNice:
In A Quiet PlaceWhy didn't they just close their doors? Doors can be loud. But if you close them very quietly and slowly, they make little noise. Also, why did their youngest son walk last? Shouldn't he have been up front with the mom?
From Redditor u/14thCluelessbird:
That movie had plot holes, so I hated it. Why didn't they just live by the waterfall? Why did these idiots have a baby when monsters roam? Do you mean no one considered using sound against monsters with sensitive hearing? Nature is loud. Twigs fall, leaves rustle, wind blows things, rain falls. If these monsters run from any sound, they run around the forest all day chasing noises. They tire quickly.
The dad yelled for the monster to kill him to save his kids. He should have thrown a rock at the metal pole 20 feet away. He had many ways to make noise; he chose to sacrifice himself. That was dumb. If this apocalypse happens, this family goes first; they are clearly stupid.

'The Little Mermaid'MoviesFrom a former Redditor:
Why didn't Ariel write Eric a message in the sand explaining Ursula stole her voice? She knows how to write; she signed her name on Ursula’s contract. She never thought to grab a quill and parchment to explain in writing?
359 - 3
'Jurassic Park'MoviesFrom Redditor u/manubibi:
The Jurassic Park Scientists failed to foresee that using frog DNA that changes sex based on need would also cause female dinosaurs to change sex due to a lack of males. Alan Grant, an archaeologist, knew this trait in that frog species, but not the biologists who chose that frog for the DNA gaps.
311 - 4

From Redditor u/Loud-Foundation4567:
One Harry PotterA plot hole that has bothered me since childhood is how did Fred and Georgeget the passphrase to the marauder’s map? "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" is very specific.
From Redditor u/Jackthebodyless:
How did [Fred and George] go years with this thing and never notice a man they never heard of was always next to their brother, especially while he sleeps!
310 - 5

From Redditor u/StoolToad9:
The witches are amazed by the present day. They see a paved road and a bus and think, "WTF?! WHAT IS THIS??"
Half an hour later, Bette Midler flies with the good guys and says, "Show me your license and registration!" How could she know that?
From Redditor u/Bezere:
How can you ignore the scene dedicated to the devil giving them powers, but in the second movie, it was another witch?
293 - 6
'Die Hard 2'MoviesFrom Redditor u/StuckInTheUpsideDown:
Die Hard 2Die Hard 2 is the worst. The movie premise involves terrorists taking over a DC airport, stopping plane clearances. They run out of fuel and crash.
When pilots cannot raise the tower, they try another airport channel. If they cannot contact anyone, they will land at another airport without permission instead of crashing.
287 - 7
'Avengers: Infinity War'MoviesFrom Redditor u/pugsnotdrugs:
Why didn't Strange open or close a portal on Thanos’s arm to send the gauntlet somewhere safe, like into a star to kill him? Also, why not make the gauntlet useful to him since it is for the left hand and another cannot be made? This happens when they show a portal cutting off an arm the same size during the first fight in NY after Bruce returns. Why foreshadow it if they never try it?
271 - 8
'Aladdin'MoviesFrom Redditor u/ClownfishSoup:
Aladdin's first wish was “Make me a prince,” not “Make me look like a prince...make me an actual prince.” His friends tell him not to act like a prince, and the bad guy threatens to reveal Aladdin is not a prince. The most powerful being on earth made him a prince, so he is a prince.
From Redditor u/moonbunnychan:
What always bugs me is the wish was to make him a prince, not look like one. To fulfill this, he needed a country and a prince to be of. Royal marriages were business deals anyway; if he wanted to marry Jasmine, the sultan would want to know the political treaty he was making. I only see the genie gave him clothes and a parade.
256 - 9

From Redditor u/Aurii_:
Why did they need to go to the FUTURE to solve a problem and then return to the present, erasing what they did in the future? Why didn't Doc just tell Marty, "Hey, your kid will be in trouble in a few years. Keep an eye out, will ya?"
242 - 10
'Toy Story 2'MoviesFrom Redditor u/Rainquarm:
If Woody is an “old family toy,” which makes sense because he was made in the '50s, why does he not seem to remember being owned by anyone but Andy? I would accept that if it wasn't central to the whole plot that he fears Andy outgrowing him.
184 - 11
'Snowpiercer'MoviesFrom Redditor u/crap_whats_not_taken:
In the movie Snowpiercer, the character Edgar was born on the train. Where did he get an Irish accent from? No one else on the train has one, and even if his mother did, he would have a train accent from talking to the others his whole life.
180 - 12
'Independence Day'MoviesFrom Redditor u/reward72:
At a time when we could barely make a Mac talk to a PC, they claim they figured out how to upload a virus on an alien operating system?
179 - 13
'Cars'MoviesFrom Redditor u/Lowdog00:
How are new cars made in the CarsSeries? Two full movies show car generations, but we only see regular car parts from 2. Do cars have living babies like mammals? Or car eggs? Who builds them? Why do car bugs exist?
Redditor u/hungrylens:
Why are crop dusters there if no one eats food?
160 - 14
'The Polar Express'MoviesRedditor u/TemperatureNo177:
In The Polar Express, the movie clearly shows Santa and the North Pole exist. Therefore, everyone in the world must believe in Santa. The boy’s parents cannot hear the bell because they do not believe. But how did the presents get there, parents?! Why don't you believe when you are not the one putting the presents out?!?
142 - 15
'Predator'MoviesRedditor u/Poorly-Drawn-Beagle:
The Predator sees heat signatures but hunts only when it is hot. Thus, they are functionally blind to most prey in their best environment. How did evolution settle on that?
The movie crew also struggled with this. They had to get the effect they wanted in post-production.
