Pulling off a good plot twist is a tough feat for writers. Anyone can set up a story and flip it on its head, but the challenge lies in doing it without making viewers see it coming or feel cheated. A well-executed plot twist must be organic and intelligent, not cheap or obvious. The following twists hit the mark, which is why fans consider them the best in television.

The end of Season 1 of Game of Thrones is obvious.Game of ThronesGame of Thrones plays out perfectly. Every decision fits the character. One immature, reckless kid throws every Machiavellian plot into chaos. Ned's story remains my favorite part, even with more twists later.

A girl lazy, dishonest, and selfish accidentally enters the good place, a kind of Heaven, after her death. She must learn to be good to stay; otherwise, she goes to the bad place.
The good place was actually designed to be the bad place (purgatory) for all characters, for different reasons and clever ways. I did not see this coming, even pointing out character flaws among the perfect ones. For example, I hated being Chidi (the mentor)'s friend. His need to be good all the time. I never thought that was the point, or that he might be in purgatory because of it.
The writers handled expectations about good, bad, and forgivable flaws very well.

The entire HYDRA infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D., including Ward, who was the main character, was great.

For me, "The Pandorica Opens" from Doctor Who.Doctor Who.
Legend tells of a trickster, wizard, or destroyer. Some monster raged through the universe, impossible to stop, reason with, or fight. It ended in an unbreakable prison called the Pandorica. The Doctor and friends find the real thing and work to figure out what is inside.
I expected the Master, the first Dalek, or something familiar. Near the end, the Pandorica slowly opens; light spills out, and it is empty.
Teleporters flash, doors open, and the room fills with every enemy the Doctor has ever seen. Surprised, he asks how they work together. What terrible thing brought all these enemies together?
It is him. The Pandorica was built to hold the Doctor. He is restrained inside, and the doors slam shut. Episode ends. To be continued. Fantastic cliffhanger, great twist.

It remains the biggest plot twist. I watched this episode thirty times today. Ross can be dumb sometimes! Should Emily have just left? If that happened, I would have said, “Peace, I’m out!”

Breaking Bad's The twist at the end showed Walt poisoned Brock, not Gus, in season 4. This blew my mind.Season 4 revealed Walt poisoned Brock, not Gus. That twist blew my mind.

InWestworldWilliam (Billy) became the man in black. Hints existed. Realizing it first time made everything click.

From Redditoru/Pliknotjumbo:
A flashforward made that moment pivotal. We thought we watched a regular Jack flashback for two hours. Wrong. We found Jack gets off the Island, and Kate too! We don't know when, but they do. Jack is depressed, and a death looms. Who is it? Kate said she had to get back to "him." Who does she mean? Finding out people left the Island changed the story big time. Many thought the show ended with them leaving, but we are in season three. We learn they are already gone.

Marshall's Dad died inHow I Met Your Mother. It happens out of nowhere unless you saw the hidden countdown and Jason Segal's unscripted reaction hits you hard.

Don Draper swapped dog tags with the real Don Draper when he died in Korea.

Twin PeaksLaura's father was the killer. That show had many shocks and twists.

From Redditoru/NotEnoughGun:
Finding out Mr. Robot is Elliot's father was good, though it seemed obvious (they hinted at it). The bigger twist was Darlene being Elliot's sister. It is obvious in hindsight, but I did not see that coming.

From Redditoru/davesgirl2:
Leonard Nimoy's introduction as Belly and the shot of NYC with the Trade Center still standing showed "There’s more than one of everything." Mind blown.
