Cinema's most overused trope is the hero who finds motivation after his wife meets a tragic end. This concept, known as 'fridging' or the 'woman in the refrigerator,' has been around since forever, but wasn't named until Green Lantern Vol. 3 #54 made it literal. Movies often use this trope to drive the hero to save the day. While it doesn't make these movies bad - this list features pretty good films - they do rely on a storytelling trope that's overdue for a refresh.
