Robert Redford Is Too Big To Underuse In 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

Casting Hollywood’s golden boy as the secret antagonist to the MCU’s golden boy inCaptain America: The Winter SoldierThis twist is clever, not obvious. The story borrowed from the political thrillers Redford often starred in. It made sense that the movie star would use his Marvel debut as Alexander Pierce to play against type.

The film proves these assumptions correct. Pierce turns out to be a secret HYDRA leader inside S.H.I.E.L.D. Having a major superstar, a perfect choice for the hero, play the movie's world-controlling villain is too good to miss. Redford’s character gets early plot attention, then fades.
