    Cpl. Dwayne Hicks, 'Alien 3'

Aliens introduced audiences to two beloved characters, Hicks and Newt. Hicks is the space marine who knows Ripley knows what she means, and he follows her orders. Newt is a young girl who survived a Xenomorph-infested planet using only her smarts.Cpl. Dwayne Hicks introduced audiences to Hicks and Newt. Hicks, the space marine, knows Ripley understands. He follows her orders. Newt, a young girl, survived a Xenomorph-infested planet using only her wits.

How do they get rewarded inAlien 3Ripley wakes from hypersleep and finds both characters dead. Seeing survivors die like that disappoints fans and actors.

Carrie Henn played Newt.didn't carebecause she quit acting. However, Michael Biehn (Hicks) would have wanted to send off his tough, grounded space marine with more style than an offscreen death. This type of character death makes fans wary of sequels.

A silver lining in theAlien 3The debacle has this silver lining.Biehn made moneyfor his movie to appear briefly. He earned more than he was paid to act in it.Aliens. He explained:

I called my agent, who called Fox and said, 'You can’t use Michael’s image.' They replied, 'Okay, we’ll get back to you.' David Fincher called, 'Please, can we just... We'd really like to use your character.' I first said, 'F**k you for not putting me in the movie...' Jim [Cameron] was unhappy too, so they dropped the idea. Then they returned, saying, 'We want to use your picture,' and I said, 'Okay, you can use my picture. It will cost you and cost you a lot.'

    Marion Ravenwood, 'Indiana Jones' Franchise

Marion Ravenwood got done so dirty by theIndiana Jonesfranchise that she's wiped out for the two sequels after her introduction. Next time she appears, Indy left her to raise their son, Mutt.Raiders of the Lost ArkMarion shows she fights Nazis and shady archaeologists. She also trades barbs with her former flame.

She does not appear inTemple of Doombecause it is a prequel. Still, she is missing fromLast Crusade, a film where she could have been a good match for Indy. She does not reappear untilKingdom of the Crystal Skull, where Dr. Jones explained he left her before their wedding to avoid hurting her. Ugh.

Karen Allen’s double act with Harrison Ford works well. Seeing her with Ford and Sean Connery inLast Crusade. The character's removal makes little sense except to pull focus back to Indy.

Scott Summers, 'X-Men: The Last Stand'

Scott Summers (AKA Cyclops) appears in a movie where his wife gets the power to destroy people with her mind. That makes Scott Summers a character in '14 Great Movie Characters Done Dirty By Sequels'.The Last StandSummers's story is sad because he sees Jean Grey vanish before seeing the Dark Phoenix in her body. Then, he turns to dust.

For the previous twoX-MenSummers leads the group in these films. He acts like a wet blanket, but that is his nature. He stays calm and thinks about the group's actions while Wolverine gets edgy. This adds stakes toThe Last StandIf Summers lived, he could stop his wife from being taken over by an evil alien. His lack of control makes the film weaker.

The movie is mostly average. Cyclops would not have saved it, but it is odd that the X-Men leader is gone for most of the film.

At the film's end, Adler shows she works for Professor Moriarty, Holmes's main rival. Moriarty poisons her at the start ofA Game of ShadowsWe never see her body. We do not know if she is finished, but taking her out so fast and not deciding her fate is unfair to a character meant to be Holmes's intellectual equal.

Finn, Rose Tico, And Poe Dameron, 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'

Some choices in are baffling. The Rise of SkywalkerThis is the final film in the Star Wars.Star Warssequel trilogy, but reducing screen time and usefulness for some top characters feels baffling. From the start ofThe Force Awakens,Finn and Poe are heading toward great story arcs.

Finn is a former stormtrooper seeking his place in the galaxy. Poe is a hotshot X-wing pilot who acts without thought and ignores his superiors' advice. When Rose appears inThe Last Jedi, she sees her sister die and becomes a major hero of the Resistance.Star WarsStar Wars has always used aclassic narrative structure, so these three storylines should have been easy to finish strong. Each character should have changed and improved, but that did not happen inRise of Skywalker.

In the final film of the trilogy, Rose becomes an extra instead of a hero. She has lines, but others could have spoken them. Seeing a fan favorite and rare person of color in the Star Wars is disappointing.Star Wars universe is disappointing.

Finn is not dropped like Rose in the third film, but the writers seem to have forgotten his role. There is a hint he is Force sensitive, but this never develops. It seems J.J. Abrams focused only on Rey, pushing Finn's story aside.

Poe Dameron, sweet and charming, remains a major attraction in a galaxy far, far away, but he has no role inRise of Skywalkerapart from making jokes. Reports say he was meant to have a much darker storyline. that explored his history as a spice runner, but that idea was dropped before filming began. It is disappointing these three fans were turned into sidekicks and background figures in the final film, but they might find space in the Extended Universe.that looked into his history as a spice runner, but that was jettisoned long before cameras started rolling. Laurie Strode, 'Halloween' Franchise

Laurie Strode is the model final girl, the last character left standing in a slasher movie. Jamie Lee Curtis played Strode throughout theHalloweenseries. Strode has been weakened, killed, brought back, turned into a drunk, and finally redeemed, but that is too much change for a horror icon.

After surviving a scary Halloween night in 1978, Strode spends most ofHalloween IIHalloween II as an invalid while Michael Myers stalks a hospital, killing orderlies. She wakes up at the film's end, screams and cries until Dr. Loomis saves her. By the time ofHalloween IVStrode rolled around. An offscreen accident killed her. This hardly treats the first lady of horror.

Strode returns to life inHalloween H20This film ignoresHalloweens 3-6Strode deals with PTSD and alcoholism. That is understandable. She finds inner strength and stops Michael Myers once and for all. Then, the next film pulls the rug out. Strode just ended a random guy and ends up in a hospital (again). Michael Myers slays Strode in the first 10 minutes. This treatment of the character across the franchise is unbelievable.

Padmé Amidala, 'Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith'

You can die from a broken heart.Star WarsPadmé Amidala stays cool in the prequel series. She remains so even during a boring hour-long date with Anakin Skywalker inAttack of the Clones. She takes over the Galactic Senate as a teen. She tries to govern fairly. Still, some reason sends her like a side character inRevenge of the Sith.

Star WarsFans know Amidala must die to start the original trilogy plot. This is disappointing. But seeing her die giving birth because she is sad about Anakin (or whatever she actually gave in tois a disservice to aPadmé Amidala is a strong female character. She could have used a blaster or a kamikaze mission. Instead, she died from sadness.

    Jane Carter, 'Mission: Impossible' Franchise

Ghost ProtocolThis shows the return of form for theMission: ImpossibleThe series features a back-to-basics mission and a top stunt. The film also has a great team. Benji returns, plus new agents William (Jeremy Renner) and Jane Carter (Paula Patton). Jane gets nuclear launch codes and revenge for Trevor Hanaway's death, but she skips the fifth or sixth film.

There is no excuse for Jane's absence in the next film. There is no reference to her being on another mission; that is strange.Director Christopher McQuarrie statesPatton was "unavailable" for Jane Carter.Rogue Nation.

Alice Hardy, 'Friday the 13th Part 2'

Alice deserved much better after surviving the Camp Crystal Lake massacre. She outwitted Pamela Voorhees and chopped off the woman's head with a machete—not easy. Instead of leaving Alice alone at the start ofFriday the 13th Part 2, an angry Jason Voorhees visits her in the cold open.

The freakiest part is Alice being stalked by Jason through her home. She finds Pamela's head in the fridge and gets an ice pick to her skull. This cold open is scary, but it drags down a character central to the first film.

This ending disappoints Alice. ActressAdrienne King saysAlice Hardy helped transition between the first and second films, even though she got no script for the sequence.

    The Twins, 'The Matrix Revolutions'

The Twins dominated marketing for the sequels toThe Matrix appears in the list of 14 great movie characters done dirty by sequels. The film came out in 2003. Trailers and posters showed the Twins played a major role in both movies. That turned out untrue.

In The Matrix,The Matrix Reloaded,The Twins are rogue programs from the second Matrix version. They have powers like the agents, but they can take on non-corporeal forms, becoming ghosts in the machine. These sci-fi villains are cool, but Morpheus blows them up in the freeway chase in The Matrix Reloaded, ending their run.

It is strange that the audience never sees such powerful beings again. Perhaps Agent Smith finally took them, or maybe too many characters filled the Matrix sequels.Matrixsequels.

After becoming an action hero and ruler in Snow White and the Huntsman,Snow White and the Huntsman, Snow White loses her power inThe Huntsman: Winter Warthe magic mirror starts talking to her. This happens to Snow White in this prequel and sequel combo.

Why let a heroine fall to a magic mirror's power when she was strong in the first film? Kristen Stewart says what she says about the sequel. Early versions of the film weakened Snow White.

Stewart said, she did not want any sequel scripts. Universal stopped sending her scripts, and the film moved ahead without her. Stewart passed a cameo request, which seems smart given the sequel's box office.

Anakin Skywalker, 'Star Wars' Prequel Trilogy

Darth Vader is great. He has an amazing story in the original trilogy.the original trilogyHe acts as a terrifying villain across three films. He force-chokes people, cuts off his son's hand, and torments his daughter to take over the galaxy. He even blows up a planet to prove a point. This behavior makes audiences question his upbringing.

The prequel trilogy answers this question. The three films show an innocent boy on a desert planet becoming a Sith Lord from a distance. However, the films mostly show Anakin Skywalker was very whiny, acting like a little baby. This is Revenge of the Sith.Revenge of the Siththat weakens Anakin the most.

After going dark, Anakin fights Ben Kenobi on Mustafar and gets his lunch eaten. Kenobi kills Anakin with a few lightsaber moves. It is hard to watch, even knowing Anakin gets revenge in the next film. Some all-powerful Jedi he became.
