InThe Godfather Part IIMichael Corleone, the new Mafia don, faces an attack at home while his wife sleeps and his children play. He survives the assassination attempt. Michael suspects his business partner Hyman Roth orchestrated it, aided by a traitorous family member.

Later, partying in Cuba with his brother Fredo, Roth, and Johnny Ola, Michael confirms the plot. Pretending not to know Ola, Fredo foolishly says, “Johnny Ola told me about this place,” which upsets Michael. Covered in New Year's confetti, Michael kisses Fredo and reveals his knowledge. He orders hits on Roth and Ola, sparing Fredo because their mother Carmela is still alive.

Soon, their mother dies, andMichael terminates Fredo.Fredo exchanges information with Roth and Ola for payment on a fishing boat near his compound. The film never shows how much Fredo knew about the plot, and thus how deep the betrayal went.

A flashback shows Fredo in 1941, the only family member who supported Michael joining the US Marines. The movie ends with mobbed-up Michael looking over the lake where his brother's body rests.

Robert regrets his actions and tries to meet Wallace. Robert's father uses this chance to capture Wallace and hand him over to the English. Now that most people know, Wallace is tortured and executed.

Robert becomes Scotland's king. Instead of accepting English rule, he and his army chant Wallace's name and fight at Bannockburn, winning Scotland's freedom.

Having escaped the Imperial fleet inThe Empire Strikes BackHan Solo, Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO seek shelter in the Cloud City run by Han's friend Lando Calrissian. A warm reunion ends with a sudden cold snap:Darth Vader waits in ambush.

Lando apologizes to Han, explaining Vader arrived first and threatened to take over the city if he didn't get his fugitives. Lando later saves himself by helping the crew escape and joins the Rebel Alliance.

Burke's motive is not the worst. Ripley wakes up with the girl and facehuggers.Burke released the facehuggers to impregnate females, making alien smuggling simpler. Burke loses his desired possessions when one kills him.Burke wanted the females to impregnate them for easier alien smuggling. The girls survive, and Burke dies by one of his desired possessions.

This betrayal is almost impossible to forgive compared to others on this list.

Marcus's son Commodus learns this and kills his father. Commodus asks Maximus for loyalty, but Maximus rejects him. Maximus's second-in-command, Quintus, sides with the illegitimate emperor andQuintus finds some redemption when he refuses to help Commodus fight Maximus in the final duel, which leads to the illegitimate emperor's death.Maximus and his family face death. Caleb modifies his security system after being manipulated. This modification lets Ava kill Nathan and escape. Ava does not take Caleb as planned. Instead,she locks himin the isolated facility and takes the helicopter meant for him into civilization.

Luca appears inthe movie.Luca, a land-phobic sea creature, meets Alberto, a land-loving sea creature. Alberto's influence lets Luca break the surface and learn sea creatures become human when exposed to air. They explore the human world, but Luca becomestoofond of humanity for Alberto's liking.

The young protagonist befriends Giulia and wants to join her school. This sparks a fight between the sea friends, leading Alberto to warn Luca about human persecution of their real identities. Alberto shows himself to Giulia, who panics. Instead of calming her or revealing himself, he...Luca yells, “sea monster.”This alerts nearby hunters. They chase a tearful Alberto into the ocean.

This Pixar movie means Alberto survives and the friends make up, but the betrayal still hurts.

On her search for her baby half-brother Toby through...the film'sSarah finds Hoggle, a dwarf hired by the Goblin King who took Toby. Hoggle should mislead Sarah, but he starts liking her, especially after she calls him her only friend in the Labyrinth.

The Goblin King confronts Hoggle about his wavering loyalty. He gives Hoggle a cursed peach for Sarah. Hoggle reluctantly offers the fruit; Sarah bites it and...he runs away with guilt.Sarah then loses her mind and forgets about the quest.

Sarah finally breaks the trance. Hoggle saves Sarah from a giant robot, redeeming himself. Everyone forgives—at least Sarah does. Fans might disagree.

InNight of the Living Dead, Ben and Harry are zombie apocalypse survivors. As alpha males, they disagree on strategy. Ben wants to attack; Harry wants the survivors—his wife and daughter included—to hide in their farmhouse cellar.

Ben gathers survivors and decides to leave, refueling his truck for a riskier escape. Harry, against his better judgment, helps by throwing explosives at zombies from a second-floor window. The truck reaches the gas station, catches fire, and kills Ben's two passengers. Ben runs back to the house with a horde of zombies, but Harry denies him entry.

Ben kicks the door open and hits Harry. The power cuts out. Instead of stopping the zombies, Harry holds Ben at gunpoint and orders his wife into the cellar. Ben wrestles the gun from Harry and shoots him, turning the sensible survivor into food for...his undead daughter.

This is a double backstab. It shocks but makes sense given Ben's bad actions.

After talking to Carissa, Drea learns Eleanor used to go by Nora, and that it washer, not Carissa, who started the summer camp rumor. When confronted, Eleanor admits she played Drea the whole time; it was an elaborate plan to get revenge on Drea.
