About this list

The Stanley Cup is the most difficult trophy to win in sports, but it's also the most fun to party with. Lord Stanley of Preston, the former Governor General of Canada, donated the trophy in 1893 as an award for Canada's best amateur ice hockey club. Since 1995, each winning team player gets one day with the 32-pound Cup during the off-season. The Cup is revered and honored, with full-time bodyguards who travel with it everywhere - from Canadian dive bars to Finnish saunas. Given its checkered history, constant supervision is a must. The Cup has suffered many indignities. Which one tarnished its reputation the worst?
