    Carl, a 10-year-old explorer, meets Ellie, another young explorer. They fall in love and plan an adventure. They marry, and Ellie becomes pregnant; she miscarries and learns she cannot have children.

    The couple shifts their dream trip to replace the loss, but the monster called life consumes their savings.

    Carl cannot book the trip until they are both old. He plans to surprise Ellie, but moments before he reveals the news, she collapses and is hospitalized. She dies shortly after.

    The sequence covers over 60 years, causing 6,000 audience tears.

    The baby lives. The murderer, the same leopard that took her child, also lives. The cat leaps onto her from a beam, but she fights it off and adopts baby Tarzan.

    That egg becomes Nemo, a young fish captured who takes Marlin on a wild pelican chase across the ocean. The massacre opening makes Nemo's disappearance and Marlin's resolve less sad. After the tragedy, Marlin and Nemo leave each other.

    In Disney's 1996 film, persecuted Roma try to enter Paris. Minister of Justice Claude Frollo catches them. His goons cuff the men. The group's only woman escapes with her infant. Frollo stops them at Notre Dame cathedral steps.

    Frollo kills her and takes her baby. He calls the deformed Quasimodo a monster and hangs him over a well. An archdeacon's timely plea stops the killing.

    The 2008 film.Waltz with Bashir.Waltz with Bashir shows the 1982 Lebanon War using sharp storytelling and animation. The opening scene features a pack of fierce dogs tearing through Tel Aviv streets, destroying things and scaring people, before gathering under a Lebanon War veteran's apartment.

    The film shifts to that veteran in the present. He explains this is a PTSD nightmare he has had many nights. Even years after service ended, he is haunted by the dogs he was ordered to shoot on duty.

    From his flying bed, Nemo—a child with intense dreams—sees a ruined city. He falls into the tunnel of a speeding 'locomotive,' which chases him on land and water.

    The train destroys his bed and moves toward his house. His mother, with her back turned, beats eggs creepily. Nemo holds the door and begs his mother to leave, but she stays put. The train smashes through the house as he wakes on his bedroom floor.
