The Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts powerful superheroes and formidable villains, including alien beasts, Asgardian gods, and gamma-irradiated giants that level cities. But there are also tiny, fragile beings doing their best despite being incredibly weak. These characters are wonderful, charming, sinister, or awesome in their own right, contributing to the world in meaningful ways. However, they're physically out of their league - trying to punch Thor would only result in a broken hand. To give them their due, it's essential to understand their contributions before explaining why they're no match for the MCU's heavy hitters, despite their mental or emotional strengths.

Justin Hammer mirrors Tony Stark; he is a wealthy, megalomaniacal arms dealer and tech CEO who builds Iron Man-style armor. Justin acts more like a poor man's Tony Stark than a true reflection. Tony is egotistical and brilliant. Justin is just a self-obsessed buffoon who cares more about money and self-promotion than helping the world or making a good product.
There is one telling scene inIron Man 2 is on the list of weakest MCU characters. In Iron Man 2, Justin has Ivan Vanko sitting in a room under armed guard. The well-dressed businessman tries to threaten the Russian lunatic. Justin tells Vanko he is "a dead man" if Vanko does not comply. Justin plays a tough guy, and Vanko cannot be less scared or intimidated. Justin shows salesmanship selling arms to Lt. Col. James Rhodes, yet he remains a sneaky jerk in a grey three-piece suit.

The Mandarin is known globally as a major villain, but the international bad guy is revealed to be Trevor Slattery, a washed-up actor who uses substances. Advanced Idea Mechanics and the scientist Aldrich Killian hired Trevor. Killian uses the Mandarin's supposed attacks to further his goals and cover up problems from his Extremis program.
Tony Stark reveals the Mandarin's true, drunken, oblivious persona. Trevor Slattery turns out to be a scared, idiotic actor needing work. Trevor has no idea he is a public pawn in a huge conspiracy.

Phineas Mason, also known as the Tinkerer, began as a construction site salvage worker. He became a clever, brilliant inventor and underworld mastermind inSpider-Man: Homecoming is on the list of weakest MCU characters.Working with Adrian Toomes, the Vulture, Phineas uses salvaged alien and Ultron tech. He builds hyper-futuristic gear to help Toomes and his crew of former salvage employees pull off heists.
The Tinkerer has an incredible mind for reverse engineering and modifying otherworldly tech. He develops anti-gravity blasters, shocker gauntlets, and matter phase-shifters. Phineas does not use this tech himself; he stays out of fights. He is an affable, behind-the-scenes welder who stays in his lane.

As the Yellowjacket, Darren Cross proves a tough opponent for Scott Lang as Ant-Man. Cross's Yellowjacket suit has laser-blasting robotic parts and a more threatening helmet. Their climactic battle is one of the most creative and thrilling fights in the entire MCU.
Darren acts like a pompous scientist before putting on the suit. He throws tantrums because Hank Pym does not appreciate him. Hank, Hope Van Dyne, and Scott break into Cross's lab to steal the Yellowjacket suit before Darren can sell it to Hydra. Hank surprises Darren with a solid punch. Darren later runs from the exchange after ants bite him. This shows poor villainy.

Arnim Zola, a Hydra scientist, was very important and influential in the MCU. He remained non-intimidating and weak. Zola worked with the Germans and Hydra during WWII. He also led the Winter Soldier program, which made Bucky Barnes the metal-armed assassin. Zola's villainous plans shaped much of the MCU's history, including the present.
He is a sniveling, small jerk who sends others into fights for him. He invented superpowered exoskeletons but never wore one himself. He remains a frightened inventor with a love for hate. Eventually, a terminal illness takes him. His brain and consciousness get transferred and downloaded into a computer in a bunker beneath Camp Lehigh.
His intelligence does not load into a giant robot body, unlike in the comics. This lack of a robot body could still threaten Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff when they find the computer during the events ofCaptain America: The Winter Soldier.Instead, Zola is just an old reel-to-reel computer. Zola only stalls the pair long enough for S.H.I.E.L.D. to try and blow up the base. The plan fails. Steve and Natasha escape while the explosion destroys Zola's mainframe.

As the righthand man and first mate of the disgraced Ravager Yondu Udonta, Kraglin is a loyal friend and shipmate. Kraglin is also brave in many situations, standing up to the forces ofRonan the Accuser.Kraglin defied his fellow Ravagers after sparking a mutiny during the attack on Xandar.

Ego boards the ship when the Sovereign's omnicrafts appear and tries to warn his comrades. He stays behind because everyone else offers something useful for the battle.

Fandral, a Warriors Three member and Asgardian, seems more powerful than an average human. The Warriors Three often feel like fodder in the MCU. They try fighting the Destroyer in the first Thor movie and lose quickly.During that fight, Fandral does nothing but look worried about Volstagg and Lady Sif.Fandral loses the fight fast. During that battle, Fandral only looks worried about Volstagg and Lady Sif.
In Thor: Ragnarok, the warriors stand around while Hela shows up. She takes out all three with magic daggers in a blink. They fight less than any random soldier in the Asgardian army. Fandral is known among the Warriors Three for his charm, not his fighting skill or effort, but his winning personality.Hela takes out the three warriors with magic daggers in the blink of an eye. They put up less of a fight than any random soldier in the Asgardian army. Fandral is known among the Warriors Three for his charm, not his fighting skill or effort, but his winning personality.

Howard Stark, like his son Tony, was a scientific genius. He would have amazed by what Tony built. Howard worked on the super soldier serum that gave Captain America powers. He fought Hydra his whole life and set up his son to invent a new element. Howard Stark was also a brazen playboy before Tony's post-kidnapping change.
Howard Stark was a businessman and executive. He knew how to get dirty if needed, but he wore a well-tailored suit. His defeat by the Winter Soldier showed his limits as an ordinary man fighting stronger foes. After a brainwashed Bucky Barnes caused a crash, the Winter Soldier's metal arm punched Howard Stark to death. This shows his human weakness made him outmatched early.

The man found and perfected the Pym particle. This allowed the Ant-Man suit to work. He is a brilliant scientist. Hank Pym also became a national hero. He served as Ant-Man decades ago. Hank and his wife Janet—the Wasp, a shrinking superhero—saved the world from nuclear war in 1987 by disabling a Soviet ICBM.
Hank is an old man with great hair today. He can still throw a good punch. Hank fakes heart attacks to distract people because he looks like he could have one. Scott Lang, who is much younger, faces serious harm if Hank grew fifty feet tall in the Ant-Man suit. Hank remains a smart, devoted scientist superhero past his prime.
-803 - 11

Tony Stark's business partner acts like a maniacal killer. In the Iron Monger armor, Stane becomes one of the first villains to challenge Iron Man. Even without the armor, Stane nearly kills Tony. Stane paralyzes Tony and rips the arc reactor from his chest, nearly ending the inventor's life.
Obadiah Stane gains much power piloting the Iron Monger armor, like Tony Stark. Stane lacks Stark's engineering skill and is older, at least two or three decades. Stane looks tough with his bald head and beard. Tony would flatten Stane in a street fight. Any other MCU hero would do the same.
-906 - 12

He brought the Avengers together by giving them a reason to seek revenge. He serves as a dedicated S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. He has a strategic mind and a calm, measured manner, making him a great leader and a stoic mentor. Still, he is an ordinary guy playing in a sandbox full of gods, robot suits, and rage-fueled super-beings.
The guy never escaped unscathed. But he refused to back down against constant danger. Look at one scene inThe AvengersSee why he is a weak player. While holding Loki at gunpoint with the giant laser blaster, he struggled to keep it up. Then, he got stabbed in the back and died. He lacked the durability to fight those world titans. He did get one last good blast with that big laser cannon.

Tony Stark began as a selfish arms dealer. Over just a decade and a half, he became a self-sacrificing savior. In his Iron Man armor, Tony destroyed Chitauri aliens, fought fire-breathing soldiers, and blasted robot armies. He snapped his fingers to destroy a massive invading force threatening Earth.
Without his Iron Man armor, Tony Stark remains a spoiled billionaire with a sharp tongue. Unlike Bruce Wayne, who has ninja training, Tony lacks that background. Tony created his many suits through genius, yet he struggles without tech and gear in a fight.
To see his relative strength, watch him and Steve Rogers chop wood at Clint Barton's farm inAvengers: Age of Ultron.Tony uses an ax and scrapes through a few logs; Steve Rogers rips logs apart without a blade. Without his suit, Stark is only a thrill-seeking businessman.

Rocket Raccoon is a genetically modified talking raccoon. He has a sharp mind for building technology, weapons, and traps. Rocket has helped save the world multiple times as a member ofThe Guardians of the Galaxy.and the Avengers. Rocket possesses a sharp mouth, a bad temper, and access to a strong arsenal.
Strip away the fancy tech, and Rocket is just a raccoon. He has the average strength of a large raccoon. He might find wildlife-proof trash cans, but in a street fight, he will claw eyes or bite fingers.

This Sokovian soldier became an underworld mastermind. He plans revenge and causes the Avengers to break apart inCaptain America: Civil War., he activates the Winter Soldier after framing him for an attack. Helmut drives a near-fatal split between Iron Man and Captain America, causing them to almost kill each other and ruin their friendship.
Helmut Zemo uses mind games and lies because he knows he cannot defeat the Avengers alone; he lacks the strength to end them individually. He uses his brain instead of his strength to defeat enemies. Fighting any Avenger one-on-one would destroy Helmut. Black Panther overpowers Helmut and forces him to face justice, preventing him from ending his life.
