About this list

Car names can be funny, confusing, or ridiculous. Auto manufacturers use names to emphasize what's cool about their cars, making them famous worldwide. Or, they create names that make their cars infamous. Many manufacturers, like those in Germany and Japan, combine numbers and letters to create names like CTS-V, ATS, RX7, SLS, 335i, and QX50. This practice helps avoid translation errors. Most weird car names originated from this practice, resulting in word salad, funny combinations, or silly sounds. The best and funniest names come from Asian and European exports that seemed like a good idea at one time, but not everywhere. Culture clash can be funny, until it becomes a culture crash. Some cars, like the Chevrolet Doesn't-Go, exemplify this. A name can make or break a car. The cars on this list missed the mark. Vote for the funniest car names below.

    Chevrolet LUV/Isuzu FasterCars Other Vehicles

During the 1970s and '80s, many American makers used captive imports to meet rising demand for smaller, fuel-efficient cars. One such deal brought in an Isuzu mini-truck, which Chevrolet rebranded as the LUV. "Light Utility Vehicle" described the truck well. The Isuzu's home name was the Faster.
