The audience still found it funny, thinking it was part of the act.

    The production team knew it was not an act. They cut to a commercial break. They called an ambulance, and the hospital pronounced him dead on arrival.

Hayes rode in a race under colors for the second time. The trainer knew nothing of Hayes' family ties, but he thought Hayes had a mother and sister in Brooklyn.

    It Took Con Men Many Tries To Murder Michael Malloy For Insurance Money

    Many Americans faced hard times in the 1930s. Michael Malloy was one of them. Malloy, born in Ireland, was one of millions of immigrants who did not see America's promise of prosperity. Malloy (AKA Nicolas Mellory) lived without a home, spending his days and nights on New York streets.

    Several con men—Tony Marino, Joseph Murphy, Francis Pasqua, Hershey Green, and Daniel Kriesberg—planned a scheme in 1933 toHe tried to take out a life insurance policy.on Malloy and then kill him to collect the money. They thought no one would miss him.

    One detail changed the plan:Malloy kept surviving.The men tried murder several times. They used everything they could think of that avoided looking like violence. They drugged him with alcohol, mixed shrapnel into his sandwiches, and tried to run him over with a car. He earned the nicknames “Iron Mike,” “Durable Malloy,” and “Mike the Durable.”

    The men finally killed Malloy by arranging for him to asphyxiate on coal gas. Police investigated, found the culprits, and tried them. Four of the five received the death penalty.
