About this list

The Netflix film Bird Box presents a world where supernatural creatures drive humans to suicide. Intense and disturbing images abound, raising questions about human behavior in a broken world and how far people will go to save loved ones. Characters make questionable decisions, like steering a boat blindfolded or getting drunk during the apocalypse, as if they've never seen a horror movie. While their choices are somewhat understandable given the horrific circumstances - the creatures are terrifying and many survivors have lost loved ones - at some point, they need to think clearly and make better decisions. How would you survive in the world of Bird Box? Would you play it safe or make the same mistakes as Sandra Bullock?

Charlie Opens The Door For Fish Fingers

Charlie finds his friend "Fish Fingers" by a loading bay door while grabbing groceries. Fish Fingers smashes the door and screams. He is clearly having a bad time.

The group opens the door for Fish Fingers. This action destroys Charlie, an author who understood the danger. They also lose the person holding the supermarket key. Food won't last forever, but having supplies locked up is good.

Tom And Malorie Don't Plan For A Future Encounter With The Seers

After leaving the city, Malorie and Tom move to the woods. They train themselves to hear creatures near. This idea is good, but they lack preparation for the seers. Seers are unique people who see creatures without losing it. They want survivors to see the monsters too.

After surviving Gary's sabotage, the couple should trap the house against these creeps or set up an alarm system.

    Everyone Runs From The Creatures

The characters make perhaps the worst decision inBird BoxRunning from the creatures is the worst decision. These things enter your mind. They pretend to be loved ones. They make loud noises. They throw leaves everywhere. They do not touch you. They cannot open doors or windows. They are just bark and no bite.

Why run from them? Initially, Malorie and the survivors should run. After five years dealing with these unseen threats, they should get used to leaving quietly. Instead, they flee. They trip, fall, or even capsize their boats.

The Survivors Only Cover The Windows With Newspaper

On the surface, covering the house windowswith layers of newspaperThis is a good plan. The material is thick enough to block sight. It lets some natural light through, though. Newspaper tears easily if someone tries to show the creatures. What if someone tries to break in?

The housemates never update their defense systems. This failure causes their small commune to fall apart.

Malorie And Her Sister Leave The Hospital After Seeing A Woman Hurt Herself

Malorie saw a woman smash her head into a window after a prenatal doctor visit early in the film. This started a chain of terrible events. Malorie and her sister left the hospital. Why? A hospital offers the safest place in a crisis.

Right after Malorie and her sister left the hospital, her sister saw a creature and crashed her car. Malorie might not have been safe in the hospital. But at the film's end, she meets her former doctor at the school for the blind. Some people at the hospital escaped. They did not need to raft blindfolded down a river to survive.

Douglas Gets Drunk In The Supermarket

Douglas getting drunk in a supermarket is not the worst choice Douglas makes. Whilehis drinking is problematicLater in the film, who would not drink a whole bottle of bourbon after seeing your wife and people you know end up killed by invisible monsters?

No One Attempts To Scavenge Before Going To The Supermarket

Malorie and the group get lucky to use the supermarket where Charlie works. The drive is long. They must use GPS and parking sensors. No one thinks about scavenging supplies in the nearby houses and neighborhoods.

This path lets people get help or run for safety fast if plans fail. They also find supplies not sold at supermarkets.

    Everyone Chooses To Wear Blindfolds

The whole idea ofBird BoxPeople cannot look at strange creatures; they will burn themselves if they do. Survivors find ways to survive the world without looking. Malorie and her kids use blindfolds to move through.

This creates someengaging marketingThis works, but people need a better way to avoid seeing the creatures. Malorie and her kids must run through a forest, raft a heavy river, and face natural obstacles. There must be a safer, faster way than a blindfold. Use a blanket? Or a white cane like blind people? No good answer exists, but a better method is needed.

Malorie And The Kids Take On Rapids Blindfolded

This is a tough spot. If Malorie and the kids take off their blindfolds, they see the creatures and die. If they stay blindfolded, they might fall off the boat and drown. Malorie keeps the blindfold, and the boat capsizes.

It is hard to say which choice was better. That water looks very cold and unappealing.
