An Oxygen documentary series. The Disappearance of Maura Murray. This covers the mysterious 2004 vanishing of the 21-year-old New Hampshire nursing student. This is the first crime mystery of the social media age..

Maura Murray vanished on February 9, just five days after Facebook launched. The name doesn't center on social media causing the disappearance. It centers on how social media and the changing internet drew amateur sleuths to the case, even though Murray's location remains unknown decades later.

On the day she vanished, Murray emailed her University of Massachusetts Amherst College of Nursing professors. She said she would be out for a week due to a family death, though her family later stated no tragedy occurred. She packed her things and got into her car.

After 7 pm, her car hit a tree in Woodsville, NH. A bus driver in the area stopped to help. He said the young woman in the car did not look hurt but asked him—some reports say she 'pleaded' with him not to call the police. He called the police after arriving home. Some people think Murray met foul play and became a victim of a criminal after the car crash. Others believe she fled and walked into the woods where she died from the weather. Police dogs could not track her scent. Still, some think a second car followed Murray, picked her up, and she left to start a new life.

She has not reappeared in years, despite the work of many detectives, both amateur and professional, and severalpotentially promising leads.Maura Murray disappeared after crashing her car into a snowbank.

Spierer's friends at the sports bar claimed she was very drunk. She met David Rohn around 12:30 am before going to another friend Jay Rosenbaum's apartment for pre-game. Corey Rossman, Rosenbaum's neighbor, then joined the group. Spierer left the sports bar less than an hour later at 2:27 am with Rossman, whom she met one week earlier at the 2011 Indy 500 race. The bar had a sandy area, so Spierer may have removed her shoes. She also left her cell phone at the bar. Later that morning, Spierer’s boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, texted her, but a bar employee texted back. Wolff then called the police and filed a missing person report.Wolff filed a missing person report..

Spierer is seen on footage just before 2:50 am leaving the apartment complex through an alley on Morton Street and College Avenue. She walks toward an empty parking lot. Authorities found Spierer’s purse and keys in the alley while investigating.

The pair went to Rossman’s apartment. Rossman was very drunk, according to his roommate, Michael Beth. Rossman allegedly had trouble walking and vomited on the carpet. Beth told police he was doing homework when they arrived. Beth put Rossman to bed. He told Spierer staying at their apartment was safer than trying to go home alone. Spierer refused his offer.

Beth.Beth called Rosenbaum.for help, Spierer went to Rosenbaum’s apartment. There, he saw a bruise under her eye and asked where she got it. Spierer told Rosenbaum she did not know how it happened. Authorities think she fell sometime during the night. While at Rosenbaum's apartmentBeth called Rosenbaum around 3:30 am.Spierer used her phone for two calls. Around 4:30, she left alone, apparently going to her apartment. No one saw her again.

Investigators thought of a drug overdose possibility because Spierer had a heart condition calledLong QT syndrome.. This condition causes sudden, fast, chaotic, life-threatening heartbeats. Cocaine causes these beats. This explanation has never been confirmed.
