When He Was Possessed by the Phoenix Force

Cyclops's worst moment happened during Avengers Vs. X-Men.The Phoenix Force's god-like power possessed Scott Summers in the 2012 crossover, making him one of Marvel's strongest. Avengers and X-Men combined forces took him down, but they suffered heavy losses.

When He Became the New Magneto

For decades, Scott Summers followed Charles Xavier's teaching. He fought for mutant rights, living with humans. He opposed Magneto's separatist views.X-Men.Comic book titles in 2012 led to 2013'sUncanny X-Men.Cyclops started taking Magneto's ideas as mutants became a smaller group.

Scott aimed to turn young mutants into soldiers, not students. Magneto worried about Summers' new direction. A villain who does not see themselves as evil is the worst kind.

When He Elected Himself Leader of All Mutants

When Norman Osborn gained power, one goal was to create conflict between mutants and humans during theUtopia.During the Utopia crossover, many X-Men faced blame and hate crimes. Mutants and humans caused riots. This pushed Summers and the X-Men to take a big risk. Scott led, moving all mutants to an island off California, naming it "Utopia." He invited all other mutants to join.

Scott Summers was in charge once the community formed. There were no votes or elections; no one else, not even fellow X-Men, was considered for leadership. Cyclops had good intentions, but he wanted and kept the power. He did not ask for power, but he did not give it up. This mirrors Magneto's rule over the all-mutant colony, Asteroid M.

When He Killed His Mentor, Charles Xavier

The biggest blow in 2012.Avengers Vs. X-Men. The biggest blow in 2012's was when Cyclops was possessed bythe Phoenix Force.Cyclops murdered his father figure, Charles Xavier. Summers claims the Phoenix Force controlled his actions, but he acted anyway. Many question if he is a monster for killing Xavier or for avoiding responsibility for it.

When He Formed The X-Force For Black Ops Wetwork

The third volume and incarnation of the.X-Force. Cyclops ordered the creation of the X-Force as a secret group of assassins. This group would kill figures causing trouble for mutants. While this lacks morals, it is understandable. Many world leaders use black ops teams for jobs the public should not know about. Still, ordering executions without blood on your hands is a jerk move.

Wolverine agreed to lead the squad, but he had limits. Logan blew his lid when Cyclops assigned X-23, a young girl trying to stop her violent programming, to the team. Cyclops should have known better than to deny the girl a childhood and skills outside of assassination. This feels hypocritical since X-23 was taken from her handlers, ending her use as a weapon.

When He Coerced A Kid To Murder People

X-23 is not the only child Cyclops forced to kill someone.X-Men: Schism.#3. Cyclops made Idie, a young mutant, use her powers to kill members of the Hellfire Club. Captured, scared, and alone, Idie followed Cyclops's advice. She killed them all before a bomb went off that would have killed hundreds more.

Wolverine, heading to save her, was furious with Cyclops for making a child a killer. Cyclops argued the ends justified the means. Granted, Wolverine has done messed up things too, but he still has a point.Wolverine has done some pretty messed up things, too.But he still has a point.

When He Married A Woman Because She Looked Like His Dead Lover

Cyclops mourned Jean Grey's death but then met Madelyne Pryor. Cyclops needed time to grieve Jean, but he immediately dated and married her. Uncanny X-Men.#175. Scott fell hard for her because she looked like Jean.

Dating someone just because they remind you of a dead lover is being an asshole. You love a memory, not the person. This is worse because Madelyne genuinely loved Cyclops. But that wasn't the worst thing Cyclops did to Madelyne.

When He Left Madelyne, Then Basically Shrugged When She Died

Madelyne Pryor died in bothThe Fall of the Mutants.andInferno., as herself and as the Goblin Queen (don't ask). Cyclops felt a bit down both times, yet he didn't care much that his estranged wife died. Jean Grey returned, and Cyclops coldly dropped Madelyne's lookalike.

Still, Cyclops should have grieved more. This was the mother of his child. You didn't know...

When He Tried To Be A Deadbeat Dad So He Could Lead The X-Men

Madelyne gave birth to Cyclops's son, Nathan Christopher Charles Summers, whom you know as Cable. Scott was not ready to be a family man yet, so he returned to lead the X-Men. Angry about avoiding his duties, Storm challenged Cyclops to a duel for leadership inX-Men.#201. Storm won the battle and became the leader. Cyclops had to resume his father duties... but not for long.

When He Succeeded At Being A Deadbeat Dad To Lead X-Factor

Scott did not leave his family to lead the X-Men but jumped ship to lead the new X-Factor.X-Factor.#1. Cyclops left his wife and baby to fight for the good mutant cause. It was a harsh sacrifice, but it served the common good... also, Jean Grey was alive again.

Scott hurt Madelyne and other women because he was so devoted to Jean Grey. That love was special; it stayed loyal to each other and to no one else. That kind of love means two people against the world, forever.

When He Cheated On Jean Grey With Emma Frost

Or not. Grant Morrison wrote this.New X-Men.,Cyclops goes to therapy with Emma Frost, a reformed Hellfire Club member. These sessions get less platonic and more intense, with Cyclops emotionally cheating on his wife Jean. The cheating moves from feeling to action fast. Can't he treat his partner right?

And The Times When He Wasn't Honest With Emma Either

No. Scott Summers is not loyal to anyone he loves. InAstonishing X-Men.and other titles, Emma still does not believe Scott is over his dead (again) wife. She often catches him telepathically fantasizing about Jean. Even during talks about this, Scott remains unfaithful to Emma. He turned on Emma to get more Phoenix Force power inAvengers vs. X-Men..

Even though Cyclops is a jerk in romance, he is an effective, understanding leader. He does not emotionally manipulate the people he leads.

    When He Provoked Wolverine's PTSD

Crap. After dealing with reality-bending Proteus inUncanny X-Men.#126, Wolverine is understandably shaken. Logan's body and mind were warped and tortured by his time at theWeapon X program.. Proteus gave him extra trauma and flashbacks to some of the worst things he has ever faced.

What does the brave leader Cyclops do? Does he send Wolverine to counseling to handle his trauma? Does he give him time off to regroup mentally? Does he offer a friendly hug?

Nope. He provokes Logan, calling him a coward and a fake. Calling a traumatized person's dedication into question boosts no one. He does not care about Logan the person; he just wants Wolverine the weapon ready.

But if we look back, we should not be surprised by these entries.

When He... Actually, He's Always Been An A**hole

Cyclops was a jerk from the start. Look at this panel fromX-Men.#1 in the original 1960s series. From the start, he lectured and browbeated his teammates. Scott Summers was a stick in the mud, then became a hypocrite, then mutated into a full-blown asshole. We must admit this and stop viewing the character through rose-colored glasses or, in this case, a rose-colored ruby quartz visor.
