The MCU is expanding, as seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is a good time to look back at the many Marvel universes that have hit the big screen over the past few decades. Before the MCU, Sony, Fox, and others brought various universes to theaters. Some, like the original X-Men universe, lasted a while. Others, like the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, made a single appearance before being discontinued. Although it's tempting to think all these films share the same universe, that's unrealistic. Let's break down the Marvel movie universes we've seen since 1998's Blade launched the House of Ideas in Hollywood.

These are the top movies. These are the best. Starting with 2008, we see the goliaths. The best of the best.Iron ManThis runs through until Kevin Feige retires. He is rolling over in his grave.Marvel Cinematic UniverseThe MCU took characters not shilled to Sony or Fox to change how Hollywood views big franchises. How big the MCU grows remains unknown, not even Feige knows. Soon, we might call this the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.
The MCU stays because it has over two dozen films, many TV shows, a few shorts, and upcoming Disney+ series. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is huge. Streaming services mean fewer people go to theaters now, especially after COVID-19.Avengers: Endgamebecame thehighest-grossing film ever., making $2.8 billion worldwide. That is billions with a 'b'.

Thanks toBlade, theX-Menfranchise put Marvel properties on the map for big-screen adaptations. The seven films in the initial X-Men films universeinitialX-Menfilms universe, from 2000'sX-Menthrough to 2014'sX-Men: Days of Future Past, proved to Hollywood that superheroes other than Superman and Batman can lead a huge success. They brought Hugh Jackman to the world stage; we should be thankful for that.
The films differ a lot in quality. We do not need to discuss X-Men Origins: Wolverine.X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we do? There were many good moments. We think of Logan asLoganthe final film in theX-Menfranchise of films. It is agenuinely great film, serves as a goodbye to Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart for roles they made iconic over the years, and ends the franchise on a high note. Alas, there were three more films released afterLogan (Deadpool 2, Dark Phoenix, and The New Mutants)so that doesn't really work. Also, Logan takes place in anentirely different universethan the rest of theX-Menfilms anyway.than the rest of the

Here is a strange one. The wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff brought to theHere's a weird one. Thanks to the time travel shenanigans of Josh Brolin's Cable brought to Deadpool 2, we see a universe wiped out by the time the credits roll. We wouldn't think too hard about it if we were you. This is a film that got athanks to the time travel shenanigans of Josh Brolin's Cablere-cut versioninspired byThe Princess Bride, after all. It does not take itself too seriously, and viewers should not either.
The plot ofDeadpool 2is complicated. It introduces many new characters and deals with time travel. It is a goofy action-comedy where Deadpool (from this movie's universe) uses Cable's time-traveling abilities to go back and stop his girlfriend's death (in the revised X-Men universe where the first Deadpool film happened).X-Menuniverse where the firstDeadpoolfilm took place). There will be no more FoxThere will be no more Fox X-Men films anyway, so do not worry about it!X-Men

As popular as the X-Men franchise was throughout the 2000s, the superhero box office champion was the originalX-MenSpider-ManoriginalSpider-MantrilogySam Raimi's trilogy was not perfect. Still, it captured the comic book essence of the web-slinger. Marvel Studios has not topped that approach. This universe feels old sometimes, but the massive success of these films made the Marvel Cinematic Universe possible.

Aunt May, Mary Jane Watson, and Harry Osborn appear too. Sony gave Raimi freedom to make what he wanted with the franchise.canceledSpider-Man 4we would have gotten the Lizard, the Vulture, and Black Cat too.

The Amazing Spider-Manuniverse of filmsThe Amazing Spider-Man never started right, but casting was not the franchise's issue. This Sony film series had A-list stars. Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Chris Cooper, Felicity Jones. There was plenty of acting talent. Still, bothThe Amazing Spider-Manand its sequel just never felt right.
Sony put the cart before the horse. They planned a massive cinematic universe, including a film about theSinister Six, beforeThe Amazing Spider-Man 2Even hit theaters. That film underperformed. Sony put all these plans on hold. Sony lent Spider-Man to Marvel Studios to boost the character's popularity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Holland quickly made Andrew Garfield an afterthought. The talented actor got a bad deal at the end.

WithSpider-Man, Blade, andX-MenAll Marvel properties performed well at the box office. Studios tried to copy that success. Marvel's first family jumped from comics to screen. The cast included Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Kerry Washington, and Captain America, Chris Evans.Fantastic FourThe Fantastic Four had a chance to be a good movie. It was mediocre at best.Critics and fans found the movie weak at the box office. Plans for sequels stopped. The universe felt goofy and cartoony.
Though the sequel fareda little better with critics and fans, it missed the box office. Plans for more sequels stopped. The movie felt goofy and cartoony. The Mr. Fantastic dance scene happened. That is acceptable. Not every comic book movie needs to be serious. This paved the way for Fox to try a grittier reboot later.Mr. Fantastic dance sceneThe results might be okay. We do not need every comic book movie to be super serious.

If you fail first time, try again. That is the saying. The 2015 movieFantastic Four(AKAFANT4STIC, for some reason) went against earlier Fantastic Four films. It aimed to show the 1960s supergroup could be as serious as any other comic book franchise.the resultswere not fantastic.
The cast featured young stars like Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Kate Mara. Josh Trank directed the film. Behind-the-scenes drama caused many reshoots. This signals trouble. The project likely failed before it reached theaters. Marvel Studios should give the FF what they deserve in the future.does not look great. Maybe Marvel Studios can give the FF what they deserve in the future?

Years before the NetflixDaredevilDaredevil series became a streaming hit. Marvel Cinematic Universe showed a glimmer in Kevin Feige's eye. Fox attempted a high-risk move with Elektra.Fox threw a hail mary withDaredevil by bringing talent like Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Michael Clarke Duncan, Colin Farrell, Joe Pantoliano, and Jon Favreau. This happened just beforeIron Man.and Happy Hogan; this cast is solid.
But the follow-up/spinoff,Elektra, failed togain traction., so that was the end for this universe. It feels like a mix between the Netflix series and the originalFantastic Fourfilms; it is both very serious and very campy. That is a tough balance for any project.Daredevil(and, to a lesser extent,Elektra) missed the mark. However, if you want Colin Farrell to act, there is some fun to find.

Adapting the Punisher for the big screen is simple compared to other Marvel superheroes. Bringing a comic book character who takes out bad guys with guns makes for an easy adaptation. The first attempt to adapt the Punisher in the new millennium appeared in 2004.The Punisherstarring Thomas Jane and John Travolta.
Thomas Jane plays a decent Frank Castle, but the resulting film isless than stellar.. It did not start a franchise; a reboot arrived four years later. Still, if you like seeing a guy fight villains in a skull t-shirt and a leather jacket, you can tolerate this.1990 direct-to-video versionafter all.

Released the same year as Marvel Cinematic Universe filmsIron ManandThe Incredible Hulk, Punisher: War Zoneintended to reboot the character under the "Marvel Knights" banner. "Marvel Knights," like the comic imprint, meant to show stories outside the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. The "Marvel Knights" film's lack of staying power shows you how it was received.
It replaced Thomas Jane with Ray Stevenson and used a harsher tone than the originalPunisherfilm. It has become acult filmin the last decade, with fans liking its silly tone and cartoonish chaos. Dominic West's acting as Billy "Jigsaw" Russoti is something to watch if you handle the craziness. Remember this film earns its hard-R rating.

Do you recall when Nicolas Cage was not a meme? It feels like ages ago, but Cage was genuine Hollywood royalty before he took every job because of money problems., that is.And, as a comic book fan, Cage jumped at the chance to play Johnny Blaze in the 2007 filmGhost Rider.. If that first Ghost Rider movie was average, the sequel increased the craziness.
2012'sGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeancebrought to audiences by the same duo that broughtCrankandGamerto the masses, so it is wild. It is funny to think that in the same yearThe Avengerswas released and changed how Hollywood viewed blockbusters. Nic Cage played the devilish Ghost Rider in a totally different Marvel movie.

This istechnicallythe Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we include it even though it only appeared on television inAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.It exists in the same universe as the Marvel Studios films up until Thanos's minions invade Earth inAvengers: Infinity War. After that, things go wrong asGlenn Talbotends up destroying the Earth—evenThanosdid not really want to do that.
While where "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." fits remains unclear,Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios started a television series on Disney+ for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fans will always support the ABC show.It didthe series had the power to blow up the entire planet by the end of its fourth season; this makes the show admirable.

1998'sBladeBlade was the test case that proved Marvel properties could succeed in the big screen. Superman and Batman were Hollywood staples before, but the House of Ideas lacked a chance to show their superheroes could move to movie theaters. Wesley Snipes brought the vampire hunter to life and started Marvel's movie career.
Fans look forward to Blade joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This original trilogy includesBlade,Blade II,andBlade: TrinityBlade has a devoted fanbase. Snipes's playing of Eric Brooks has undeniable coolness, and the character's simple nature appeals to people.

People joke that fans got three actors for Peter Parker since 2000. Bruce Banner also gets this treatment. Eric Bana's Banner, the first Hulk version, often gets ignored. This seems odd given the film's huge budget and pedigree. Ang Lee, a celebrated filmmaker of the last 50 years, directed it.
The CGI does not hold up well. However, the film was made in 2003, and the effects were cutting-edge for that time. The film received a mediocre reception.Critics and fans' so-so reception made it an afterthought compared to other superhero movies. It was neither bad enough nor good enough to stick in people's memories.
