Jaime Reyes Is Actually The Third Blue Beetle

The Blue Beetle in the 2023 movie is Jaime Reyes. Jaime was not the first person to wear the costume. Charles Nicholas Wojkoski created Blue Beetle for Fox Comics in 1939. His secret identity was Dan Garret, or Garrett, since comic books are never simple.

Ted Kord took over Garret after Charlton Comics published the character. Jaime Reyes appeared only after DC got the rights. DC created its own successor to Kord in the mid-2000s.

His Comic Book Persona Has Been Convoluted By DC’s Frequent Revamps

DC's frequent changes to Jaime Reyes' comic history over the last decade have complicated things. DC's multiple attempts to relaunch their fictional continuity cause this.

Jaime's first major change occurred with the New 52 in 2011, which rebooted DC's entire continuity. Jaime's origin shifted slightly, so did some lore about the Scarab and The Reach. DC's Rebirth in 2016 brought back Ted Kord and set up a mentor/mentee relationship.
