The sex of the larvae depends on fertilization. Fertilized eggs make females; unfertilized eggs make males. When the wasp larva hatches, it makes a small hole in the spider's abdomen, enters, and eats voraciously, avoiding vital organs to keep the spider alive.

After several weeks, the larva pupates. The wasp becomes an adult and emerges from the spider's abdomen to continue the life cycle.
