From u/molnarg1102:
Two friends never met. Before speaking, I told both that the other was deaf. They shouted for minutes, then realized I was an idiot.

From u/Troidin:
My mom's laptop showed her granddaughter's picture. I copied it 100 times. I made the wallpaper a slideshow of that same photo, changing every 10 seconds. On one picture, I painted a small curly mustache. For ten seconds, my niece got a mustache. Mom thought she was crazy or had a virus; the mustache vanished as soon as she showed it.

From u/cryslea:
During one summer in college, I worked in the registrar's office, signing up all new freshmen. A professor who mentored me taught a freshman seminar and asked me to pick a class for her. He wanted straight-A students with high SAT scores. So, I picked 15 students, all named Sarah.

In middle school, my brother liked skateboarding with the neighbor next door. One day, my brother and the neighbor took a sheet of plywood from under my brother’s upper bunk bed—no one slept up there—out of the house. They built a skateboard ramp in the neighbor’s yard. My parents had told him not to do that.
My brother teased me hard, sometimes making me cry. He had done it for a long time, so he deserved it.
I planned something evil. I ran to the upstairs window and yelled down, “Brother’s name, guess what?!! Mom knows EVERYTHING and she is SOOO mad.” Then, I slammed the window shut and ran to the stairs, watching my mom read the newspaper.
A few minutes later, my brother walked in, looking worried. He said, “Mom, I’m so sorry.” My mom, unaware of the situation, asked, “About what?” while slowly putting the paper down. “About making a skateboard ramp from the wood in the bunk bed.”
“YOU DID WHAT?!!”
Shock and realization hit my brother’s face. Our eyes met. I let out my biggest evil little sister cackle and ran to my room.
We are adults now and still laugh about it sometimes.

School kids always took my Gatorade. I took an empty bottle, filled it with dyed salt water, and let them drink it. Watching one person spit salt water during class, only for their friend to do the same, was hilarious.

From u/Teagalim:
I farted under the covers and pointed at the ceiling above my girlfriend, shouting, “SPIDER!” She threw the blankets over her head.
She told her parents that action earned her dad's respect. He laughed so hard he needed an inhaler.

From u/wafflepark:
I lived in Korea briefly. When my mom visited, I told my Korean girlfriend an American custom involves touching elbows to greet older women. I told my mom that same story about Korean customs. It was beautiful. They did not like it.

From u/JUSTJESTING:
A friend kept trying to steal my sushi from my plate at a restaurant.
While she looked away, I stuffed it with wasabi and put some fish back on top to cover my tracks. I pretended not to see her reaching for it.
She put it in her mouth and started chewing. I turned my head toward her and said, "You messed up."
After five minutes of coughing, muffled screaming, and lots of water, she learned her lesson.

From u/Dexcov:
My friend, Neil, wanted to prank a mutual friend traveling in Sweden. Neil texted everyone in his phone book, claiming this friend (Chris) had West Nile Virus. This was a known, scary disease then.
People went crazy. A mutual friend, Chris, woke up to hundreds of missed calls and texts asking how he was and if he needed anything while he was in the hospital.
Neil took a break from sending West-Nile-News texts. I quickly changed my phone profile to "VERIZON WRLSS" and deleted all our texts.
After about an hour, I secretly texted Neil, "Your data usage for this month is near the limit on the account." This was before unlimited talk and text; exceeding the monthly data plan meant a slap from your parents.
Neil replied, "Wow, I sent so many texts that Verizon said I'm using almost all my data for the month!" He put his phone down... "I'm done for the night..."
I waited five more minutes before sending about ten messages in a row.
"YOUR DATA USAGE FOR THE MONTH IS NOW AT MAXIMUM USAGE, ANY ADDITIONAL CALLS OR TEXTS WILL COST $10.00USD PER MESSAGE/CALL."
Before he read the second message, he was in a full meltdown.
I kept sending, "YOUR MONTHLY BILL HAS NOW INCREASED TO $249.99 for February."
With every text, his eyes watered, and his blood turned cold thinking his dad would see this bill... all for a silly prank.
By nightfall, I sent a running bill up to $790.00 before finally saying it was a joke. His mix of relief, anger, thanks, and awe is something I never forget. I mentioned it at his wedding ten years later.

I worked at a science tutoring center during college and my gap year before professional school. We often taught anatomy. Naturally, we got some skeletons and skulls with different looks or markings. I was closing one night. My co-worker opened the next morning early. So, before I locked up, I put all the skeletons and skulls in a welcome display near the front door. I placed one right by the entrance. Several other skeletons and skulls sat behind a table watching. The trick was you had to turn on the lights by hand. That switch was right next to the door opening. So, when she reached for the light, she had to face a lifeless skeleton skull in the middle of the dark opening. She screamed. The noise made our boss come check if she was okay.
I woke up to some colorful texts. I still like that one.

I saw a post about swapping mayo and vanilla pudding. I emptied a mayo jar and cleaned it. I filled it with several pots of vanilla pudding and took it to university. Our university lets students eat during lectures. I waited until midday. All my friends were eating lunch then.
I took the jar of mayo and a spoon. I popped the lid and took a big spoonful with a grin. At first, only the nearest people noticed. After the third spoon, everyone froze around me. Silence dropped.
After the fifth spoon, someone made a face and stopped. The spell broke. The looks of pure terror and disgust were worth the pain of eating vanilla pudding. I prefer chocolate.

I got a Harry Potter calligraphy set for my birthday years ago. It had Hogwarts marked paper, envelopes, and everything.
My brother ate all my birthday chocolates from an aunt that night. I planned my revenge. Next September, I copied Harry's letter word for word in green ink, only changing the name.
I let him think he was going to magic school for two weeks. Then I ruined it.

The AM supervisor at my office is a short man. He likes working from a laptop on a rolling desk. For over a year, I raised the desk height slowly. I watched him go from sitting on a stool to an adjustable tall chair, and finally standing. Last week, he took the wheels off the desk to lower the height. He does not realize it is adjustable.

From u/The_Mantis-O-Shrimp:
I remember it clearly. At summer camp, cabin leaders found a small snake that was struggling. They put it in an old terrarium in our cabin. Some guys felt nervous. The next day, the leaders decided the snake was fine to release. I asked them to stay quiet about the release. When the other guys returned and saw no snake in the terrarium, chaos erupted.

At my sister's swim meet, I spotted an ice machine in a garage. I started collecting ice and put ice in almost everyone's shoe. That moment was wild, full of confusion and chaos. Everyone panicked; no one knew the shy girl secretly loved the turmoil.

Over ten years ago, I worked at a Guitar Center warehouse. We handled inventory, shipping, and receiving. A dumpster behind the store in a shared lot let people leave random items, even though it wasn't public. One day, we found a broken beach chair in a cardboard box. The box had a shipping label. It looked like the same person left the chair and box. We packed the chair in another box and sent it back to the customer. I wish I could see the person's face when they got their trash back via UPS.

My sister only keeps in her kitchen what she uses. She throws extras in the trash or donates them.
I started buying duplicates of things she got rid of and hid them in cabinet backs.
I found another one of her favorite mug. It was cracked then fixed. A kid dropped it and hid the broken pieces in the trash bottom. Another one showed up in the cupboard; the kid panicked. She made a great spit take while drinking from her mug and unloaded an identical one from the dishwasher.
She had plates with blue concentric circles on white. I found one with a lighter blue shade and wondered if the dishwasher faded it. Then, another had the same blue but different rings. Finally, one had the correct blue rings but a different background shade.
To get away with this, load the dishwasher and wait.
I did this weekly for about a year and a half. She grew worried. I finally admitted it when she switched to seasonal, holiday dishes and had more cups than she packed—now with saucers she hadn't had the year before.

I made a coworker believe the guy next to her for three years was named Jay, not Dave, for two months. They worked in separate departments but sat three feet apart for years. I got the guy and his manager involved. Later, his supervisor, group manager, division manager, and the whole department joined in. They bought him new nameplates for his desk and changed the system so his name printed as Jay. They kept his phone number and email the same. She thought she was losing it. When I told her, she punched me in the stomach and dropped me to my knees. She was a personal trainer, so she hit me hard.
It was totally worth it. I still laugh about it a decade later.

From u/JimTheJerseyGuy:
Early days of networked PCs. DOS and NetWare ran things. I worked in a campus computer lab. Management tools were scarce then. So, I and a few student employees wrote batch scripts and small programs to automate tasks for students or professors logging onto the network. This access caused many pranks, but most of us figured out how to undo them.
However, two coworkers liked to loaf too much. They were not technical and took the lab assistant job for easy money. They planned to be assigned to a remote classroom lab, which rarely had students needing help. They would sit around playing games on the PCs while the rest of us worked. This setup could not continue.
I rewrote code that runs when every user signs on. If the username matches one of these two AND the sign-in happens on a remote classroom PC during work hours, it checks an innocent network file. The file holds a few bytes showing how long it has been since this prank ran. This limits the trigger to once or twice a week. If it activates, a program launches. This program waits five to fifteen minutes at random, then shows an image of two guys 69ing on the monitor for a few seconds before rebooting the PC.
I tested the code. I put the compiled program in place and deleted the source. Much laughter followed for the next two semesters.

From u/CapaxInfini:
I can meow like a cat. I can do it so well that people often search for a cat that isn't there. This caused several funny moments where strangers ran around looking for the cat, and I watched from the side.
Stray cats usually stare at me for a few seconds then keep doing what they are doing. Pet cats often talk to me, especially if they are chatty.
