Exploring a haunted house is creepy, but a haunted cave is even worse. Caves have always been mysterious and frightening - dark, cold, and potentially home to scary creatures. They stretch underground for miles, with much left unexplored, leaving us wondering what's living in the darkness. The thought of being stuck underground is terrifying, especially when you can't see what's around you. The 2006 cult hit The Descent illustrates the unique horrors of spelunking, striking primal fears by trapping its audience in a claustrophobic environment with unknown creatures. Could man-eating cave dwellers or the spirits of lost explorers haunt these depths? Several caves are known for paranormal activity and are open to the public. This list includes some of the most haunted caves that you can visit - if you dare.

According tothe legend of the Bell Witchin1804, a farmer named John Bell moved his wife and kids to a farm along the Red River in northern Robertson County. The property held a cave called “The Bell Witch Cave,” believed to house the spirit of a witch named Kate Batts, who felt the Bells cheated her in the land purchase.
Strange animal sightings started in the summer of 1817. Late at night, the family heard odd noises, like knocking on doors and sounds along the walls outside the house. Sometimes, noises moved inside the home, including gnawing, choking, and dragging sounds. An unseen force caused vicious incidents for Betsy, the youngest Bell daughter, who got scratches, hair pulling, and physical beatings. John also choked and got sick until he died in 1820. After John died and Betsy canceled her engagement, the witch seemed to finish her work and went back to the cave for years.
She returned to the home in 1828, allegedly talking to John Bell Jr. and promising to return 107 years later. Locals reported paranormal activity near the witch cave and throughout the town during that time. However, many believe she never left.
Anyone who wants to see inside the Bell Witch Cave or the replica of the old Bell Cabin can do so through official tours during the day or night..

Horror author H.P. Lovecraft’s story “The Beast in the Cave” came from this creepy Kentucky cave system.Mammoth CaveThe cave is as big as its name suggests. It might be the largest haunted cave in the United States, covering about 400 miles of explored area. Much of the cave remains unseen. Evidence suggests prehistoric people started mining the cave as far back as 4,000 years ago. They later used it to bury their dead. This lasted 2,000 years before they suddenly left the cave.
Nobody knows what made them flee, but it might link to the many ghost sightings over later years. After the War of 1812, the caves sold for saltpeter mining, and enslaved people worked (and died) in them. Apparitions of deceased enslaved people are often reported.
In 1839, a doctor turned a cave section into a makeshift tuberculosis village. He thought the cave air's purity would fight infection and clean patients' lungs. Many died inside Mammoth; people still think they haunt it today.
The National Park Service offers many Mammoth Cave tours for every interest.
