When Marvel characters are adapted from the page to the screen, their relationships often change too. This can mean unexpected couples form, or fan-favorite pairs are split apart.

Thor has existed for millennia in the MCU and Marvel Comics. He has courted many lovers. Sif, the Enchantress, and Jane Foster were notable flames. Thor’s longest relationship this century involved Jennifer Walters, She-Hulk or Hulk.
Thor first became physically involved with Jennifer’s Hulk alter ego during a battle, sharing a heated makeout. The real connection between Jennifer’s sharp personality and Odinson grew slowly over months but became passionate. As Walters reconciled her two sides, she grew stronger toward her hammer-wielding partner. This fling, thought to end fast, continues and shows no sign of stopping soon.

Spider-Man has had good romantic partners despite his bad "Parker Luck." In the MCU, he courted Liz Toomes and Michelle "MJ" Jones. His comic girlfriends list includes Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, Betty Brant, and the Black Cat. Peter rarely dated other superheroes; his longest such fling involved an alumnus and Hawkeye’s ex-wife!Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.alumnus and Hawkeye’s ex-wife!
Barbara “Bobbi” Morse, a former Avenger and current S.H.I.E.L.D. operative using the codename Mockingbird, married Clint Barton. Their marriage ended due to comic book differences, including her long abduction by the Skrulls. Mockingbird left, later meeting Spidey at a similar life point, having lost her own marriage to Mephisto.
Bobbi and Peter started a fling during a mission. It quickly became a live-in relationship because Peter needed a place to stay after losing his finances. However, Bobbi and Peter saw their romance as a convenience. They realized they lacked much in common; this is even truer in the MCU, where Bobbi is at least ten years older.

In Marvel Comics, Wanda Maximoff's main romance was with the Vision. She married him for real, not within a self-made reality bubble, before tragedy separated them. Outside of the Vision, the Scarlet Witch usually dated Simon Williams, the former villain turned Hollywood Avenger whose brain patterns powered the Vision's personality.
Wanda Maximoff wanted Steve Rogers long before meeting him. After joining "Cap’s Kooky Quartet," Wanda developed a strong crush on Captain America. She never expressed these feelings, especially not to her controlling brother Pietro.
Years of trauma made the Scarlet Witch much more powerful. She lost control of her reality-altering powers and reality itself. Wanda acted on this, making a move on a single Rogers. Rogers returned the feeling. The two enjoyed short encounters. Wanda's complete madness ended these flings. She disassembled the Avengers, then the whole Marvel Universe.

Telling a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan that the Vision dated Ant-Man’s daughter after breaking up with the Scarlet Witch causes confusion. This is true, but it comes with serious limitations.
Cassie Lang grew into a teenager and a founding member of the Young Avengers. Vision, meanwhile, was fatally torn apart by She-Hulk during "Avengers: Disassembled."When a young Kang the Conqueror returned, he found the Vision's body. Jessica Jones struggled after failing in superheroism and facing abuse from the Purple Man. She drank heavily and had few physical encounters with former superhero Luke Cage. Her friend Carol Danvers set her up with Scott Lang, the second and popular Ant-Man.
Jones and Lang became friends, dating and staying at each other's places. Jessica soon found out she was three months pregnant with Luke’s baby. Scott reacted coolly, ending their romance. Luke Cage became Jessica’s permanent partner, and they married after their daughter, Danielle, was born.
Lang and Jones never met onscreen. The MCU's Netflix series has not crossed over with its main continuity yet.

Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan started in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as supporting characters: Tony Stark’s love interest and best friend. Marvel Comics early on showed a love triangle. Happy wanted Pepper, but Pepper could not win Tony Stark’s attention.

They divorced; Hogan returned to Stark Industries, and they reconciled just as tragedy struck during the Civil War.During the Civil War, the Spymaster tried to steal secrets from Stark Industries. Fans of the MCU and Marvel Comics know Thanos craves death. Long-time comic readers know he desires Death itself, the physical concept. The Mad Titan's genocidal acts stem mainly from wanting affection from Lady Death. She usually spurns him, pushing him toward another afterlife embodiment.
Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death, enters. After Balder, Thor's brother, took her throne, Hela allied with Thanos to win back Hel. Thanos and Hela swapped spit. Their combined forces could not beat the Odinsons. Thanos then dumped Hela before everyone and went back to chasing Death.

BetweenAnt-Man and the WaspandAvengers: EndgameTony Stark and Janet van Dyne never met. She was stuck in the Microverse; he was stuck in space. She turned to dust; he perished.
Marvel Comics tradition shows Tony and Janet are not just fellowfounding Avengers members; they dated multiple times. This happened after Janet separated from Hank Pym following his abuse. Stark and van Dyne, both fashion-focused socialites who liked parties, matched well. Their flighty nature kept the relationship short. Captain America suggested their romance hurt team morale, so they ended it.
Years later, as the 2020s started, Tony and Janet were far apart. Both worked for T’Challa. They rekindled their romance, supporting each other during Tony's evil brother Arno's uprising. This time, the spark faded. Both agreed it was time to move on; this was never an issue for either.

Mantis shows the biggest changes from Marvel Comics to Marvel Studios. InGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, she is an alien raised from her larval state to serve Ego the Living Planet. In classicAvengerscomics. However, she is an ordinary Vietnamese human. She was ordained as a “Celestial Madonna” at a young age. Alien cultists empowered and trained her.
Mantis became a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. That prophecy became unavoidable. The struggling Cotati, a plant-based sentient race, thought Mantis would birth the messiah restoring their people's honor. Mantis did not care; she already loved Jacques Duquesne.
Duquesne was a former circus showman and Hawkeye’s father figure. He became a supervillain, then found redemption with the Avengers. Duquesne died before they could marry. A Cotati member offered to absorb his essence, becoming a green Swordsman and marrying Mantis. The couple had a double wedding with Vision and Scarlet Witch. They gave birth to Sequoia soon after, fulfilling the Celestial Madonna prophecy.
This storyline might actually work better for the MCU's take on the character.

Captain MarvelCarol Danvers did not show much romantic attachment in her solo superhero films. This contrasts with her comic history. She had an on-again, off-again romance with James “War Machine” Rhodes. Their love was so strong, death could not end it.
The age gap between Brie Larson and Don Cheadle explains why this relationship might not transfer to the MCU. Carol and Rhodey shared on-page attraction. Both are famous pilots with US Armed Forces backgrounds. Both had to leave a close friend’s shadow to claim their superhero legacies.
Thanos killed James Rhodes. Rhodes returned. They reunited. Carol Danvers traveled to the future. There, she met Rhodes’ daughter, born to an unnamed mother. This meeting made Carol end the relationship. Carol and Rhodey parted amicably. Carol now dates Stephen Strange, a playboy, a fling that will not last long.

Marvel Studios surprised fans by pairing Natasha Romanoff with Bruce Banner, a character she barely connected with in comics. The Black Widow never loved the Hulk throughout her career. However, she held long relationships with three major MCU heroes: Bucky Barnes, Clint Barton, and Matt Murdock.
Natasha and Bucky started together as KGB assassins. Bucky was brainwashed and forgot much of the time. Later, when Bucky regained control, they tried again. That attempt failed.
After moving to North America, Romanoff seduced Barton, a former circus brat, into a life of costumed crime. Barton’s strong love won her over to superheroism after he joined the Avengers. Even after they broke up, she stayed with Hawkeye and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Black Widow's most meaningful relationship was with Murdock, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Black Widow and Daredevil lived together, fought for justice, and shared a comic book title. Bad luck with romance ended it; they became just work friends.

In the MCU, Sam Wilson shares a show with Bucky Barnes, his best frenemy. Comics show Sam and Bucky never became close. Sam spent time with another superhero with a metal arm: Misty Knight, his girlfriend and Netflix star.

Sam began dating Misty seriously after taking Captain America. Misty’s support helped Sam move past Steve Rogers’s shadow.
The two did not become official, so they drifted apart. Sam found comfort with Thor instead. Still, Thor and Misty stay close and sometimes have intimacy.

Billy Maximoff, Wanda and Vision’s son, debuted in the MCU alongside twin brother Tommy inWandaVision- or did he? Billy’s existence is doubtful. Marvel Comics showed his story starting like this: his mom’s powers brought him into being, only for him to be erased. The comic book Billy and Tommy were later 'reborn' into two different boys, who became founding members of the Young Avengers.
As Wiccan, Billy Kaplan continued his magic before knowing the Scarlet Witch was his mother. He formed an instant, unbreakable romance with Teddy Altman, another Young Avenger. Teddy was the forbidden son of Kree Captain Mar-Vell and a Skrull princess. Later, Hulkling used his dual heritage to join Kree and Skrull empires. Wiccan was his husband and official 'royal consort' during this union.
