From Redditor u/Bloodragedragon:
It happened to me. I was at my first middle school dance. I was always the shy kid, so I was surprised when a popular girl asked me to dance. I said no because I was shy, but I felt great about it. Minutes later, kids entered the bathroom stall. They talked about how they paid her ten dollars to ask me, and if I said yes, she would have tripped me and made me look silly.
I never went to another dance during middle school or high school. I did not go to prom either.

A friend had a crush on his coworker; this was an open secret. His manager tried to help him. The manager offered advice, suggested things to say, and mentioned small gifts she might like.
What no one knew then was that the manager and coworker had recently started dating and had not told anyone. So, he intended it as a 'prank' on his new girlfriend to put her in these awkward spots. However, my friend's feelings got really hurt when the truth came out.

Derren BrownDerren Brown is an English illusionist. He did a TV show a few years ago. He convinced a young man who had been very drunk the night before that he had killed a girl. They set him up badly.
Psychologically, it looked like they broke this poor man. Everything they set up—actors, sets, fake police—made the man so sure he killed someone that he handed himself over to the fake police station and admitted to a murder.
I will never forget the tear trickling down this kid's face as he saw what he thought he had done. Then, bloody Derren Brown appeared from behind a screen, saying, 'Surprise!'
It was cruel, and it has stayed with me for a long time.

In middle school, a girl approached us on the playground. She told this guy to, 'Go see the principal; he is looking for you—he got a call that your mom died.'
As soon as the guy ran away, she told us all she made it up.

My so-called friends had my mom drop me at a mall. We stayed until almost bedtime. This was when pagers existed. I asked my friends when we were going home because my mom had spoken to their mothers about someone dropping me off. Both my parents worked.
They told me their mom would pick them up from that door and I should go ahead of them. They left. I was a twelve-year-old kid lost in a mall with no parent.
Luckily, one of the school bullies saw me. He asked, 'Hey, nerd! What are you doing out so late?' I just broke down crying.
The kid stopped bullying, asking, "Oye, oye, oye...what happened?" My parents said I just talked a lot. He told me to wait until he found a phone, then he paged my dad while calling his mom to explain everything. The girls told their mom I saw my uncle and left with him.
Honestly, the bully and I became best friends.

My ex-wife left me a voicemail on April Fool's Day breaking up with me. She said she was filing for divorce and staying with her parents, not coming home. I did not realize it was April 1st. She went into meetings all day and forgot about it. She then ignored my calls, emails, and texts while trying to figure out what was happening.
She thought it was funny. She is a jerk. If I had been smart and knew what I know now, I would have been thankful and used that to get out.

A group of girls at my high school told a girl they were at one house at nine near a train station. They made up a time and place that would strand her at the last train stop, with no trains home.

The first time I met my brother's new girlfriend, she pulled me aside and started crying. She told me she was pregnant, but my brother was not ready to tell anyone. She asked me to check on him because he was very nervous.
A couple of days passed. I texted her to ask how she was and if my brother was okay and if they needed anything.
She asked what I meant. I said the baby. She replied:
"Oh, you believed me! I was only joking, I'm not pregnant! I can't believe you fell for that."
This woman was about 30, not some teenager. I told my brother. He still married her. Ten years later, I still don't trust her.

From Redditor u/CatastrophicHeadache:
We had a very bad year financially. I constantly struggled to pay bills. Christmas was especially hard.
On Christmas day, my brother-in-law gave my husband and me scratch tickets, a common family gift. I had only had them once or twice, so I was excited to scratch them. As I did, the weight lifted. The ticket won. It was a Christmas miracle. For the first time in a long time, I felt things might be okay. The ticket said I won $10,000. I was extremely happy.
My brother-in-law let me feel my relief and joy for a few minutes before telling me to look closer at the ticket. It was fake.
My joy ended. I held back tears while pretending to laugh. My troubles dropped back onto my shoulders with a heavy thump as my brother-in-law laughed. He laughed again, reliving the whole thing all day. I hated him then.
He probably told others the story. They called him a douche because he never brought it up, unlike I expected. He gave my husband some pranks to use, but I ruined them.
My husband never knew how hurt I was. I laughed and went along with the joke (and he lacks empathy).

Someone tipped over a port-a-potty with someone inside it.
I think it was his girlfriend.

A shy guy I knew from high school came to school talking about a girl he met online. He liked her a lot and wanted to meet. They set up a meeting at a local pizza place. The whole varsity football team showed up. They catfished him and broke his heart. They laughed at him and made fun of him on Facebook live.
I don't like admitting crimes here, but I will say this. The three main planners were the QB, running back, and a lineman. All three had college scholarships to good schools. None of the three played ball or went to college.
The shy kid is now married with two beautiful kids. The QB teaches gym at an elementary school; he is single. The running back moved to Indiana, and I know nothing about his life. The lineman now weighs 450 pounds of fat and works a call center; he is single.

I dated a guy near Los Angeles; I lived in Oceanside. There was a party around 9 p.m., so I took the train out and arrived at 8 p.m. Cell phones did not exist then. I used a pay phone to call him. He said he was going to the train station.
At 11 p.m., the trains stopped. I lacked money for a return ticket. He offered to drive me home and spend the next day with his mom in Oceanside. A security guard bought me a ticket home. By 1 a.m., I had many messages on my computer from him. He blocked me everywhere. He went straight to his mom's, and they both thought I was stupid.
To be fair, I was really stupid. The guy claimed he knew Trent Reznor.

A co-worker called and said my services were no longer needed. I believed it for a moment. I got upset on the phone, and my co-worker realized she needed to admit it was a joke. I did not find it funny.

From Redditor u/moderate_extremist:
My college roast for my buddy aimed for fun. My roommate instead targeted his ex-girlfriend throughout his speech, not our buddy. This became a drunken therapy session; he aired every personal aspect of their relationship to fifty people.
He finished the speech by tossing pairs of panties she left at his house into the crowd. She felt so ashamed she called the police. It became the most awkward party ever.

From Redditor u/32080:
I know a couple. The husband played the 'fake winner' ticket trick on his wife. Three years later, she secretly swapped the real tickets he put in her stocking with her own 'fake winner' tickets. She scratched them off and ripped up a $50,000 'winner' in front of him, saying he was playing that stupid joke again.
He panicked badly. He grabbed the ticket pieces, reassembled them, saw it was a 'winner,' and freaked out. He searched Google, looking up if ripped lottery tickets could be used. He basically cried. She let it go until he called a number on the back and saw the 'novelty' text.
