Near-death experiences vary from person to person. Some individuals clinically die, with their heart stopping, yet their body can still be revived. Many who nearly die report seeing nothingness or overwhelming blackness, feeling like they no longer exist. Others claim to see a light, travel through tunnels, or find themselves in fields. Some people see visions of heaven or hell, depending on their religious background. Despite differing experiences, these Reddit users' stories of dying and being resuscitated share a common thread: calmness and peace. Those who clinically died and came back may have unique stories, but they all experienced a significant chapter in their lives, one that typically comes at the end.

From jojewels92 :jojewels92:
"My uncle died in a motorcycle accident and was later revived. When he waited for the ambulance, a woman named Mary arrived and stayed. She told him everything would be fine and she would stay as long as he needed. He felt immense calm and peace; this woman made him warm and comfortable. He saw his surroundings and the truck driver who hit him."
No woman was present; he remained unconscious. After revival at the hospital, he felt his throat burn taking his first breath. He was not whole and kept asking for the woman.

"I have type 1 diabetes. My blood sugar dropped dangerously low (my normal range is 100-140; mine was 43). Low blood sugar can kill you, so I had a seizure in my mother's arms and essentially died. I was about five or six years old."
During the resuscitation, paramedics forced a Coke down my throat. I felt so disoriented I thought I was on a roller coaster. The place felt beautiful and calm, unlike my home filled with scared people (my mom, sister, and three strange men—the paramedics). Shifting from that beautiful place to the chaotic scene disturbed me, especially as a six-year-old who did not yet grasp death.

"I have had near-death experiences twice, neither time left me unconscious or in nothingness. During this time, I lost all personal identity. Upon waking, I felt a strange sensation of remembering my existence. This feeling is weird. I was not 'me' while blacked out, but I cannot name who I was. I can only say it felt like being on another plane of existence."

"The last thing I remember was being upside down in the air before the van hit the ground. It went from thinking I was dying to nothing. Everything went black. I had no feelings or thoughts. It was nothingness."
Nothingness scares people, but you do not know you existed. It is not painful or scary; you just stop existing. The interesting part is how fast it happens; you have no real idea what occurs. Things get weird during resuscitation. It moved from not knowing you existed to me seeing my girlfriend.

My mother and I were in a bad car crash. She went into cardiac arrest. Rescuers used paddles to resuscitate her. She told me she floated above her body. Then, she abruptly entered a tunnel. Suddenly, she heard my deceased uncle tell her she had to return, saying it was not her time yet. After he spoke, the tunnel sectioned off. She went down that fork and returned to her body.

"It's just a deep blackness like in a deep sleep. One moment you live your life. Then, you wake up in a hospital room four days later. Doctors tell you you had Ventricular Fibrillation. You lay on the floor without a pulse for about ten minutes before getting zapped twice."

From KrisBbG:
A coworker died twice and needed to be shocked back to life. He accidentally cut his femoral artery and lost a lot of blood. He said the pain hurt so much. All he remembers is the pain stopped, everything stopped. He felt time passed, but he cannot measure it. Then, he remembers screaming back to life during resuscitation. The pain was so bad he only wanted it gone. He slipped out one more time, and they shocked him again. He said that second time felt exactly like the first: painless and good.

The method, as I was told, was this: I went into v-fib then cardiac arrest. Luckily, I was already on a gurney in the ER.
The world faded to crimson and black nothingness. I went from feeling like I would explode to total calm. After a tiny amount of time, they brought me back, and the world returned. It felt like exiting a long tunnel at several hundred miles per hour. Right after that, I passed out for a while. I spent three days in the ICU.

From DanifC:
My dad had open-heart surgery in July. He died briefly on the operating table before they restarted his heart. He said he went to Hell while he was dead. It apparently involved many geometric shapes and mirrors leading to nothingness.
He just knew. It hit him. He had no doubt it was what it was.
He called it the worst thing imaginable. He lay on a hospital bed with unbearable pain, unable to move, trapped in this geometric eternity.

From -Avatar_Korra:
A good friend had a strange experience after a doctor gave her too much lithium.
She woke up in a field with her grandparents nearby. A ball of light, like the sun, spoke to her, which she saw as God. It told her she could stay in the afterlife or return, but she would face the results of lithium poisoning in her body; her immune system and thyroid were badly damaged. She chose to go back and woke up.

From TheBauhausCure:
I gave blood at my high school blood fair. I did not know I had Myasthenia Gravis, so I should not have. It lasted six hours. My brain shut down, I guess. I sat on a couch in a white room, watching television. It showed horrible memories of my life.
I just hope I have better memories to watch when it really happens.

Black. I felt sensation and brief flashes of the emergency room. There was no white light, no singing, no harps or hellfires, no relatives waiting. Black.

FromConvallari:
I was stabbed 32 times. I asked the surgeon and crew not to let me die. Then, blood loss caused tunnel vision while I fought the biggest adrenaline rush of my life. Thoughts popped into my head. I thought, 'I'm too young to go. I haven't done anything worthwhile. I am only 23. I had plans. My aunt will have to bury me.' An EMT asked for an emergency contact, and I gave him my aunt's number. I tried so much for nothing. That feeling of life wasted outweighed the fear of dying.
My senses left one by one quickly. Vision went first; touch was last. Then I felt like I was floating, not in any direction, just as if I was suspended in the dark. It felt like a candle flame being snuffed out by lack of oxygen.Poof- gone. I do not remember anything from then until I woke up. There were about three days of nothing.

I lay in some tube when I woke up. I did not know where I was or what happened. I could breathe, but it felt like I could not get air. When I tried to move, I panicked because I was strapped to a bed. Seconds later, I felt life leave my arms and legs. It felt like someone was disconnecting every limb, organ, and vein from my body. Just before I lost hearing, I heard people shouting medical terms and my father's voice, crying for help and screaming for someone to save his son. After that, I had a moment of darkness and rest. Everything vanished. Then I only remember waking up to a doctor's voice an eternity later.

Fromsw4400:
A few months ago, my mom had major issues, a mix of a mild stroke and heart attack. To fix her heart, they had to stop it for a time. This is what she says happened.
She stood on a cliff face under a cloudy, stormy sky as the sun set. People, including family and friends who had died, stopped her from walking to the edge. They formed a line, like playing Red Rover. Everyone spoke to her, but she kept silent. After everyone finished, she wanted to watch the sunset. An older version of her sister's child asked to play. My mom pushed her to agree. As they played, the world grew green, the sun rose, and the storm cleared. After what felt like hours, she returned to her body.
