Description of 'He Happily Discussed Finding Human Remains In A River' in the list 'People Reveal Times They Thought They Were Talking To A Serial Killer'TheDeadGunslinger:

When I worked retail, a regular guy came in. He seemed strange, but I thought he was just awkward. He told me about the deceased escorts who used to find bodies in the river. This happened in a city near us. He sounded almost happy talking about it.

My car broke down on a deserted road. I called our AAA service; they said an hour. I accepted. I sat in the car with the flashers on. Soon, another car appeared, pulled up next to me, and started talking. He said he was a mechanic and could fix it. He needed to go to his house for tools first. He seemed really cool then; we just chatted about what was wrong.

I told him AAA was coming soon and would help. He got more intense, telling me to get in the car and come along quickly. He told me to get in the back seat. I said no. He pushed harder, telling me to get in. I refused.

The guy started acting strange. He pulled at his hair, slammed his hands on the steering wheel, and swore a lot. He still wanted me in his car. He opened his door and got out. I locked my door from the inside and rolled up the window. He tried to open my door, screaming at me to let him help with the car.

Two more headlights appeared in the rearview mirror, and AAA arrived. The guy quickly got into his car and sped away. The AAA driver turned on his floodlights to light the area. He got out and walked toward me. He asked if everything was okay and if he should change the tire. I told him what tire. The engine kept cutting out; the tire was fine, I replied. The guy had cut both my passenger-side tires. I shuddered thinking about what else could have happened.

This person smashed the head of a possum other people were feeding on and enjoying. Then they laughed about it. They really wanted to hurt animals.

The person could be charming, then suddenly their behavior escalated without warning. I will see them on the news someday; I know it.

I met a guy at my favorite bar drinking alone. I thought I would talk to him while waiting for my friends to arrive.

He shifted the talk to genocide. He tried to explain why it was a good idea and how the world would improve if some people were eliminated.

I tried to end the conversation fast. No one should talk about that topic so much when they are alone at a bar.

A high schooler met a kid at summer camp who liked killing animals. He stepped on frogs and spiders; he took out salamanders. He got into trouble for killing a turtle we found. Nobody liked him; he was not very nice. That open enjoyment of suffering really unsettled me. People thought he would become a serial killer.

A teenager asked if I fantasized about killing someone. I said, “Only if they chew loudly.” She replied, “I do, to everyone I meet. Do you want to know how you’d go?”

At one family reunion, a distant cousin brought a friend. The two were going on vacation, and the reunion was on the way. Bringing an extra, unrelated person was not unusual.

The guy took many photos of everyone. He kept mumbling that his friends back home would not believe he met "so many beautiful people." He asked people to stand up for photos. He asked for pictures with just the men. He did tons of these. This happened around 2000. He used an actual camera. He did not offer to send anyone the photos later. This guy was very unsettling. I still wonder what he did with all those photos.

This guy visited the place I worked. He was an ex-Navy Seal. He gave off a creepy, short-tempered vibe. He was friends with my boss. He told him stories about "clearing oil rigs in the Gulf War." He said he would take their kneecaps out and then blast their heads when they fell. He liked telling people about it.

He would disappear and ghost my boss for months. Then he would return, claiming he was away "on business." He walked around his neighborhood after hurricanes in Florida with a sidearm to "stop looters." He was creepy. Bad vibes. Weird stories.

An Uber driver picked me up and parked oddly so I could not see the license plate. I saw the Uber tags on the windshield. Still, I checked the license plate before getting in. This guy praised me for not being "dumb." Then he told me I was lucky—unlike the multiple girls he told me about who were taken and slain by getting into the wrong Uber. He said it all casually, like we were talking about the weather.

I felt unsafe. I called someone and sent them my location because I feared being taken. I made him drop me off a street away because I was scared he would see where I lived.

Long ago, I had my German Shepherd, six months old, in the back seat. We drove home from a dog training class. It was dark, with no streetlights. My car sputtered. I knew the fuel filter had a problem. I needed to pull over for a few minutes to fix it and get home.

A black car drove by. It slowed, turned around, drove by again, turned around, and stopped right in front of mine. I locked every door. He approached my car, trying to convince me to get into his car to "take me to a phone" (I didn't have a cell phone yet). I told him no; my car would be fine soon. He kept pushing to get me out.

My dog, just finding her big-girl voice, lunged at the window from the back seat. She barked the German Shepherd "don’t f*ck with my human." The man raised his hands, backed away, got into his car, and left. After that, my dog joined me on long trips or when I knew I’d be alone after dark. She saved my life that night.

As an actor, I see a strange thing happen on one-day jobs. You learn about people fast. This acts as a defense. You get bored when stuck on set for eight to ten or twelve hours.

I was on a short film, playing a minor frat pledge. I was with other "pledges" when I had a wild talk. We were friends now, maybe because the guy was crazy.

“...and just like dogs, they can’t feel pain.”

    “I... don’t think that’s accurate.”

“No, they are not like humans. They do not really FEEL pain.”

“I am pretty sure they can...”

“No, but like, you can pretty much do whatever you want to them. My friends and I would wrestle their dog, and you can throw or body slam them; they’re fine.”

Everyone side-eyed hard at this point. Either the guy was a serial killer or the future founder of the World Dog Wrestling Federation.

[I once knew a] boy who played nasty to one person and fake-cute to another. He switched instantly. I saw his nasty face, but everyone saw him as sweet. I hope I never see him again. Seeing Ted Bundy video footage reminded me of that boy. He must be an adult now. I wonder what happened to him.

I hugged a serial killer. She made me a birthday cake.

She visited the nursing home where I work often. She was elderly and had a boyfriend there. She was a sweet lady. She always cared about the residents and staff and people liked her. Two women in the area were found dead. They staged it to look like suicide, but our chief of police, Bubba, doubted it. He knew the ladies; it did not make sense. Both women were members of the auxiliary. Both were very active. Both were single and in their fifties.

This little lady used her connections to get close to them just to take their lives. She even cooked for their funeral receptions. After she was arrested, they linked her to at least six more 'possible self-inflicted ends' in places she lived. Thinking about it gives me chills.

    Redditor /u/GladioliWarrior.:

I think my old manager might have been a serial something.

The old manager at my previous job gave me a bad feeling the first time I met him. I was the only one who felt uneasy about him. I hated being around him and hated talking to him. Everyone knew this and mocked me for it. Then my coworker joined because we worked nights with him, and he would come into the salon and talk to us. He made strange comments about older women and how... unreasonable they were. You sensed he hated women.

The grooming salon had strong-willed women, so he got angry with us often. My coworker and I bet on what kind of messed-up things he did outside work. I always suspected he hurt his wife. We even planned a list of his comments for HR because they made us uncomfortable.

One day, he worked past his shift and stayed in the back stocking things. The next thing I knew, another manager came in and told us he was escorted out by four or five police officers. No one knew what happened, and his car stayed there for days. We looked up his name and found his mugshot. He was caught with explicit material involving children and other charges in several counties. No one doubted my feeling after that; I still think he is guilty of more.

I work in a school for kids with behavioral issues. Some kids have done bad things, but one scared me. He was charming at first. He was good at getting authority figures to like him. For the first few months, the principal believed he was an angel who should not be there.

He bragged about beating his mom and violating younger girls when he thought teachers and staff ignored him. His stunts grew worse. He tried to trap a female history teacher in a room; he put staples and metal pieces in the school psychologist’s coffee.

The proof was how he changed when he disliked someone. His eyes lost color, and he stared, trying to scare you. He acted like a shark.

He is about to graduate. I expect he will escalate and hurt someone, if he has not already.
