Ways To Prove Earth Is Round

About this list

Some celebrities have recently promoted the idea that the earth is flat, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Pictures from space, accounts from individuals who have orbited the earth, and flights around the world all confirm the earth is round. For those who need to see it to believe it, there are ways to prove the earth's shape without going to space. You can debunk flat-earth theories right here on our planet - some methods can be done in your backyard, while others require more investment. These approaches should help show that our planet is a globe. While some flat-earthers may be impossible to convince, trying these methods can still be an interesting experiment. Not everyone can be an astronaut, but that doesn't mean you can't explore the earth's shape for yourself.

You Can Watch A Ship Sail Away

Stand on the beach. Watch ships sail away. They shrink into the distance. This action proves the Earth is not flat.If the Earth were flat,The ship would get farther and farther away. You would stop seeing it. But ships on the horizon act differently. They start to sink below the waves. They shrink and dip past view. This happensbecause the Earth is curvedThis shows 'You Can Watch A Ship Sail Away' in 'Ways To Prove Earth Is Round'.

The ocean's smoothness lets you see far. You can watch ships move over the curve away. This shows the Earth's shape, even though it seems small.

Call Up Someone In A Different Time Zone

If the Earth were flat, time would be the same everywhere. The sun might appear in a different sky area. Still, it would remain day for everyone until the sun moved off the flat Earth.we have time zonesThese zones mean times differ across the country and the world. Call New York from San Francisco. They tell you they are three hours ahead. If you call late afternoon, they report the sun is already setting in New York!

This would not happen if the world were flat, because the sun would set at the same time for everyone.

Figure Out When The Next Eclipse Is

You may not see an eclipse as great as the one in 2017. But find the next lunar eclipse. This proves the Earth is round. A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth blocks the Sun from the Moon. This casts a shadow on the Moon. That shadow shows the Earth's shape.

Some flat-earthers accept the Earth spins. But if it spins,an eclipse sometimes looks like a flat, shadowy line, not a perfect circle. This shows the Earth is not only round but a sphere.

    You Can Go Stargazing

Enjoy looking at the stars at night. This relaxing time proves the Earth is round to non-believers.

Time of night affects stargazing.you see several different constellations. These star formations might still hold if the Earth was flat and just spinning. However, the constellations change based on your location. Travel from the northern to the southern hemisphere, andyou will see star patterns you cannot see back homeSome constellations show different angles. The Big Dipper appears somewhat...The 'You Can Go Stargazing' method shows the upside-down view.changes as you move from one hemisphere to the other.

If the earth were flat, everyone would see the same constellations. People who have traveled know this is not the case.

    Take A Long Distance Flight

Most of us cannot afford space travel. Some can afford the next best thing: an around-the-world flight. Some planes offer fully global flights. These planes make fully global flights. This proves the earth is round. Start at one airport, fly a straight line, and end up at that same airport. You never fall off the edge. You end up at that same airport. You never fall off the edge.

Also, this lets you see the world's curve. Long-distance flights, like trans-Atlantic ones, let you see the horizon from high up with little visual blocking. You see the horizon is curved. This curve lets you literally...You can see this by taking a long distance flight.that the world is round.

    Build Your Own Weather Balloon

You wonder why you cannot see this curve from the ground? You are too close. Get perspective. You can do this with a weather balloon. You can do that with a weather balloon..

This costs money. You can help local colleges or programs set up the project if you do not want to pay all the cash.Weather balloons often go higher than any airplane. They carry cameras to film the earth from the upper atmosphere. With current technology, you may not track the balloon after it lands for the footage.to get the footage! Just watch the video or check photos of the horizon as the balloon rises. The higher it goes, the more you see the earth's curve.

    Check Out Some Other Planets

Looking at other planets proves the earth is a sphere. Observe Jupiter with a telescope. You see it is round and spinning. If other planets are round and spin, what makes us different?

Other planets and bodies let us photograph our planet. These photos show our planet is round, a sphere. Planets are only seen in certain areas at certain times. This shows the earth cannot be flat. The earth cannot possibly be flat by checking out some other planets., or we would see Mars and Jupiter on the same night from any location.

Watch Your Shadow Grow And Shrink

Shadows shift daily; they get shorter as the sun moves. Objects in different spots cast different shadows too! A flat world means objects would cast identical shadows because incoming sun rays remain parallel.Incoming sun rays stay parallel.Test this in your yard. You need a friend a few miles away to try it with you.

Place a stick upright in your yard and measure its shadow. Ask a friend to use a stick of the same size and measure its shadow. You will find the shadow lengths differ.Shadow lengths differ. The Earth's spherical shape causes the sun to hit objects differently based on your location on the globe, even if you are only ten miles apart.

Take A Look At How Hurricanes Work

Hurricanes prove our planet is round. A Northern hemisphere hurricane always has winds blowing counter-clockwise.Winds always blow counter-clockwise.You see this on the weather channel. If you are in a hurricane, use a compass. Note the wind direction. Southern hemisphere hurricanes spin clockwise!

This is the Coriolis effect. The Earth's spin changes wind direction. The Earth spins fastest at the equator. The Earth spins fastest because it has more distance to travel around. Storms above the equator spin counter-clockwise. They move from a fast-spin area to a slower-spin area. A southern hurricane moves in the opposite direction, because our planet spins.

Check Out This Neat Thing Called Gravity

Flat-earthers reject gravity because it shows the world is round. Gravity means objects pull toward each other. The massive Earth pulls us all; that is why things fall. Because Earth is a sphere, we feel the same pull toward the center of mass everywhere. A flat Earth lacks a consistent center of mass. This means we would weigh less near the edge. You weigh the same at home as in another country.

A flat plane means dropped objects fall toward the center, not straight down like on a sphere. Dropping an orange or apple shows it falls straight down. The world is not a flat plane.

    Just Climb A Damn Tree

If other methods fail, try this last way to prove the Earth is round. We cannot see the Earth's curve from the ground, but we can prove it exists by comparing what we see from the ground to what we see from a higher spot.

To see this work, find a very flat, empty area with a tall tree or tower in the middle. Use binoculars. Look far through them at something you can barely see. Then, climb the tree or tower and look at that area again through the binoculars. You will likely see farther and see past the object you couldn't see before. You get away from the surface, and this changes how far you can see, even if you cannot see the Earth's curve. A flat Earth would show you the same thing.

The result is clear: The Earth is a round, spinning planet. You do not need to go into space to know this.
