All Star Wars References In Rogue One

About this list

Rogue One packs deep cuts referencing the original Star Wars film series and prequels. The writers and director clearly know the Star Wars universe inside out. They even made a horror film within the Star Wars canon. Many Rogue One easter eggs remind audiences that A New Hope follows chronologically, and things will soon look up for the Rebels. Some onscreen characters are mind-blowing. Disney's purchase of the series led many fans to assume the prequels would never be referenced again - but Rogue One proves that wrong. As the first Star Wars Story, it makes sense that many references hint at A New Hope. Rogue One also nods to The Clone Wars series and novelizations, dropping hints throughout. Beware: these references get spoilery, so proceed with caution if you haven't seen the film.

Everyone Is Quoting the Original Series

Two major moments in the film feature characters dropping famous Star Wars quotes. On Yavin IV, characters share lines. During the moments before the final battle on Scarif, characters also drop quotes. A Mon Calamari soldier, who resembles Admiral Ackbar, tells the Rebellion members Galen Erso's message is "a trap." Before Jyn, Cassian, and K-2SO enter the Imperial base, K-2 states he "has a bad feeling about this." A "that's no moon" quote could have created an original series hat trick.
