Men often lack understanding of the makeup industry and women's reasons for using cosmetics, yet feel entitled to comment on it, sometimes coming across as condescending or oblivious, but women are now sharing their experiences of rude comments on Reddit.

From a Facebook commenterFacebook commenter:
"You know you don't even look good with all that makeup on and it's just going to give you acne, not like you don't already have it anyways..." A random stranger at the mall...

From a Facebook commenter:
"You look like a hooker." (I was 14 and wearing winged eyeliner and mascara.)
'You shouldn’t wear so much makeup, guys think you're slutty when you do.'
'You look so stupid with all that makeup, why are you looking for attention?'39 - 3
From killjoytrash:
"I've had someone tell me that my dark lipstick was "unladylike and unbecoming" of me. Like?? I don't wear this sh*t to be ladylike, I wear it because I frick fracking like it."
35 - 4
From weepingreading:
"Today I had a wedding to attend and wore my regular face of makeup, with a light pink lipstick and neutral eyes. To be perfectly honest, it wasn't much makeup and was just a light, summery look. However, a wedding guest (that I don't even know!) said "wow, you wear a LOT of makeup. You would look so much better without any!"
ACTUALLY, NO. When I don't wear makeup, I get told I look tired, I get asked if I've slept, or people ask why I'm not wearing makeup. I don't mind not wearing makeup (and I don't often when studying), but it's so frustrating that people say little things about makeup.

From F*ck_Weyland_Yutani:
"I have to assume that my black lipstick played a large role in a woman leaving a note on my car which read "You need Jesus in your life <3." It was not appreciated."
29 - 6
From baileyls:
"I did makeup for a friend's bridal party and at the end, the mother of the flower girl came up and asked if I would mind putting a little makeup on her little girl for fun. I said of course, and when I opened my trunk, I got "Wow, you obviously don't have kids!" and "You must have a lot of time on your hands." It just came off as condescending, like makeup is just a silly little hobby I use to fill my time. No."
29 - 7
From Filmflume:
"Make up means you aren't comfortable in your own skin."
Actually, my skin is better since I started using more makeup, since I am more careful about washing my face and moisturizing. Also, as I see it, it allows me to have an extra 20-30 minutes a day to focus on myself and engage in some self-care. So get outta here with that nonsense!

From a Facebook commenter:
"I prefer women to look natural."
I prefer men to remember that their opinions mean very little in regards to my personal choices.27 - 9
From pikachuuuuu:
"I've heard of people complaining makeup is "false advertising" [and] that people are lying and tricking people about their looks with it. "Take your girl swimming on a first date so you can see what she looks like without makeup..."
The best response I've heard to this was something along the lines of "If you truly believe someone has metallic gold eyelids you deserve it."

From DramaticGurl83:
"My mom loves makeup, maybe more than I do. But she thinks I take too long applying it because I aim for perfection. So she always asks if I'm going out to find a boyfriend. I brush it off. Truthfully, I find it annoying. I never put on makeup to impress guys. I put it on to impress myself."
19 - 11
From temptalia:
"When people say a color suits only Halloween or ask, "How could that look good on anyone?" when I wear a non-traditional color."
16 - 12
From weepingreading:
"I never get why people say "You look different with makeup on" or "You look like a different person with makeup on." Duh! Do you think I spend $28 on concealer, $50 on foundation, and $38 on a bomb highlight just to look the same as when I started?"
People suck sometimes.
15 - 13
From almaupsides:
"Wearing black lipstick a lot earned me that comment. Men on the street shouted that it makes me look angry and I should smile. No way."
15 - 14
From clearlyalex:
"The most annoying comment I get is, "You look the same with or without makeup. I don't know why you even bother."
I understand that people think that's a compliment, but I don't wear makeup because of how I look. It's a form of self-care for me.
15 - 15
From K8eCastle:
"I used to wear black eyeliner on my waterline daily. A guy friend called it drug dealer makeup. I stopped wearing it one day. The first thing he said was, "Are you okay? You look exhausted." I don't care what he thinks about my makeup."
13 - 16
From snakes_eye:
"One time I wore Bite's Kale and my friend's mom told me I looked poisoned. People must stop believing all makeup needs to be conventionally pretty. It is just for fun."
11 - 17
From a Facebook commenter:
"Some say my foundation makes me look like a ghost. I know my foundation is light, but gosh."
