Serial killers often target victims with similar characteristics, such as age, sex, or appearance, as they subconsciously address past psychic damage. This repetition is evident in the patterns of famous serial killers, who typically murder the same types of victims repeatedly. The selection process is rooted in their subconscious attempt to resolve past injuries or traumas, leading them to seek out common traits in their victims.

Rogers traveled across the country from 1993 to 1995, leaving death and violence behind him. Victims appeared in California, Kentucky, Mississippi, Florida, Ohio, and Louisiana.
Rogers's method was simple. He hung out in a dive bar. He bought drinks for anyone he liked. Then, he asked one of these women for a ride to his motel or apartment. Rogers had long hair and a beard then. Women who agreed to take him home found him very attractive.
Rogers vanished after his victims were missed. He usually left in a stolen car, thousands of miles from the crime scene. Rogers claims he killed up to 70 victims.Victims included OJ Simpson's wife Nicole.Rogers is linked to the deaths of four women. All these women had red or strawberry blonde hair. Many found in water-filled bathtubs.
Rogers's psychological issue seems simple. His mother was a redhead.
Rogers remains on death row in Florida, despite several attempts to execute him.

Aileen Wuornos.Aileen Wuornos did not have a promising background. Her mother was 14 when she married her father, a schizophrenic child molester who hanged himself in prison. Aileen became pregnant in her early teens. Her grandfather sexually abused her. She was homeless in her early 20s. She survived by hitchhiking across the country and working in prostitution. In 1987, she moved in with her female girlfriend in Florida and supported them through prostitution.
In late 1989, Aileen started a new way to earn money. She would lure male johns. Then, she would rob and shoot them. During the media coverage of her trial and execution, Aileen...she stated. She said, "I killed those men, robbed them as cold as ice. And I'd do it again, too."
Anger from years as a prostitute seems to drive Wuornos's victim choice. In an unlikely casting, Charlize Theron won an Academy Award for playing Wuornos in the film "Monster".Aileen Wuornos murdered a male Johns who tried to solicit her.Theron won the Academy Award for "Monster" in 2003.

Edmund Kemper.Edmund Kemper is not a standard serial killer. He stood 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighed 300 pounds. His IQ was 136. He murdered his grandparents at age 15. He was released from a California psychiatric hospital by age 21. This shows he was a very persuasive and manipulative person.
Unfortunately, in 1969, the hospital released him to his mother, Clarnell Kemper. Clarnell was an abusive, domineering woman. Edmund's father divorced this woman. At the time, Edmund's father said, "Suicide missions in wartime and the later atomic bomb testings were nothing compared to living with [Clarnell]."
Edmund and his alcoholic mother, who had borderline personality disorder, started vicious screaming matches heard by neighbors. He left his mother's home in Aptos, CA, but later returned.
Mid-1972, Kemper saw many attractive female college co-eds hitchhiking nearby. He loaded his Ford Galaxie with knives, plastic bags, blankets, and handcuffs. Initially, Kemper just picked up hitchhikers and dropped them off without harm, practicing. In nine months, Kemper murdered seven hitchhiking co-eds, engaging in necrophilia and dismembering the bodies. He left the remains in plastic bags in remote spots. Most times, Kemper killed a girl right after fighting with his mother.
Finally, on April 20, 1973, his mother, the real target of his anger, pushed him to murder her and horribly mutilate her body. He then invited his mother's best friend over for dinner, killed her, and drove away. He left a note, thinking the police would find the bodies fast. They did not, so he called from pay phones but could not get anyone to believe him. An officer who knew him spoke to him, and he was then arrested in Colorado.
Convicted ofeight counts of first-degree murder, Kemper received a life sentence. He serves it now at the California Medical Facility, which treats those considered dangerously mentally ill, an assessment Kemper deserves.

Although his victims spanned ages from 12 to their late twenties, they were allyoung women with brown hair, and specifically,a middle part. Ann Rule, a journalist close to Bundy, suggests Bundy picked this style because his killings started after he was rejected by his first girlfriend, Stephanie Brooks, who looked like his victims.
Bundy had a high IQ and played with careful killing methods. He studied where he could take and dispose of victims, purposely avoiding leaving physical proof. His method involved blunt force trauma and strangulation. Bundyusually lured victims by making them wear a cast or sling, or using crutches and asking for help moving something to his car.

Joji Obara was a Korean national born Kim Song Jon. He legally changed his name to Joji Obara at age 21. After getting his father's money, Obara bought real estate, but it failed during a recession. He then started washing money for the Japanese underworld.
Obara liked Western women a lot. He got involved in the Tokyo "hostess" scene. This culture let men drink cocktails and talk nicely with Western women. These "hostesses" often socialized with their "dates" outside their clubs. This was how hostesses kept their customers. Obara eventually invited many "hostesses" and other women to his apartment. There, he drugged and raped them, often waking up with no memory of the events.
Obara used chloroform and "date rape" drugs like rohypnol. These drugs induced a deep state of unconsciousness.Obara often filmed his victims during the crimes. Police found over 400 videos of him molesting women while they were unconscious. Chloroform can kill if used wrong. Lucie Blackman from Great Britain and Carita Ridgway from Australia died from their encounters with Obara.
Obara raped about 400 women. He probably murdered other women too. His trial, followed by those in the UK and Japan, gave him a life sentence. This exposed the West to Japan's odd court system.

Juan Corona worked as a farm labor contractor in Yuba City, California, during the early 1970s. Corona supplied the farm with migrant workers needed for the crops. He supplied a large farm with the migrant workers needed for the property's crops. Thousands of migrants moved to the area, especially in summer and fall. Corona drove his truck to any roadside; eager workers jumped in. Corona took them to housing on the ranch and then got to know them. He chose the most alcoholic, rootless, or vulnerable individuals for murder.
Corona acted methodically, which caused his downfall. One evening, a peach farmer saw a large hole in his orchard. The next day, the hole was filled. Police got involved, and they pulled a murder victim named Kenneth Whitacre from the hole. A machete had split his head open after he had been sexually assaulted and stabbed.
More graves came to light later. Paperwork and receipts linked the dead bodies to "Juan V. Corona." Police finished their investigation after exhuming 25 migrant workers from graves, many connected to Corona.
Corona committed most of these crimes in just six weeks; he was brazen and murderous. A judge convicted him in January 1973. Since California lacked the death penalty then, Corona received a life sentence. Corona faced an attack and nearly died in prison in 1973. A new trial allowed him to be convicted again in 1982. Corona, one of America's most shocking serial murderers, is now mostly forgotten.

Randy KraftRandy Kraft is a serial murderer linked to over 60 deaths, mostly in Southern California. He targeted young male hitchhikers. He frequently targeted Marines. He also targeted patrons at gay bars he visited.
Randy Kraft focused on these two types of people for a specific reason. Kraft made his victims drink alcohol when they got into his car. Unbeknownst to the passenger, the drink contained a large amount of Valium and other depressants. These substances quickly made the victim helpless and unconscious. Kraft then drove his victim to his home or a remote spot. There, he subjected them to horrific torture and sexual abuse, killed them by strangulation, and dumped the bodies along Southern California freeways. Kraft also killed people in Oregon, dropping their bodies on Interstate 5.
In 1975, Police questioned Kraft.Regarding the murder of a 19-year-old hitchhiker, the Los Angeles DA's office refused to pursue the case. They claimed they could not link the body to Kraft, so he avoided prosecution.
Eight years later, police could connect Kraft to another murder more easily. They pulled Kraft over for drunk driving suspicion and found a body in his car's passenger seat. In the back, they found over 50 Polaroids of victims. The trunk held a binder with a coded scorecard of over 60 cryptic entries. California stopped prosecuting Kraft after he received 16 death sentences, knowing this would only extend his appeals. Kraft sued a writer for $62 million for "smearing his good name" while on death row. The case ended, but the writer still had to pay thousands in legal fees.

Serial killers often target attractive women because that reason seems obvious.Christopher WilderWilder did not just seek attractive women; his victims were exceptionally beautiful.
Wilder's first victim was an auto racing model he met at the Miami Grand Prix while driving his Porsche 911. His second victim was a Miss Florida finalist and his former girlfriend. Then, something seemed to break in Wilder. He began a six-week murder spree that caused eight more deaths..The common feature among all these women was their exceptional looks.
Wilder used a professional photographer to attract female victims. One girl, 16-year-old Tina Risico, even helped him after he assaulted her. She accompanied him from Southern California to Boston and helped him abduct two victims. He drove Risico to Logan Airport and bought her a ticket home. He then tried to flee to Canada, unsuccessfully trying to abduct a young woman on April 13, 1984, while passing through Beverly, MA.
When Wilder stopped for gas in Colebrook, NH, two New Hampshire state troopers confronted him and shot him dead during the gunfight.
Wilder faced suspicion for many rapes and murders in his home country, Australia. He never successfully prosecuted for sexual assaults in the US before his six-week spree started. He left an estate worth millions, from a successful construction business. The money was divided among the families of his victims.of his victims. He killed his victims.
