    From Redditoru/WisconsinRedBadger:

I am a freshman at UW-Madison. Three weeks ago, break ended. My family lives far, so I stayed in Madison and worked during break. My girlfriend is from here and stayed over. Before my roommate left, we cleaned the dorm. I vacuumed, wiped dust, sanitized everything, and washed all sheets and bedding. I thought this was good. My room was clean, and I did not fear guests coming.

My girlfriend's friend and significant other came over and stayed in my dorm most nights. We got very drunk. Since my roommate was gone, I gave permission for my girlfriend's partners to sleep in my roommate's bed. I had a roommate agreement, and this was not in the contract, so I felt fine.

My roommate returned and panicked when he saw his sheets were dirty and his bed was unmade. He first asked if we were robbed. I said no; I let my girlfriend's friends sleep there. He got upset, saying that was wrong. I told him he should have included it in the agreement; it was not my issue. He got the RA involved and made a scene. The RA says I might have to move, even though he is the one causing trouble. We are not speaking now. I tried to be fair and explain why he was wrong, but he refuses to talk and ignores me. He acts very immature. AITA?

    From Redditoru/Awkward-Horse:

My girlfriend and I are in college. Spring break approaches. I must do a trial job during break, so I cannot travel. This matters because it could set up my job after college. She is upset I cannot go on a trip. She wanted just us to go somewhere nice. Now she wants to go with this group of friends (me and her). This is where things get tricky. I did not demand, but I told her I would feel uncomfortable with her going on a co-ed spring break trip without me. I said I do not distrust anyone, and the guys are somewhat nerdy, but the whole situation makes me feel odd. She suggests I tell my job I want to enjoy my last spring break, and she would like to be with me. But if I do not go, she will act however she wants with her friends.

    Aita?

    From Redditoru/thisismyworkpassword:

    This happened at spring break.

My family had a huge reunion at Disney Land this year. We lost the last few days because of the shutdown. Fourteen cousins in my generation attended. We have forty-two kids total; my sister adopted six, counting toward that number. Every one of the thirty-six biological children looks almost exactly like my grandpa. His genes strongly passed on his appearance. They all share blonde hair, freckles on the nose and cheeks, a cleft chin, and small, pointy noses.

I love my sister's kids. I love them since she adopted them or fostered them, and we treat them like all the other kids. Three kids are from Syria, one from Senegal, one from Bulgaria, and one from Vietnam. They do not look like the other cousins, but we love them equally.

I wanted one picture showing all the biological cousins to show how much they resembled each other. We took hundreds of photos of every combination: all boys, all girls, all teens, all toddlers, all first graders, etc. I found nothing different in wanting a picture of just the kids who looked alike.

My sister had a meltdown. She accused me of being racist and exclusionary. I tried to explain that we took dozens of photos of all forty-two together. This was a chance to show how much the second generation looked alike. Several cousins agreed with her. She caused a huge scene. This fight has lasted six weeks. If we just took the picture, the issue would end.

I saw my sister again yesterday. She made another big deal about how much of an asshole I was.

    Was I?

    From Redditoru/gma0703:

I went on Spring Break with my girlfriend’s friends last week. We went out at night several times. One friend has a boyfriend who went elsewhere for the week. At a bar one night, the friend got tipsy. On the dance floor, I saw her move with five or more guys. She did not grind hard, but the men had hands on her hips, and she moved back and forth.

My girlfriend and I pulled her off every time. She always thanked us for pulling her off. But she never resisted when a new guy tried to start grinding. Both my girlfriend and I would consider it cheating if we found out the other had ground with someone.

So, what should I text her boyfriend? I could say, "Hey, I don’t know if this is an issue for you, but I saw [the friend] grinding with a few guys when we went on Spring Break."

Edit: I have met the friend’s boyfriend, but only hung out two or three times.

    From Redditoru/RoLandaMamba:

I married my husband from a poor, third-world country. We live in the US, hold good jobs, and enjoy a comfortable life with our two young daughters, ages five and seven. I work hard to save and travel; this is our family's focus. We lack wealth, but we value experiences over possessions. We have seen several continents with the kids and plan a trip to Mexico this Spring Break.

My husband has a sister. We became guardians two years ago. She is now a high school senior. I brought her from her country to live with us so she could have a better future. This changed things: our two daughters now share a room. We have family dinners five people every night. I advocate for her, getting her into a good high school, finding counseling for her past trauma, setting up homework structure, a chore chart with allowance, driver's ed, doctor visits, and university planning. Last year, I paid for her six-week trip back to her country.country to visitI am bringing her with us for Christmas this year while we visit my parents in Arizona. She will have a three-week fun trip at a resort location with the rest of us. I told her several times to get a part-time job to cover gas costs when she drives (we provide the car free) and other things she might want, like makeup or travel plans after high school. She has not done this yet, even though she says she wants to.

So, AITA? We plan a Spring Break trip to Mexico, and it costs money. I told my husband I am fine with his sister staying home for the week (she is an 18-year-old senior). She has stayed home before for shorter trips, and she is trustworthy. The husband got angry, saying it was unreasonable. He insisted we pay for her ticket if we go. I replied that if she wanted to go, she could have gotten a part-time job and saved money for what she needs. Our bond is good, but it is not parent/child; we act like aunts/uncles helping her. I do not feel forced to support her every way. We have been generous over the last few years and will keep it up. We are stuck. Help?

My close friend "D" lives in Atlanta and wants to go to her hometown for spring break. I did not want to waste my last chance for spring break in her hometown; we could go somewhere tropical or exciting instead. So, I said no. Then, other close friends suggested we all go to Atlanta as a group with 15 others. I proposed to "D" that we go as a group as a middle ground, and she reacted strongly, saying she was disappointed that someone else wanted to go to Atlanta for me to want to go. I will buy my tickets and go with the group. Am I an asshole?

Thanks, I understand, and I will just apologize.

If it was just us two, I wanted an exciting spot like Mexico, a cruise, or Miami. I did not want her backyard because I thought it would be boring. I offered many choices, but she rejected them all. When other friends suggested a large group, I thought it was a fair trade. Group trips are never boring.

    From Redditoru/OtherWorldStar:

I am going on a university-sponsored Spring Break trip. The trip focuses on environmental volunteerism and service. I happily signed up. My university made selection very competitive. Applicants needed to fill out applications, submit resumes, and interview. They made it look like a big scholarship. I was selected in November. I only had to pay a nonrefundable deposit. I was unhappy paying a deposit without knowing the location, housing, or itinerary. However, since it was a school trip and a profitable school, I assumed everything would be fine. My parents asked me to withdraw for my safety and comfort. I already paid the deposit, so I chose to be open to the situation.

Two weeks before the trip starts, we finally get trip information. We are going to Florida for conservation work; that is great. Then, I learn about our lodging. We will sleep on a gym floor in a church, and our daily meals will be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I am appalled. I did not expect luxury hotels or anything; I expected a basic hotel room and a basic restaurant we would pay for ourselves. I do not want to seem 'bougie' or too good for something, but I expected more from something that was so competitive. My parents ask me to withdraw for my safety and comfort, but I already paid the deposit, and I decided to be open to things.

Here is the AITA part. I wanted my trip comfortable, so I asked for many details. I asked if we could bring food to cook (a kitchen is provided) or if I could order Uber Eats nightly; she agreed reluctantly. Our trip advisor asked about group wants. I suggested things costing $15-$30 per person daily. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, calling me unreasonable. So, despite being in beautiful FL, we will do little fun because no one wants to spend money. We cannot Uber or go anywhere alone. It is all group or nothing. We are college students, but I think we should have some fun. Trip advisors treat me like a problem child for wanting to make this trip work for me, but the trip felt like a bait and switch. I just want to maximize it. I am open to new things, which is why I signed up, but I did not expect this.

So, AITA for wanting people to spend more on the trip and wanting to accommodate myself?

I know this is a service trip, so I signed up. But I did not know a service trip meant strange lodging. That is mission work where I am from. I asked for details before paying my deposit. My school's website was vague. Advisors wanted to keep things secret. We can go out and have fun after service. The problem is how much everyone will pay for fun. We must always agree as a group. I could not go, but losing my deposit was not cheap.

    From Redditoru/aitaspringbreak:

I am a 21-year-old male college student. Spring Break is mid-March. My friends and I planned a trip to Santa Monica for a few days. It is only a couple of hours drive for us.

The original plan involved seven of us, including me, taking two cars there and splitting three hotel rooms for a couple of nights before returning. This is our first vacation where all of us are over 21, so everyone is excited.

However, my girlfriend invited me to visit her family in Maine for Spring Break. I have not met her family. Our relationship has become more serious. After we graduate in a few months, we plan to buy an apartment and move in together.

I told friends I had new Spring Break plans; I would not go to Santa Monica with them. Some friends got mad because without me paying, each friend now must pay more. Some friends say they cannot afford the trip, so they threaten to cancel if I do not go. I think they could easily afford it; they could just get two hotel rooms instead of three. I told them this, and they got annoyed.

What should I do about spending Spring Break with my girlfriend if it means my friends have to cancel the trip we planned?

    From Redditoru/vaguely-ominous:

I took the post down and archived it. I felt I might make my friend uncomfortable by hesitating first. I have several pictures of this friend on my Instagram. She only showed disdain for pictures once before, but she did not ask me to remove them. I worked hard to stop caring about my online image and how people saw me after a toxic relationship with a critical girl. I still like social media; I want to connect with people there because it is fun. This is just background for my feelings about this situation, which my friend knows. Now, here is the actual post.

Before quarantine started, my friends and I took a beach spring break trip. It was great; a good memory before things went bad, and a good way to end the school year. I spent time unplugged, yet we took many pictures because it was beautiful! We could not swim; the water felt too cold. We spent quality time together. It was also the first full week I spent with people calling me by my new name. At the end of the week, I returned to campus and packed my things because of Corona. I posted eight pictures: the first showed just me, and the rest were mixes of all my friends and group shots. This happened several months ago, in March.

A friend and roommate asked me to delete a post because she disliked one of the two group pictures she was in. Both pictures lacked her. I felt upset. I told her I did not want to delete it. The post made me happy. It was a good memory of people I love. The cover photo showed me well. She seemed unhappy with my response. I apologized and archived the post. I then joked about having two beach pictures together. This was to make her feel better about asking. My next post showed me at the same beach, announcing my name change. No Corona issues happened, though this was false.

The situation is over now. I feel upset, even though it's just social media. I am annoyed she would ask. It has been several months. She was not the focus of any pictures. AITA?

    From Redditoru/TeddyPages:

My best friend, 23, lives in California. I, 22, live in Washington. We have been friends since early high school. We learned how to stay close two states apart for many years. She is my best friend globally; we know each other better than anyone. She is high-energy; I am not as much. The trip is fun, but only for five days straight.

Before I heard I was coming down, she said she planned to fly up for the week to be with me. We visit each other sometimes. She flew up for a whole week around my birthday to celebrate and help me through a breakup.

For my last school spring break, I am going to California to visit my sisters, near her. The three of us wanted a quiet week in the woods. We planned to relax, read, and enjoy nature. Since she wants to see me, she assumed she would come to the woods with my sisters and me. She thought we could spend the week together. I know this would tire the three of us out when we just want quiet time. Still, I want to spend a day or two with her.

I get that we do not see each other often. She wants to be around me constantly. In the past, this meant I missed other family events. This sounds bad on paper. However, in high school and her first college years, we were very close. So, this is not surprising.

Tl;dr — my best friend only plans to spend time with me during spring break. AITA for only wanting to visit her for a day or two?

    From Redditoru/cgifted7:

Friends and I rented a boat for spring break. One friend knows three girls needing a place to sleep that night because their hotel reservation is the next day. This boat barely fits us guys. My friend does not know all the girls. I want to charge them $15-20 each for the night. That price seems fair since their hotel costs over $100 a night. Everyone, including the friend who knows the girls, thinks they planned to arrive early to use our boat. Am I wrong to charge for the night? They have two weeks to find other lodging or agree to pay $15-20.

    From Redditoru/lilydragon20:

Spring break is coming. HCBM has the kids that week. I assumed she would have them this year since we had them last year. I planned activities with my kids for the start of the week; just me and them. My boyfriend is not coming. She asked this morning if we could take the kids most of the week because she has work. Her boyfriend works nights, so I would have to be there if they are. I usually say yes, but I told him no. I already planned things with my kids because I did not expect them. He said he understood and told her what I said. She then fought with him, saying she knows he does not mind watching their kids and that I am awful for making plans that do not include her kids. I do everything they ask of me for them and those kids, and much more. When they are here with us, I care for them. I handle school tasks, feeding (except dinner, Dad does dinner), and I spend time with them. I take them places with me. I have never treated those kids any less than mine. I even get them from school for her when she needs them during her weeks. Also, her kids get to do more things than my kids do when we are not around. They have visited mountains, beaches, water parks, and much more.

She has other options to watch them while she works. My boyfriend and I always make our weeks work without her help. Am I the asshole for making plans without including their kids and not being available to watch them when she asks?

    From Redditoru/Secret-truscum-man:

My girlfriend (21) and I met in October and have been together since. We attend different schools, about five hours apart, so we have a long distance relationship and call each other a few times weekly.

We met a couple of times. During winter break, I drove to visit her at college and stayed at her parents' house. She came to my aunt's place for a few days to celebrate New Year’s.

I wanted to see her during spring break. Since late January, we discussed me driving to her parents' place on the 14th for a few days.

She sometimes seems absent. Sometimes we plan to talk, but she won't answer her phone. When she does talk, she seems inattentive. She skips classes and sleeps through the day, causing poor school performance.

She sent me nothing on Valentine's Day; she did not call or text. She said schoolwork kept her busy, but it still hurt. When I visited for the first time, she spent hours playing VR instead of talking. I avoid saying how these things affect me to avoid hurting her feelings.

I planned for me to visit during spring break since late January. I reminded her to tell her parents about it several times, but she never did. I prefer planning ahead. Since she still hadn't told her parents about my visit, I decided to tell them myself to give them advance notice.

I wanted to give them notice so they would not find out last minute. I didn't think much of it when I texted her mom about my spring break visit, in case she hadn't told them. Her mom replied she was fine with it. She also told me my girlfriend has been sleeping too much and acting angry.

My girlfriend called shortly after and seemed annoyed that I texted her mom about visiting instead of letting her do it. She felt like I was trying to invite myself over.

I do not think my action was wrong. I simply informed her mom early. I did not feel I was inviting myself over since my girlfriend and I already discussed it. I get why she was annoyed because her parents asked her why she hadn't told them. Still, I was frustrated she had not told them.

    Redditor said this.u/iLiftToGift.:

Around February 17th, I told my boyfriend I booked my plane ticket to fly home for spring break and I looked forward to seeing him. He said it was cool, but he thought we would not spend much time together because he would work all that week. I accepted that. I sent him my flight itinerary and other details, but after the 17th, I did not contact him about my plans to see him. I did not tell him I would go to his place right after I landed. I assumed he knew that is what I wanted.

March arrived. My flight was set for March 5th. I flew home and spent the evening with my sister. She took me to his house later that night. He was not there. Fifteen to twenty minutes after I arrived, he pulled up. Everything went wrong from there. He got upset with me. He would not speak to me. He ignored me and went inside.

I asked his roommate to help me, and he essentially told me my boyfriend felt I did a "random unannounced pop up," explaining why he was upset with me.

Am I the asshole for showing up unannounced, even though I knew I would be home in the state for spring break?

EDIT: I want to thank everyone for their kind insights and advice and good judgment. Thanks to you all, I know what I need to do now.

    From Redditoru/IBiteCl*ts:

I am on spring break this week, and my mom has a friend visiting town. She and my mom plan to go to a funeral in another state together. Until recently, I planned to go home and have the house to myself for a few days.

This plan changed because my mom’s friend’s ex-husband decided he could not take her daughter for the week. She has her, and my mom told her it was fine for her to bring her because I would be home and could watch her while they are gone.

This bothered me for many reasons.

I am on break, and I prefer to relax instead of having to babysit someone else's kid for free.

I do not know this girl. I dislike the idea of being alone with some underage girl with no one as a witness if she accuses me of anything.

I have never babysat in my life and know nothing about it.

I shared these concerns with my mom, and she told me I was being selfish and irrational. I told her it was not selfish for me to want to enjoy my spring break.

Right now, I am not going home for break; I am staying in my dorm.

    AITA?
