Dedicated Star Wars fans can be entertained by a three-hour movie with giant spaceships and cool-sounding lightsabers. However, The Rise of Skywalker fell short of almost everyone's standards, despite its impeccable graphics, loaded cast, and generous studio budget. Fans are coping by sharing their personal headcanons for Episode 9 and the latest Star Wars trilogy. Shows like The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars are filling the gap with storylines fans deserve. The despicable Jedi bait-and-switch used on Finn still stings. Browse the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker headcanons below and pick your favorite.

From RedditorYamanekoBlues:
Ben should have lived.
I look at this from a meaning perspective. Palpatine is defeated. Rey takes the lightsabers to Tatooine, a place she never visited, and goes to the Lars Homestead, which has no ties to her. She takes the Skywalker name (why?). Instead of Rey, Ben should do it. Rey dies in his arms; he was the only one who cared for him. Palpatine and his line are gone; the Sith story ends. Ben must live with the terrible things he did and the fact that no one who loved him—family or unconditionally—is alive. Chewie, maybe. That is his penance for his actions.
So what does he do? He takes his family's lightsabers and returns to Tatooine, where the Saga started. He lives as a hermit at the Lars homestead, watching the twin suns like his uncle and grandfather. The wayward Skywalker is home; their Saga finishes (though you can include Adam Driver cameos later). The story ends with a sad but meaningful finish.
Rey can call herself anything, but Rey remains a Palpatine. She did not make firm choices like Luke did when he dropped his lightsaber or learned to control her dark impulses (or emotions). Thus, the Palpatine Saga, which broke apart, is not over. With Rey alive, the story has not ended.

It would be amazing to see Anakin speak to his grandson when he brings Rey back.

Rey should have been a Jedi connected to the Skywalker or Kenobi legacy, while Finn was the perfect "nobody from nowhere" who becomes a Jedi. I state what I said.

This might be unpopular, but while I really like Finn's character, he should have died in The Last Jedi. The Last Jedi. This marks the end of his arc. He beat Chrome Dome and, after years of questioning his loyalty, he found a cause to die for.
Finn is one of my favorite parts of Star Wars. When he was about to die, I was in the theater thinking, "Wow, they actually had the guts to do this." It felt emotional, and it would have been a satisfying ending. In Part VII, he learns to care about someone (Rey), and in Part VIII, he learns to care about a cause worth dying for.
Then... Rose saves him (somehow) and delivers some cheesy line about saving what we love. I say this as aThe Last Jedidefender, but that was so unsatisfying.

From Redditoru/Jakkubus:
Rey acts more like a Sith than a real Jedi. She has serious anger problems second only to Kylo Ren's childish tantrums, and over the course ofThe Last JediRey lashes out at Luke and Snoke. Her raw passion and need to belong make her an easy target for the Dark Side's corruption. Yet, most people see her as a perfect Light Side Jedi and an exemplary one.
If Rey was Snoke's apprentice, her lack of agency and desire for a parent would serve the story better. This would impact the plot instead of being a weak trait. It also opens space for her to grow and gain strength.TFAandTLJThe story is weak. Instead of starting as a fixed character, she could learn independence and earn her power.
Kylo Ren, Rey's rival, would work better on the other side. A young, arrogant Jedi rejected because of his link to Darth Vader, who fights his anger, would be more interesting than a spoiled pseudo-Sith.

From Redditoru/ScionN7:
Rey would have been a fun, likable scavenger who can tinker, repair, hack, and infiltrate. She should have been the party's thief. I found her the most likeable during the first half ofThe Force Awakens.

Fromkaliedel:
I keep returning to the creative choice to make the villain a Skywalker and the hero an unknown person. That choice hurt the protagonist. The Skywalker name and history carry big implications, giving Kylo many moral questions to face. Rey should have been the Skywalker, or a Skywalker alongside the villain. Without a more interesting idea for her, the Skywalker factor is too big to ignore. It is a name, a legacy, and a story cemented in pop culture. How can Rey compete when that is given to the villain?

From Tumblr usersupremeprince-bensolo:
Rey made the lightsaber hilt from her staff to honor her past as a scavenger and the item that helped her survive her solitary years.
She took Kylo’s lightsaber and fixed the cracked kyber crystal. She used that to power her new lightsaber. The blade is yellow because red (from the dark side) plus green (healed and now light side) mixes to make yellow.
The healed crystal shows how Rey symbolically killed Kylo Ren and then healed him. He was reborn as Ben Solo just as this crystal became something new.
The lightsaber honors their history and the ability to heal and move past the past. It shows who they are and what they represent together.
Balance.

From Redditoru/Zcorruption:
InThe Last JediRey looks at Luke. She says Kylo Ren still has good in him. If he could be turned, it would shift the tide. Her final words to Luke before leaving are, "he's our last hope." Considering the whole nine-film saga, and Luke was the new hope, calling episode nine the last hope fits because the movie focused on Ben until the end.

In my headcanon, I wonder about the old lady at the end ofThe Rise of SkywalkerThe old lady on Tatooine at the end of The Rise of Skywalker is actually Luke’s old friend from Tosche Station, Camie Marstrap, many years later. Most people do not know her because she appeared only in a deleted scene fromA New Hope, but her character is canon.
This offers a good nod to an original trilogy element Lucas cut. It is a deep cut that fans recognize her link to that original Luke story from '77.
Tatooine's climate ages you early. It is dry, twin-sunned, and has coarse, rough sand everywhere. Obi-Wan aged 32 years in 19 on Tatooine. Uncle Owen aged 30 and Aunt Beru aged 35 (these are actors' ages).

From Twitter user @TheFirstOkiro:
Finn and Leia’s bond was underrated. According toThe Rise Of SkywalkerA visual guide shows Leia saw potential in Finn. He would seek her out to learn more about the force because he knew it mattered to Rey. She lost a son; he lost a family. They helped each other a lot.

From u/clashquestions:
Rey should have said yes. This cannot happen because it is aStar WarsThe only logical move for Rey is to join Kylo when he asks in the throne room. This happens if she cares about the lives of those in the rebellion and the galaxy.
I thought this would happen until he said rule the galaxy together. She does not want that. At that moment, I think she felt disillusioned with her side and intrigued by the Dark Side. Rey had a chance to make real changes in the galaxy. She can influence the First Order's path now, despite their terrible actions. Kylo does not plan mass genocide or horrible acts. His bad actions stem from trying to find his place and please his master, to become Darth Vader. He no longer cares about any of that. He has killed the past.

From Redditor b_khan0131:
Palpatine’s "Grand Plan" was not finished inROTS. His real plan was the Sith Fleet. I think Palpatine started work on the Sith Fleet as soon as the Empire formed (explaining why they match the ISD model but are bigger). When Palpatine "died" (which was not part of his plan), he saved himself and kept working on the Final Order, which he planned before Episode I...
