    Zillo Beasts

Zillo Beasts.Long thought extinct, one Zillo Beast awoke on Malastare. The Clone Wars proved this wrong; an electro-proton bomb unearthed what people thought was the last Zillo Beast. Zillo Beasts measure 318 feet (97 meters) long and tall. They feature a third arm from their back, massive tail spikes, and huge jaws that eat anything blocking their way. These creatures weigh about 60,000 metric tons.

The Zillo Beast's hide resists all damage. Blaster fire does not dent it. Lightsabers cannot cut it. The Galactic Republic used a special toxin to kill the Zillo Beast on Malastare because blasting it did nothing. Palpatine ordered a clone after the beast died. He seemed to want its hide for the Grand Army of the Republic, but he truly wanted it for his own bad plans.

During the Imperial Era,Another Zillo Beast.A Zillo Beast existed on the Benathy home world. The Benathy worshipped it as a god. It played a central part in their culture. When the Empire fought the Benathy, Darth Vader defeated it but did not kill it. Later, Vader's grandson, Kylo Ren, killed what was likely the last Zillo Beast. He then ordered the Benathy to join the First Order.

The jellyfish in the Kessel Run came from pitching bad ideas in a meeting. I opened my sketchbook and pitched, "What if the Falcon had to fly through a jellyfish?" I laughed. Then we came back and said, "There's a jellyfish in the presentation."

Director Ron Howard approved the idea. Soon, the crew called this giant starship-eating beast "Space-o-pus," which fits well!

    Sarlaccs

When the Sarlacc.first appeared inReturn of the Jedi., everyone knew the Sarlacc lived in Tattoine's deserts. It ate everything that fell in for over a thousand years. It was gigantic. The Special Edition showed more animation, revealing tendrils and a beaked mouth, but that's all.

When a male and female touch, the male attaches itself to its "mate." It absorbs her mass, growing while shrinking hers. Once the male matches the female's size, it bursts. This releases spores that travel far before becoming quadrupedal creatures with huge mouths. These creatures become fully mobile and hungry, staying that way for about 30,000 years.

After 30,000 years, they become huge. They stop moving and find a spot to burrow. They bury their bodies, leaving only their mouths exposed. Their size and toughness make the Sarlacc hard to kill. They can go years without eating, taking food from anything that falls into its mouth pit. A Sarlacc reaches about 328 feet (100 meters) long at full size.

Once loose, they tore through the ship, destroying everything and eating anyone who got in their way.

Rathtars are known across the galaxy as some of the deadliest creatures. They grow to about 1,433 pounds (650 kilograms), and their tentacles measure about 20 feet (6 meters) long. Vixus

VixusVixus are unusual because they lack sentience. These stationary animals look like vines to newcomers, which the Vixus wants. A giant, open mouth, filled with sharp teeth and a tongue ending in a three-pronged claw, sits at its center. They appear genuinely horrifying, resting quietly until their "vines" get disturbed. When this happens, the Voxus awakens, grabs whatever it can, and directs it into its mouth.

The501st LegionThe 501st Legion met several Vixus during the Battle of Umbara. This resulted in at least one Clone Trooper dying. The unit quickly faced these horrifying monsters. The best way to handle them was dropping a thermal detonator into their mouths. This kills a Vixus. However, you must get it inside without facing the same situation, making fighting a Vixus a very bad idea.

    Wampa

In the opening scenes ofThe Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker finds himself in trouble when a wampaattacks him. The wampa takes him to an ice cave and locks his feet in ice on the ceiling. The young Jedi breaks free using the Force and a quick lightsaber move. He defends himself against the 9.8-foot (3-meter) beast. He slices off the wampa's arm because someone needs to lose an arm in a Star Warsmovie) and goes about his business on the ice.

People might see the wampa and think it is a large, mindless beast. That is incorrect. Wampas are sentient but primitive creatures. They call Hoth their home. They were a species developing when the Rebel Alliance set up Echo Base on their home world. Throughout history, hunters have taken wampas as preferred prey, taking their hides as trophies across the galaxy.

Early movie drafts planned for wampas to invade Echo Base, leading to an encounter with the main characters. Production changed course because the wampas did not look scary enough. To get the distinct roar, sound effects artist Randy Thorn recorded the sounds of an elephant while sound designer Ben Burtt recorded the cries of a sea lion. These sounds mixed and altered to create the wampa's roar.Randy Thornrecorded the sounds of an elephant while sound designerBen Burttrecorded the cries of a sea lion.
