14 Star Wars Plot Holes Bigger Than The Death Star

About this list

Big questions plague us: Why are we here? What's our purpose? Why didn't Darth Vader recognize C-3PO and R2D2? A massive franchise like Star Wars is bound to have plot holes, but that doesn't make them less baffling. The series' release out of chronological order compounds the issue. The original trilogy covered the middle part of the story, while the prequels were written two decades later. This caused problems for George Lucas as he developed story ideas and changed plot points to fit his vision. He also wove in foreshadowing, leading to narrative confusion. The unorthodox storytelling approach was always going to result in inconsistencies. While some have been addressed in the expanded universe, most fans only know the plot points from the actual films. As a result, many plot holes in Star Wars continue to confuse even diehard fans.

Using A Hyperspace Jump To Destroy Enemy Ships Shouldn’t Work

One intense moment ofThe Last Jediccomes when a rebel cruiser uses a ship as a weapon to destroy Supreme Leader Snoke’sship. The spacecraft is destroyed. The rebel ship jumps to light speed using its hyperdrive, causing huge, instant damage that otherwise would not have happened.

If this tactic works, thenwhy don't people use it constantly? Tiny ships can have hyperdrives. If this tactic was possible, fleets could attach missiles or other unmanned projectiles to the faster-than-light engines tofire at enemy ships. It still looked really cool.

Luke Is "Hidden" On His Father’s Home Planet, And Keeps His Original Surname

When Padme died at the end ofRevenge of the Sith,it was clear to Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Bail Organa that her children needed to hide from their father. If Darth Vader found them, he probably would train them in the dark side or kill them to stop a threat.

Bail adopted Leia as his daughter and gave her a new name, butLuke is sent to live with his (and Anakin's) blood relatives. The trio decides Luke should keep the Skywalker name, live on Tatooine where Vader was born, and have Obi-Wan (Darth Vader's former master) live nearby, even though they tried to hide him from Darth Vader. Changing his name to Ben seems like an easy way to find the future Jedi.

Leia Was Never Taught How To Use The Force, But Is Incredibly Powerful In The Last Jedi

This is strange, though, because Leia has rarely used the Force before. She uses it instinctively with people she has strong personal ties to, like sensing Han’s death or talking telepathically with Luke.It makes little sense for her to suddenly use such powerful Force abilities without training or instruction.Leia used her mastery of the Force when this happened. Therefore, Imperial forces can detect lifeforms on ships. Instead of scanning the Millennium Falcon, they rely on ship logs to confirm it has no crew. This lets Han, Luke, Chewbacca, and Obi-Wan use the Millennium Falcon to Trojan Horse the Death Star and rescue Princess Leia. Most fans agree these actions show a powerful Force user.

During the climax of A New Hope,, the Rebel Alliance gets time to destroy the Death Star before it destroys their base. The film shows the planet Yavin between the Death Star and Yavin IV, meaning the Death Star must move around Yavin to destroy the Rebels. However, Leia's strange behavior makes sense since she has not used the Force much. She has generally not used the Force before. When she has, it was instinctive. The Millennium Falcon Is Not Scanned For Life, Despite The Empire Possesing This Technology

Early in A New Hope,A New Hope, the Empire scans the escape pod.R2-D2 and C-3PO used life scans.Imperial forces clearly have the ability to detect lifeforms on ships.Yet, instead of scanning the Millennium Falcon, upon capturing it and taking it to the Death Star, they check logs to confirm it has no crew. This lets Han, Luke, Chewbacca, and Obi-Wan use the Millennium Falcon to Trojan Horse the Death Star and rescue Princess Leia.

A quick scan would have shown the group, letting the Empire kill them.During the climax of A New Hope,, the Rebel Alliance gets time to destroy the Death Star before it can destroy their base.

The Death Star Is Only Destroyed When It Has To Travel Around A Planet To Fire On The Rebel Base

, the Rebel Alliance gets time to destroy the Death Star before it can destroy their base. See, according to the film, the planet Yavin stands between the Death Star and Yavin IV, the moon where the Rebels are, so the Death Star must move around Yavin to destroy them.Obviously, this ignores that the Death Star is a huge weapon whose whole job is to destroy planets.. The Empire should have fired two shots: one to destroy the planet, one to destroy the moon. Even without time to recharge, the planet's explosion likely would have destroyed the base anyway.During the last act of Attack of the Clones

Obviously, this ignores the fact that the Death Star is literally a huge weapon whose whole purpose is to destroy planets. The Empire should have just fired two shots: one to destroy the planet, and one to destroy the moon. In fact, even if they didn’t have enough time to recharge their laser weapon, the force of the planet being blown up would likely have destroyed the base anyway.
