He Won't Be Rebooting 'Reservoir Dogs'

Quentin Tarantino vowed his next movie would be his last. He told Maher he considered rebooting Reservoir Dogs.Reservoir Dogs, the 1992 film that changed "Stuck in the Middle with You" into a dark soundtrack for ear surgery.

Tarantino's first film opened the door for his biggest hit.Pulp FictionTarantino made countless crime and revenge thrillers. Remaking one would make sense. But Tarantino shut down the idea, saying:

    I won't do it, Internet.

Do your thing, Internet. As fights start over remaking Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino will write his next script and likely ignore you.Reservoir DogsTarantino will write his next script and probably ignore you if people argue about whether remaking Reservoir Dogs will work.

He Kinda Dissed Another Famous Director

Any film director knows publicly attacking other directors' work is bad form. That creates glass houses.

Maher argued Tarantino shouldn't stop when he is "at the top of his game," while Tarantino was discussing his retirement.

Tarantino insulted an iconic 1970s director.Don SiegelSiegel earned fame working with Clint Eastwood inDirty Harry(1971) andEscape from Alcatraz(1979).

Don Siegel had one of his best decades. If he quit in 1979 when he did...Escape from Alcatraz... What a final film. I want a mic drop like that. Instead, Siegel went on to do two more.

Quentin, be harsh. Escape from Alcatraz is a classic. But Siegel then madeRough Cut(1980) andJinxed!(1982) before quitting and...

Quentin is right here. He should have quit with Alcatraz, Don.

    The Culture Wars and Art

Tarantino's film history knowledge earns him fan and critic respect. He and Maher agreed that "cancel culture" hurt artistic expression recently.

He drew analogies to the stifling filmmaking of the 1950s, where Hollywood forced directors to cut anything controversial or provocative before public release:

Ideology beats art. Ideology beats individual effort. Ideology beats good. Ideology beats entertainment.

He said everything comes in waves. After the 1950s and "the fifties part 2" in the early to mid-1960s, a Golden Age started, lasting until at least the 1980s, before the 1990s when Tarantino became famous.

Maher suggested a "new Golden Age" is coming and asked Tarantino to be part of it.

He Has No Immediate Plans to Return to L.A.

WithOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood,Tarantino wrote a twisted love note to Tinseltown, making him liked by Los Angeles film buffs and movie nerds.

Have his L.A. privileges been taken away?

Tarantino lives happily in Tel Aviv with his wife and daughter. This is even after multiple trips to his family's bomb shelter to escape Hamas missiles during the recent conflict. Tarantino admitted he misses L.A., but he also said Tel Aviv shares similarities.

I miss L.A.... The weather is almost identical. If you sweat here, you sweat there.

Maher called the Middle East "the revenge capital of the world" and wondered if Tarantino would shoot his next movie there. The director refused to touch the region's politics. Still, he seemed interested.

If you shoot a movie in Jerusalem, you cannot place the camera where you are not capturing something great.

Don't expect it, Internet, but it is a mashup of...Homeland.andKill Bill.would certainly be something.

    He Made Us Feel Old

Maher aimed to shame Tarantino into not retiring. He noted Tarantino is only 58, joking, "58's the new 57."

Tarantino told us he is tired after thirty years of filmmaking.

That is a long career. I gave it everything I had, every single thing.

Tarantino has nothing left to prove. As Maher joked, "Clint Eastwood did"Grand Torino.Eastwood when he was 110. That is one of my favorites.

Though Eastwood is only 91, Tarantino could direct for another 30 years and still be younger than Eastwood when he quits.

We do not feel so old anymore. Problem solved.
