About this list

Since 2012's The Avengers, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have known Thanos is coming, but his motivations remain unclear. Thanos's goal to collect Infinity Stones is well-known, but why he wants them so badly is still unclear. In Marvel Comics, Thanos has a long history of pursuing the Infinity Stones, even succeeding on a couple of occasions. Introduced in 1973, Thanos's character has remained consistent: he wants the Infinity Gauntlet to kill more people, driven by his love for Death - a literal, personified concept. This obsession has made him a great Marvel villain.

The Infinity Stones Offer Great Power Individually, But Together They’re Exponentially Stronger

Each Infinity Stone grants its holder god-like power. Thanos already possesses god-like abilities, so the individual Stones offer little incentive to the Mad Titan.
