Description of 'It Goes Beyond Teaching' in the list '13 Teachers Reveal Secrets They Hate About Teaching'skybluedreams

I hate monitoring vapes and illicit substances. I also watch for warning signs of depression, self-harm, poor nutrition, bullying, homelessness, taking advantage of others, inappropriate sexual activity, and playing bathroom monitor. All this happens while I make entertaining lessons, exceed last year's standardized test scores, and stay within my scheduled hours.

I dislike two main types of students:

    1) Those who are mean to other students.

    2) Those who refuse to take responsibility for their actions.

These qualities often overlap, though not always.

I am in my fifth year of teaching. I love teaching, but the workload, poor treatment, and constant buying are exhausting. I would choose another career.

I want to help students improve.

I know every student has different issues.

I get frustrated when there is no effort. Interrupting other students' learning is worse. Open hostility and disrespect are even worse.

I like teaching, but I cannot stand everything else. Grading, meetings, keeping contact with many families, and searching for working sources takes too much time. Even dealing with other teachers socially feels like a minefield.

The 'extra' stuff eliminates teachers. Our district, and every school district nearby, is changing the professional learning community. But this change kills everyone. Apparently, a district goal was to help with teacher burnout, not this!

I like working in a school and building bonds with kids. However, many teaching parts caused me major stress. The huge out-of-school time commitment—grading, planning, answering parent calls—and the public speaking/classroom management dynamic caused a huge spike in my anxiety.

I left the classroom because most issues involved authority and the feeling that I was 'spinning' without progress, both professionally and with the students. I felt angry, anxious, and that my day's work was pointless. The worst part? I loved teaching but could not handle the system.

I quit teaching because I hated other teachers and administrators, not the students. I believe in teaching students and being a role model, not a dictator, which was unpopular, so I quit. That is the education problem.

I hated gossip. Everyone gets involved with everyone else. As a student teacher, I found pre-planning baffling; people preferred gossiping over actual work.

Interacting with other teachers is a minefield. Veteran teachers seem standoffish toward newbies. This is awful!

I like the relationships. Contacting families and meetings matter. But teaching causes me anxiety. I quit last week.
