An ER doctor. During med school, a chronic respiratory failure patient, DNR/DNI, had vital-sign checks at his bedside. Guy showed no pulse or breathing. Pupils were fixed and dilated. A senior resident said, "This is a great chance to confirm your first dead body."

We wrote his death note. We made arrangements. An hour later, the same nurse called us: "Uh, this guy is alive and talking to me." Sure enough, the guy was awake and talking. He got discharged days later. I watched him until I finished med school. He lived at least another 1.5 years.

    A friend and I saw a teeny-tiny person.

This happened in the '90s. A pub stood a mile from my friend Jason's house. The walk took us along a canal in the West Midlands, England. One evening, we went to his house, walked to the pub, drank pints, ate, and headed back.

It was early evening; light remained decent. We walked the track beside the canal. Then, we heard a splash in the water behind us. Turning, we saw it: about 40 feet away, ripples moved through the canal toward the bank. We both watched birds then, so we guessed a coot or a moorhen. We both felt shock when something like a tiny man, about 8 inches tall, climbed from the water, shook off water, and ran into the hedge.

We froze for a few moments before going to where the little man exited the water. We found no trace of him. We returned to Jason's place and spent hours trying to make sense of it. We could not think of any other animal or bird that resembled a tiny person.

This is dark. It happened around age 11 during a trip to Austria and a theme park. There was a jumpy structure with a 1-meter, 2-meter, and 3-meter pole, and a large cushion to jump down on. I wanted to try and went up the tallest pole.

I jumped down those poles a few times before, but that time I felt pure terror. I do not know why, but suddenly I shook and feared for my life. This was a deep fear I had never felt. My mind told me not to jump. That made no sense since I jumped down and it was fun. So I let the kid behind me go first.

She died. A cushion leaked and she broke her neck. She was nine years old.

I climbed down. I will never forget this. If I had jumped, I would be gone. Fate wanted me on that day, not her.

    From Redditor/u/Nervousnessss:

I had this feeling. I was sixteen. My father and brother slept. They were sick; they took NyQuil and were asleep, hard. My aunt had cancer; my mother stayed with her to help. I called my mother. I told her, "I can’t sleep. I feel like I’m going to perish. I just know if I sleep, I won’t wake up." Mom told me I was stressed from a bad year. She told me to sleep on the sofa. I tried, but the feeling stayed. Finally, I went to my bed and dozed off.

I woke up to flames. The house next door caught fire. My bedroom was closest to the property. My roof caught fire too. I got my family out and called the fire department. Had I slept on the sofa, we would not have had a clear way out.

Dad called Mom about the fire. Mom lost it. She never tries to explain my gut feeling again.

    From Redditor/u/kokopelli687:

Growing up, my dad and I watched dragonflies for hours. My dad and my mom divorced when I was thirteen. He moved out of state and could not support himself and a child, so my mom got custody and moved us to another state. He could always visit, but he never did. We talked on the phone a few times weekly to stay in touch.

He got a rare cancer in his vocal cords. Surgery was planned. He called days after surgery. He said things looked good, but a fever kept him in the hospital. I knew that was our last talk. The next day, I sat in my truck before work. The window was open. A dragonfly landed on my hand. It was November; there should have been none. It felt like my dad was standing there. Two minutes later, I got a call from his friend at the hospital. He passed about five minutes before I saw the dragonfly.

My father told me this story twice. Forty years ago, even though it happened to him, I still see the goosebumps on his arms as he recalled the experience:

"When I was young, about twelve or thirteen, my family lived in a small suburb. A street lamp shone across the street into our living room window at night. So, every night before bed, my father would draw the curtains."

Around 2 am, I woke up and went to the kitchen for water. Passing the living room, I saw a street lamp's light cut through a gap in the curtains, making me want to peek.

Under the street lamp stood a tall man. He wore a black cap, had silver skin, and massive eyes—those bug-eyes you see in alien movies. He stood there still, staring right at me.

I quickly hid behind my father's recliner. He could not have seen me; the house was dark. I barely moved the curtains while I looked through. After sitting on the floor behind the recliner for a few minutes, I became curious if the man had gone.

The silver man with bug-eyes pressed against the glass, inches from my face, stared at me. Frozen in terror, I ran through the house to my father's room and woke him, telling him what happened. He grabbed his shotgun and went outside. He found no one, but fresh footprints in the dew on the lawn showed where someone had been.

My wife won radio contests whenever she wanted. She won a lot. She used no specific technique; this happened across multiple radio stations in different cities, and I have no explanation. [Some] examples:

    From Redditor/u/celeste-nova:

As a freshman, I became interested in psychics. My friend (now my significant other) took me to a palm reading/tarot booth at a Renaissance fair. When I sat down, she greeted me, looked behind me, looked back, and said, "You have four people behind you." (I went into her tent alone).

I recall little of the reading. She mentioned African violets because one of the spirits behind me connected to them. I did not think much of it since I knew no one who liked African violets, and I forgot about it the next year.

The next year, I visited the same booth with a different woman. My SO sat with me. She asked if I knew anything about African violets, without warning. I said no. She told me to get them for the spirit behind me. I left the reading feeling strange, but I dismissed it.

Six months later, my dad and I were at a Home Depot. I separated from him to look at flowers and found African violets. I bought them, put them in a new pot, and placed them on my window sill when I returned home. Two minutes later, my mom came in and asked if I bought anything.

    "African violets," I told her.

My mom smiled and sighed. She looked at me and said, "You know, those were your grandmother’s favorite flowers."

My grandmother died when I was eleven. The next year, I returned to that booth, and they did not mention African violets. I know it is not.a creepy storyIt still makes me uneasy.

    From Redditor/u/Mkrebs119:

I was sick at home during high school. I sat in my computer chair playingSkyrimMy dog, usually content alone and never seeking affection, entered my room and lay staring out the door. Being alone, and this not being his usual action, unsettled me. So, I closed my door and went back to playing.

Not three minutes later, I heard my mother's voice calling my name, clear as day (she is a schoolteacher, so she would have been at work). I tried to be quiet and lowered my TV to avoid attracting whatever I heard and hear more clearly. Then, I heard the bedroom door upstairs slam shut. I sat in my room in silence all day until my mom returned. I asked her if she was home earlier, and she denied it. This was one of the scariest moments of my life.

    From Redditor/u/Septoria:

As a teenager, I became interested in fortune-telling (as entertainment, I put on a show). My best friend bought me a pack of "Titania's Oracle" cards. I practiced readings for friends with these. I liked the artwork, and people always read what they want into them.

One day, I did a two-week-ahead reading for my friend Richard. The man and the dog appeared; I said this showed a close male friend. Then, the coffin card. I said, 'Don't worry. This usually means a waiting period; it only means death if it appears next to the scythe card.'

I should not have told him that. The next card was a scythe. The reading basically said a close male friend would die within the next two weeks.

I tried to change my story and say it could mean a new phase in your friendship, but I saw he was upset by this. I felt terrible—this was supposed to be fun!

I caught up with Richard a couple of weeks later. His best friend had passed away. We drifted apart as friends after that. It was a terrible coincidence.

    From Redditor/u/TortTortTheWaterWart:

I had an accident while falling asleep at the wheel. I drove off the road at a T. Headed into a wooded area at about 50 mph. I hit a telephone pole's guy wire; the cable was driven into the ground at a 45-degree angle to the pole. That cable saved me because it absorbed most of my energy and slowed me down a lot.

The energy absorbed cut two feet into the front end of my car, splitting the battery in half. It spun me ninety degrees, leaving me sideways when I went down a hill into the woods. The car rolled three times, landing on the roof. I missed all the trees. I got out, grabbed my things, and walked away totally fine (my seatbelt held).

I walked two miles home. It was 2 am, no cellphones. Back home, I saw a perfect one-inch square of fabric missing from my khaki pants, about midway on my right thigh. The edges were clean, cut like with a scalpel. No skin cuts or scrapes. This felt unreal and made me uneasy. I think after I [pass], I will get this one-inch piece of khaki fabric and hear, "It wasn’t your time."

    From Redditor/u/W0lffle:

When I was young, aged six to eight, my parents rented an apartment building near us. A couple lived there. The wife's parents were our neighbors, living a block away. I played with the wife's younger brother and hung out at their apartment.

The party happened around the couple's son's birthday. I think it was his first because they talked about it for weeks. They planned the party at the wife's parents' house, which was close. I asked my parents if I could go. They said no, sort of joking, telling me they would serve ducks instead of chicken (I hated ducks as a kid). I felt really down for days.

A few days after the party, I hung out at the apartment. They talked about the party photos that just developed (film). I said, "I wish I was there." Then the wife said, "What do you mean? You were. Look, here you are." She showed me the pictures, and I was there.

I might be misremembering this because it has bothered me always. I asked my aunt if I went; she said no. But my friend (the younger brother) told me I was there and we played. I simply don't recall that party.

    From Redditor/u/yuukinagato:

This happened five years ago. My sister, nine then, and I, fourteen then, shared a room with our beds side-by-side. Usually, our beds were four feet apart. One night, they ended up touching. This likely happened because she constantly did gymnastics on her bed, pushing the mattress.

That night, I dreamt of a glass doll with long, dark hair. I felt I needed to protect it. I tried to keep it safe, promising it would be fine, but as I spoke, the doll's hair fell out. I dropped the doll; it shattered. Doctors glued the doll back together, and her hair grew back.

I woke up crying. I did not grasp why I had that dream. I saw my head resting on my sister's pillow. When she woke, she told me about her dream. It was the same. I felt totally freaked out, but she did not believe me.

Six months later, my sister got cancer. She lost all her hair. Like in the dream, her hair grew back, and she got better.

She does not recall this. I remain confused about everything. I am thankful for the dream because it helped me prepare emotionally for what came next.

A couple of years ago, my great-uncle died. After the funeral, a group of close family and I ate dinner with my great aunt, who had just lost her husband. While we ate, she got a phone call, looked extremely pale, answered it, then hung up.

The call came from my great-uncle. No one was on the other end, and his phone was at her house while no one was home. This definitely freaked everyone at the table out.

I sat in my room reading a book, facing my open door. I saw my brother walk past into his room next to mine. I heard him close the door.

Thirty seconds later, my dad came to my room, looking ashen. "Where is your brother?" he asked me.

"In his room," I replied without hesitation.

"No, he is not." My dad kept looking horrified. "Your brother is not home."

We checked his room. It was empty. We both saw the same thing walk into my brother's room. It still gives me goosebumps.

    Redditor/u/MrSirST.:

[M]y parents and I were housesitting for neighbors and feeding their dog. One time, I was in the living room and saw someone go up the stairs. I thought it was my dad because he wore black dress shoes similar to the ones he wore to work. A minute later, I went to the kitchen; my dad was in the room with my mom talking, and he was wearing sandals.

I saw someone. There was zero one else supposed to be in the house then. Neighbors returned; nothing was stolen. I doubt a burglar entered.

I was eight. My dad was in the military, so we moved often. I clearly recall three months living in an apartment while moving. I remember the layout, my actions, what others said, and other things.

My brother and parents do not remember the weird part. They cannot recall what they did, said, or showed items they bought while they were there. I ask questions like, "Where did you buy that from?" or "Where were we that spring?" They always dodge my questions.
