Pam Phillips and Gary Triano looked like a perfect couple.Town toasts them. The toasts came from Tucson, AZ. They lived well in high society. The couple often planned trips with Donald Trump and his wife, Marla Maples.Phillips and Triano married in 1986. They raised two kids and lived a rich life for a few years.
The marriage first cracked about seven years later. Triano's gambling debts threatened the family's money. Phillips decided she could not keep her lavish life. She packed and moved to Aspen, CO. They divorced in 1993.
In November 2006, Triano finished golfing with a friend. He walked to his car and got in. Then, a pipe bomb went off. Triano died right away. Some thought the murder was a mob hit. Investigators thought this motive was a distraction. Triano supposedly dealt with known mafia members, and one friend claimed he saw Triano's name on a 'kill list.' But the bomb was poorly made. This fact ruled out the Mafia.
Weeks after Triano died, Phillips filed for her husband's $2 million life insurance. Investigators suspected Phillips stood to inherit the money. They needed a deeper look into Phillips's motives. Police found Phillips paid Ronald Young $40,000 over several years in the early '90s. Authorities found a car rented by Young among abandoned vehicles. Inside the car, they found maps, lists of Triano's associates, hotel receipts, and documents from Triano and Phillips's divorce.
Both Young and Phillips faced charges for Triano's murder. The court found Young guilty of first-degree murder. Phillips was found guilty of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
