About this list

Every generation brings amazing Pokémon, but also some lackluster ones. Some are so weak they're nearly impossible to use in battle, or have designs that make them unpopular. This list counts down the worst Pokémon of every type. While every Pokémon has its strengths and fans, this list focuses on those that are weak and hard to use in battle, plus a few with terrible designs. If you see a favorite Pokémon on this list, don't worry - opinions vary. Vote up the ones you think are truly terrible, and vote down those you think are unfairly criticized.

    Water Type - Luvdisc

Luvdisc might be a cute Pokémon for Valentine's Day. Otherwise, it offers little utility. When first introduced in Gen III, it could learn only one Water move. It gained a few later, but it lacks attack power to use strong moves like Hydro Pump. Its stats are poor. Trainers generally do not like Luvdisc.

    Flying Type - Delibird

Delibird is an adorable Flying-type Pokemon based on Santa Claus. Its signature move, Present, has only a 20% chance to heal the opponent. This is sweet, but it is the last thing anyone wants in a battle.

    Bug Type - Metapod

Metapod seems useless. In nature, an insect in a cocoon reforms its body to fight enemies. Still, Metapod is useless. If you raise one from Caterpie, it learns Tackle and String Shot—or Bug Bite, depending on the generation. If you catch one after evolution, it only learns Harden. Sharpening defense without dealing damage offers no battle advantage.

    Ground Type - Stunfisk

Stunfisk achieved the goal of being the flattest Pokemon, but few others did. Its appearance is genuinely unpleasant; its Galarian form is worse. Though not the worst in stats, it pales next to many ground types. Stunfisk cannot learn many interesting or powerful moves, so it stays in the PC.

    Fire Type - Simisear

A poll in Japan showed Simisear was the least popular Pokemon in 2016.Simisear was the least popular Pokemon in 2016.2016 featured Simisear. Infernape, a fully evolved fire ape, is already very cool. Its stats are mediocre. It learns no new moves after evolving, and it looks unpleasant overall.

    Fighting Type - Crabominable

Fighting types show raw strength and agility. Players who favor blasting through with attacks over complex strategy like this type benefit. Crabominable has decent attack, but it moves very slowly. This makes using its strength nearly impossible. Its appearance is ridiculous; it is a genuinely unpleasant Pokémon.

    Rock Type - Probopass

Probopass is not among the weakest on this list, but it is so awful we included it. This Pokemon supposedly came from the Maoi heads of Easter Island, an art form more elegant than Probopass. Probopass and its pre-evolution Nosepass have faced repeated accusations of being anti-Semitic caricatures. These accusations have a clear source.

    Ice Type - Jynx

People get super excited about a Pokemon repeatedly called a racist caricature. Even with its purple redesign, Jynx still looks creepy. Stats are poor, though: Jynx has a base defense of only 35. Should we just stop with Jynx?

    Steel Type - Togedemaru

Most people forgot about it.Togedemaru tries to replicate Pikachu's success with identical electric rodents. This makes none of them stand out. Togedemaru is Electric/Steel. Dragon Type - Turtonator

Dragon types often possess great strength, but not all of them do. Turtonator's droppings explode, making it a terrible Pokemon to keep. It is also slow and has low HP; high defense stats do not fix this.

    Poison Type - Foongus

Who thought combining a Pokeball with a mushroom was a good idea? Foongus is ugly and slow. This Poison-type has the lowest base Speed of any Poison-type Pokemon. Its evolution, Amoongus, gets slightly stronger with high HP, but it looks even uglier, so it offers little gain.

    Grass Type - Bounsweet

Bounsweet looks cute, like many Grass Pokemon that resemble fruit. Cuteness does not mean strength. With low stats and few useful moves, Bounsweet likely will not be a star on most trainer teams. This Pokemon is dim; it does not care if a Bird Pokemon attacks it.

    Normal Type - Delcatty

Delcatty might be a good pet cat choice. It has beautiful, silky fur and is generally chill and friendly. However, if you want a strong team addition, move on. Before Generation VII, Delcatty held the lowest base stat total of any fully-evolved Pokemon. Also, it learns no new moves after evolving, so keep it a Skitty and save the Moon Stone.

    Psychic Type - Abra

Abra evolves into a stronger Pokemon, but Abra is very weak while it is still Abra. Unless you use TMs, Abra only learns Teleport naturally. Teleport helps when you face the hundredth Zubat and need to leave a battle fast, but it does nothing against a trainer. Kabadra and Alakazam are better training choices, but don't expect much from Abra yet.

    Electric Type - Pichu

Pichu is cute. It has the lowest base stats for any electric type. It often accidentally electrifies itself and its trainer. This makes it not very useful. Trainers who forgive its errors and build a bond with the baby Pokémon get a stronger Pikachu. This path is not simple.

    Fairy Type - Wigglytuff

Wigglytuff's only strong stat is its HP, which starts at 140. All other stats are very low. It is weak. Its design is lazy; it resembles Jigglypuff but is twice as long and half as cute.

    Ghost Type - Shedinja

Shedinja has only 1 HP. It cannot survive one attack. Its low Speed stat means it rarely attacks first. Any moves it knows are useless. You get a Shedinja uniquely: it appears in your party when Nincada evolves into Ninjask, and you have an open slot and an extra Poké Ball. Interesting mechanics do not equal a strong Pokémon; Shedinja is not strong.

    Dark Type - Mightyena

Mightyena's base stat total is 420. This is a fun number if you like to party. However, this total splits into middling stats that do not stand out. Its move set lacks impact. Its main feature is its willingness to obey strong trainers, which most Pokémon do anyway. If you do not love angry-looking dogs, you can choose better than Mightyena.
