We've all acted out in rage, but some take it too far. Redditors share the worst things they did in anger, from starting a smoking habit to destroying property, and how it still affects them today.

At nineteen, I worked as a summer camp supervisor for counselors. An event was coming up, and I wanted a day off to attend. My boss blocked that, so I called in sick because I was angry.
Knowing I needed a doctor's note, I went to the doctor the next day. My regular doctor was out; a nurse practitioner covered. She did a full exam, poking and prodding my stomach, and asked about pain. I probably acted in a few spots to show sickness. She then suggested the ER because she thought I might have appendicitis—that gets a better doctor's note, right?
I am in the ER; my whole family is there. They are making me drink barium milkshakes for imaging to check for an appendectomy. I must drink four in an hour; this is my last one. The ER doctor arrives and tells me the surgeon will come to talk. Since they will take pictures and everything will be fine, I feel no worry.
The surgeon arrives after I finish my last drink. He sees my pain (I still pretend it). I explain we will take pictures to check if it is real (which will come back negative). He states he does not need the pictures; we should go to surgery now. Ten years later, I have no appendix, and I still have not told my family.

My brother has major anger problems, especially with first-person shooters on Xbox. He threw and ruined five or six Xbox 360 remotes. These cost fifty to sixty dollars each; he buys only genuine items. One night, during intense anger, he almost smashed another remote. His hand went up, ready to hit the floor with maximum force. A quick thought hit him: "Maybe I shouldn't do this. Breaking this remote costs me another sixty dollars." But rage took over. His hand was already up; he smashed the remote onto the couch instead of the floor.
He placed his new iPhone on the couch before gaming. He forgot it there until the remote struck it, causing intense anger. He thought, "I tried not to break my remote! How could fate do this to me!?!" Activating super-rage, he kicked the 50-inch TV hard. His foot went through the screen. He got drunk, woke up to a ruined living room, a shattered iPhone, and a vomit-filled TV (he recalls laughing while throwing up into the TV hole).

My sister and I argued for the first time when we were younger. She was old enough to walk around alone; I was five years older. I don't recall the reason for the fight. Afterward, she returned to our room crying, holding a paper. It showed a picture of us holding hands with the words, "I'm sorry."
I ripped the paper in front of her, threw it down, and left the room.
She likely doesn't remember this, but it still bothers me. We get along as well as siblings can these days. I don't know if she remembers, but I will never forget seeing her cry right in front of me.

He fought drunkenly with his wife, drove away angry, hit a tree, and spent a long time in intensive care. He almost died; his face became permanently disfigured.

From Redditor.u/CMC81:
My older sister teased me badly when I was eight. I stewed on it for an hour. I decided the best revenge was to destroy her favorite blanket, which our mother made by hand (one for each of us, cut from the same fabric). I grabbed the blanket and scissors and cut it to shreds in front of her. She laughed hysterically; that was not what I expected. I looked at the remnants and saw my initials, realizing I had ruined my favorite blanket.

I ate tuna after a bad day. My younger brother kept teasing me about something I don't recall, refusing to stop after I told him several times. Suddenly, I snapped, grabbed my fork, and threw it at him. The fork hit his head. Five seconds later, blood started flowing from his head, getting worse.
Lesson: If you have a bad day, do not take it out on others. Especially your family; they are the only group that truly cares about you...

The car broke down for the twentieth time. I barely got back to the driveway; I had no money for repairs.
He angrily kicked the back of the car, smashing the taillight.
He yelled at his own foolishness and threw the keys far into the trees.
He immediately had to find them because his house keys were also there.

He told a judge, "Whatever, f*ck this court and the city of Richmond."
The consequence was 30 days in jail for contempt of court.

Around age nine, my older sister tormented me. She had a broken leg and used crutches. Walking down stairs, she hit me with a crutch. I had had enough of her. I turned and kicked both crutches halfway down the stairs. She fell down nine stairs and needed the cast for months.

Years ago, I was furious at my roommate for not keeping a secret. So, I punched a framed picture on the wall. Glass cut every knuckle. My thumb got hit worst. Blood took ages to stop, so I bandaged it tight. After three days, red streaks ran up my arm. I showed my dad. He took me to the hospital. I cut a tendon, and the joint got badly infected. The doctor said I was close to losing my thumb. After surgery, I stayed five days in the hospital with an IV. The morphine helped.

From Redditoru/megamarines:
He punched a cop in the nose and broke it. This happened by instinct after a terrible day and a creepy guy followed me for four blocks. I thought the creeper was the cop when I felt a heavy hand on my shoulder and hit him. The cop fell down, and his partner pulled his arm, yelling for me to put my hands up. I had to explain the mistake. It worked out, but I went to the police station to tell my story. The cop almost asked if I saw my wallet falling out of my pocket. The cop ended with a broken nose, saying it was fine if I bought him the burgers he was going to get. His grin was great.
He ended up buying burgers for the whole department. That cost a lot...
I was lucky. This happened when I was 18; I am 21 now. I am white. For a broke college student, $250 for burgers is steep. I am happy it ended well. My parents do not know and probably never will.
