Pietro Maximoff Has Done Way More Harm To The Marvel Universe Than Wanda

Describing Pietro Maximoff as a hero who broke bad misses the point. He began his Marvel Comics career as a real supervillain. Pietro and his twin sister Wanda debuted in 1964's X-Men #4.X-Men#4. Pietro Maximoff joined the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants as a card-carrying member. This organization was led by Magneto, a man later shown to be Pietro's father, and later revealed to be something else.notbe their father.

Magneto gave Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch their costumes and codenames. Coercion played a role in their recruitment, but Pietro seemed to enjoy the "evil mutant" life early on, gleefully fighting Cyclops and the X-Men with less worry than his sister.

Magneto got beaten by an Elder of the Universe.Elder of the UniversePietro and Wanda quit the Brotherhood, aiming for better things.

Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch found a new home and a chance to redeem themselves with the Avengers. They joined ex-crook Hawkeye as "Cap’s Kooky Quartet" after every founding Avenger retired simultaneously. The public accepted Pietro and Wanda Maximoff’s villainous past, but many still held anti-mutant prejudice, which constantly annoyed Pietro despite the Avengers’ wins and awards.

Magneto returned after a short trip in space. Pietro pretended to join him as an Avengers double-agent, then betrayed the Avengers by rejoining the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants for real, taking his sister with him. The new Brotherhood fought a historic team-up between the Avengers and X-Men and failed, causing Pietro and Wanda to shamefully try to rejoin Earth's Mightiest Heroes months later.

Quicksilver handled his second Avengers stint easier than the first. He took part in several world-saving missions and even found love with Inhuman royal Crystal Amaquelin.Crystal Amaquelin, whom he married and fathered a daughter with. Pietro Maximoff soon proved an inattentive and negligent husband. Crystal had an affair with an ordinary human, sending Quicksilver back to supervillainy.

Pietro’s rage made him attack the Inhuman royal family and his Avengers teammates, several of whom suggested he reconcile with Crystal. Quicksilver then framed the entire Avengers roster for treason. This led the team to be hunted by the US government for a time before he vanished into the unknown.

Some, but not all, of Quicksilver’s sudden turn to betrayal and madness stemmed from the schemes of Maximus Boltagon.Maximus BoltagonPietro’s actions remained villainous afterward. However, these actions suggest he did not need that much push.

Pietro Maximoff developed a fixation on his former Avengers teammates. He focused all his effort on dismantling the entire organization. This led him to join the Zodiac.ZodiacZodiac, a cartel that plagued Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. for decades, but which later became a series of Life Model Decoys.

Quicksilver led his robotic friends in a random attack on Avengers HQ. His astrologically themed allies failed against his old squad. Pietro sped away before capture, but he still harassed Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Pietro Maximoff’s anti-Avenger campaign targeted the West Coast Avengers. The Scarlet Witch and Vision recently started associating with the splinter group. Quicksilver helped groups with villainous aims, including Soviet agents in the People’s Defense Force, infiltrate and bomb the West Coast Avengers.Pietro Maximoff helped the People’s Defense Force infiltrate the West Coast Avengers to reach his sister. This culminated in the team’s capture and Pietro’s appearance as the scheme's puppet master.

Pietro ranted at his sister and her new teammates, clearly struggling mentally, wanting to replace Magneto as “King of the Evil Mutants!”. The West Coast Avengers freed themselves. Months later, Quicksilver joined the team, claiming Maximus the Mad influenced him during his villainous time.

Pietro would make such claims about his misdeeds again.

After his mental manipulation excuse was accepted and forgiven, Pietro Maximoff returned to superhero work. He worked with the West Coast Avengers, regular Avengers, X-Factor, and Knights of Wundagore. Wanda stayed with the Avengers.

After learning she gave birth to non-existent children, they were reabsorbed by the devil, and Agatha Harkness wiped her memory of the event, the Scarlet Witch lost control. Wanda lashed out at her Avengers teammates, killing several. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes called a meeting to decide their next move.

Quicksilver heard the meeting and saw executing Wanda as an option. Desperate, he rushed to his sister. He convinced her to use her full power, rewriting reality to build a new world where their family ruled all.Pietro convinced a distressed Wanda to change reality so their family could rule the world.

Marvel’s heroes need to restore order. Pietro’s actions here will take over ten years to fully unfold.

No one carried more blame for the House of M.Pietro broke his ex-wife and daughter’s Inhuman culture traditions by drinking Terrigen Mist to regain his powers.Pietro Maximoff caused more damage to the Marvel Universe than Wanda. Few paid a high price for this debacle. Magneto viciously beat him in the alternate reality. After things normalized, Quicksilver became one of many mutants depowered by his sister's infamous “No more mutants” spell.

Pietro refused to accept a life without super speed. His need to regain his powers drove him to Attilan, the Inhuman capital. There, he found his ex-wife and daughter, and the Terrigen Mist.Terrigen Mist. The Terrigen Mist acts as the catalyst for Inhumans’ traditional transformations.

Terrigenesis requires Inhuman genes; only those possess them can safely undergo it. Inhuman culture holds this process sacred. When King Black Bolt denied Pietro’s request to be an exception, Pietro entered the ceremonial well. He bathed in the mist. Pietro restored a damaged version of his powers, one resembling time travel more than super speed, but this cost him serious mental health.

After Terrigenesis and gaining time-travel, Pietro Maximoff became obsessed with repowering all the mutants his sister depowered. Driven by a savior complex, Quicksilver partnered with multiple time-strewn versions of himself to seize all Inhumans’ Terrigen Crystals.Terrigen Crystals.Pietro Maximoff manipulated his daughter to take Terrigen Crystals and got rid of an innocent Inhuman.

Pietro’s scheme with the Terrigen Crystals involved killing an innocent Inhuman guard. He did this with little regret. His escape plan also meant manipulating his daughter.Luna.Pietro planned for Luna to use her friendship with Lockjaw, the teleporting bulldog. This was not the worst parental evil Pietro had conceived.

Pietro used Terrigen on his daughter without her permission, causing terrifying results.

Luna told Pietro she did not want to do this. Still, Pietro forced Luna to drink the Terrigen Mist against her will, starting Terrigenesis. When her powers appeared, Luna gained the terrifying ability to see, control, and remove others' emotions. The first thing she saw with this new view was the dark hatred and rage boiling inside her father. Luckily, Luna would soon be back in her mother’s care.

Pietro Maximoff sought to fix the damage his sister caused. He began traveling the world with Terrigen Crystals, offering to restore powers to any mutants who lost theirs in the Decimation.Decimation.He went to Genosha, the former mutant nation, to offer his estranged father, Magneto, the same offer, but he beat him badly after a word fight.

Magneto had good reason to dislike Quicksilver. The bootleg Terrigenesis treatment he offered countless depowered mutants was horribly flawed. Some saw only temporary effects; many developed a Terrigen dependency. Others, the process proved fatal—explosively so—but Pietro did not seem to care.

Pietro became hooked on Terrigenesis. He snuck into the Terrigen Well again and bathed in the mist for seven days. Terrigen Crystals embedded themselves in his body. This boosted his time-travel powers and seemed to fully restore his super speed, but it brought greater madness.

Quicksilver returned to his terrorist roots when he joined X-Cell.X-Cell.X-Cell formed because they believed the US government secretly depowered mutants. Quicksilver helped them commit terror acts, even though he knew he was mostly responsible for the Decimation. The Decimation.

When Layla Miller, a young, all-knowing mutant, revealed Pietro’s involvement to X-Cell, Pietro tried to kill her. X-Cell stopped him. Rictor used his earthbending powers to blast the Terrigen Crystals out of Pietro’s body, ending his time-traveling problems permanently.

Soon after, a wandering Pietro was arrested for vagrancy and jailed.

In prison, Quicksilver found his super speed fully restored by the Terrigen Mist experiments. He did not feel the need to use it. Then, he saw someone trying to kill him through his window. He broke out to stop it. With a new heroic goal, Pietro Maximoff rejoined the Knights of Wundagore and committed to fixing his image. Then, the eldritch entity Chthon possessed him.Chthon.Chthon turned Quicksilver into a vessel of demonic evil.

Chthon used Quicksilver to attack the new Mighty Avengers. They freed him from possession and sent Chthon back to the Other-Realm. Pietro first refused an invitation to join the Mighty Avengers. Then, Pietro learned his sister joined the team and accepted. This Scarlet Witch was Loki in disguise.

Quicksilver joined the Mighty Avengers to fix his image. He did not use a patient approach. Following the Skrulls' Secret Invasion, Quicksilver acted. The Secret Invasion, where alien shapeshifters replaced heroes and villains for months—even years—Pietro Maximoff saw a chance for a fresh start he could not ignore.Several heroes and villains replaced Earth's population for months, even years, with alien shapeshifters. Pietro Maximoff saw a chance for a fresh start. He could not pass up this opportunity.

Pietro told a reporter he was replaced by Skrulls. He claimed all his recent actions—causing theHouse of M.An alien impostor committed the swiping of the Terrigen Crystals and playing doctor of death to countless depowered mutants. The public believed this, and Quicksilver returned as a beloved Avenger, though with a guilty conscience.

Serval Industries hired a superhero team called X-Factor.Lorna Dane joined X-Factor to spy on her sister Polaris's ex.Lorna Dane, the mutant known as Polaris and Magneto's daughter. Pietro Maximoff thought Magneto was his father, so joining X-Factor seemed like support for his half-sister, but it was not.

Alex Summers, Lorna’s ex, asked Quicksilver to join X-Factor to spy on Lorna. Alex’s suspicion about Serval Industries' evil plans proved correct, but spying on his sister for her ex still feels creepy, especially after Pietro’s image cleanup.

Aaron-Taylor Johnson and Evan Peters portray Pietro Maximoff bubbly, but the comic book character remains a surly jerk, even without supervillainy. Pietro admitted he hates almost everyone in the Marvel Universe.

Pietro described his feelings to a psychiatrist during a major issue ofHe once admitted he hated everyone in the Marvel Universe.Pietro uses the metaphor of being stuck behind an idiot in a line. His super speed makes him see the world moving slowly, constantly inconveniencing him. Everyone moves like a snail, and Pietro always waits for his strongest allies to catch up; he is not patient.

Pietro is rude to nearly everyone except Wanda, even without Maximus the Mad, the Terrigen Crystals, or an impending divorce. His rude attitude might seem small compared to his terrible acts, but it causes constant hurt feelings in the Marvel Universe.
