From Goodreads userRachel:
The biggest plot hole inTwilightThe entire second book of *Twilight* seems based on one Cullen family member going crazy when Bella gets a paper cut. This vampire attends school daily, full of kids with nosebleeds, paper cuts, scraped knees, and girls on their cycle. Jasper stayed fine while Bella bled out during her encounter with James.

In theTwilightillustrated guide, which is an official book explaining everything about theTwilight SagaThe Twilight Saga books (not movies) have a section for Stephanie Meyer answering fan questions. A question sparking the debate was: 'When Bella gets her monthly period, why doesn't Edward want to drink her blood?' Stephanie Meyer responds, 'Well, he’s a gentleman, yadda yadda.'
So here is the plot hole.
InBreaking Dawn, the final book, Bella and Edward have sex and she gets pregnant. Vampire women cannot get pregnant in the series because their eggs are dead. Bella is human and gets pregnant by Edward; how does that work?
What about Edward's sperm?
Edward 'died' from the Spanish flu. How did he get her pregnant? Has his sperm been alive this whole time? Should it be fossilized by now?

From Goodreads userbria:
People point out the plot hole that Alice should have seen Bella meet James on the phone. Bella first talks to Alice in the room, then moves to her separate room. Alice, a vampire with super hearing, cannot hear Bella on the phone in the same room? I do not believe that for a second. In the baseball scene, Esme calls a play, and Edward, standing football fields away, hears her speaking at a normal volume.

From Quora userRick Rhay:
Harry and HermioneHarry and Hermione (and Ron too, but mostly Hermione) spent weeks searching for magic to let Harry stay underwater in the Black Lake for an hour. They searched everywhere, finding nothing helpful.
On the day of the challenge, Fleur and Cedric used the Bubble-head charm easily. They are better wizards than Harry. Perhaps the spell is in an old, forgotten book. Or maybe it is a tricky spell a fourth-year could not cast... until the next year.
InOrder of the PhoenixStudents cast Bubble-head charms to walk through Hogwarts hallways, so many stink-bombs are let off. Apparently, this is not that hard.
Hermione Granger, the brightest witch and top researcher, cannot find the Bubble-head charm. This simple magic seems impossible for her.

From Quora userSagnik Guha:
The worst plot hole in the Harry Potter universe involves Secret Keepers.Harry PotterSecret Keepers.
A Secret Keeper embodies a secret. A major Secret Keeper action involves the murder ofJames and Lily PotterVoldemort missed James and Lily because they used the Fidelus Charm, protecting their location. They made Peter Pettigrew their Secret Keeper. Pettigrew betrayed them to Voldemort, causing James and Lily's deaths.
Several questions arise here.
Why could James and Lily not have made themselves Secret Keepers? Later, Bill (Weasley) became a Secret Keeper for Shell Cottage, and Arthur became a Secret Keeper for Aunt Muriel’s place. Why couldn't James or Lily have been their own Secret Keepers?
If James and Lily Potter could not be Secret Keepers, why did they pick Peter with that info? Why not Sirius or Remus? James was closer to Sirius than Peter. The explanation stated everyone would suspect Sirius, target him, and torture him for the secret. Rowling wrote in Book 3 that the secret cannot be forced or tortured from a Secret Keeper who does not want to give it up; it must be given voluntarily.
If that is true, why pick Peter over Sirius or Remus, whom they trusted more than Peter? Sirius would have been safer. Or if not someone in their friend group, why not a powerful witch like Minerva?
If Dumbledore narrowed the prophecy boys to Harry and Neville, why not hide both parents and make himself their Secret Keeper? That would have stopped Voldemort's plans, right? No?
James and Lily’s deaths start this story. This strange split appears in the events surrounding their deaths.

BiggestHarry Potterplot hole? The whole 'magical contract' nonsense with the Goblet of FireGoblet of FireBarty Senior calls it a binding magical contract. Who actually stands for the Goblet in a magical court of law? Professors and Ministry officials surely knew something was wrong. The Goblet accepted a fourth student by trickery, since it already picked Cedric Diggory for Hogwarts. Harry would need to invent another school for his name and get an older student to put his name in. Fraud doesn't break a magical contract? Nonsense. The Wizarding World should have ended ages ago with rules like that.

TheHarry PotterThe plot hole that bothers me most involves Mad-eye Moody seeing Harry through his invisibility cloak at a Hogsmeade pub in their fourth year. Later, Harry’s cloak is shown to be one of thethree Deathly HallowsWouldn’t the cloak make Harry completely invisible from all magic?

The fear landscape forces Dauntless to face individual fears. How can Tris's landscape omit facing being caught as a Divergent? That is a huge, important fear for her. She knows Divergents are hunted. She knows Erudite plot a war. Shouldn't her fear landscape show that right away?

I am pretty confused about the time loops inMiss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Time travel is messy as a concept, but this is a clear plot hole.
Miss Peregrine traps the kids in a time loop to keep them safe from a bomb in 1943. If they leave the loop and enter the present, they age fast and die. Staying in the loop stops aging, but they repeat the same day over and over.
I know they stay in the loop because they are safe, but the loop ends. The kids return to 1943 and keep living from that day. Why wouldn't they just do that from the start? Who chooses to stay in the same day forever when they could stop their death and live a full life?

The Maze Trials likely do not happen. Everything about them is unethical. I doubt an experiment that large, like this, would ever get approval. Smaller trials might pass without much attention, but building and keeping just one maze, let alone two, plus all related trial stuff, requires massive amounts of people, money, research, and resources. I believe they could never manage it.
I doubt the maze and its trials are necessary. The maze and trials gather 'brain patterns'—reactions to events—from kids immune to the Flare. They use this data to find out what makes them immune and how their brains differ. They aim to build a cure blueprint. I am not a neuroscientist, but easier, cheaper, and fairer methods exist than torturing and killing teens for research.

Redditor u suggested that if everyone doubled or tripled their name count in the jar, the odds of being chosen would stay the same. Everyone would then get 100 times the food. That made no sense to me.

From Quora userPaul Robinson:
The Reaping. Around 20,000 people populate each district. Ten to twenty percent are reaping age; that is probably optimistic. This yields 2,000 to 4,000 people. Average figures show 3.5 'ballots' per person—one for every 12-year-old and seven for 18-year-olds. This totals between 7,000 and 14,000 'ballots'. You need a cement mixer truck to hold that, or even turn it. Yet, they use a glass bowl, no bigger than a goldfish bowl, to pick one. My guess is they collect all the ballots, mix them in a cement truck, and toss some into a bowl for the public reaping.

From Redditoru/ArgieGrit01:
If volunteering works, why don't people use it to cheat and get food? District 12 chooses a guy and a girl to compete early in the year. Then, during the sorting, they volunteer. This lets everyone ask for unlimited food without the risk of selection. Meanwhile, the volunteers can train and eat well all year long.

From Quora userM. Atchley:
One creature could quickly destroy a ladder. An alternative is using their iron tools to chisel handholds directly into the concrete wall. This creates a solid way to climb. If they work in a corner, they can build platforms high above the ground where creatures cannot reach. Building cross-braced platforms in the corners lets them run along the wall tops. They can collect vines to build an elevator system and expand platforms. A counterweight mechanism on the other side lets them move up and down easily on both sides of the wall.
Just use the movie. Pretend they are stuck in a huge maze. Watch them break out when the doors open for no reason. Every film plot has inconsistencies. Analyzing them ends the story with a 'dang, why didn't I think of that' feeling.

In Aunty Em's Emporium, Medusa turns the older woman to stone. She holds Annabeth's wrist, stopping Annabeth from freeing herself. Grover arrives later; Percy keeps Medusa busy and breaks the statue's arm near Annabeth's elbow. Annabeth should have easily pulled the statue's severed arm grip from her wrist. The fingers and thumb were not broken, so she could have freed herself any time.

I read “The Giver” several times. I am stuck on a plot hole the editor missed for some reason.
The book has a strong theme of surveillance. Speakers in every “dwelling” let the Committee listen to family conversations in private homes. The main character’s family also secretly learns the “newchild’s” name, even though they are not allowed to know it.
Why would they call Gabriel by name constantly if they risked being caught saying it?

From Quora userBernie Gilbert:
The size of the Hogwarts castle and its staff always changes!
You never hear of more than five boys and five girls sorted each year. In Harry's Gryffindor year, we only know eight: Ron, Harry, Dean, Seamus, Neville, Parvati, Lavender, and Hermione. I assume two extra girls exist somewhere!
Forty students a year means 280 total. That happens in a massive castle. Everything contradicts itself. They offer mixed lessons; ten per house equals twenty classes, which makes sense... but JK claims it is much bigger.
Only one teacher teaches each subject. If the school day runs nine to five with an hour for lunch, that gives seven one-hour lessons daily, or thirty-five per week. If each teacher handles five year groups split in half, that means two classes a year times five groups equals ten, plus a sixth-year Newt and a seventh-year Newt class. That totals twelve classes per lesson.
Assuming three lessons a week means thirty-six lessons, which exceeds available time! When do teachers plan? Staff need time off, especially if they also head a House. I expect a deputy head should have a fifty percent maximum timetable... so half of thirty-five is about eighteen. But she needs thirty-six to fit three lessons per class. Are the staff overworked, or do they all have time turners?
